My guest today, on the Steve Jobs inspired Join Up Dots free podcast interview is a man who first appeared back on the show on episode 433. On the show we followed his journey from a small boy born with asthma, but instead of his parents giving him medicine when he needed it and keeping him away from sport and exertion, they instead encouraged him at the age of four to go skiing. On the mountain tops, where the air is thinner would seem a strange place to send an asthmatic child, but actually they laid the first dot in his life…the love of doing things differently and a desire for adventure. As he said when asked about his desire to be a true adventurer “The notion of being an adventurer is great, the more adventurers we have in the world, the more nature will be respected. By getting closer to the environment – at 3000 metres watching the sunset, or being underwater with a clownfish, seeing the difference between corals that are alive and corals that are dying, we better understand the world around us. We, as humans, need to touch or see things for ourselves otherwise we can’t fully relate to them. If you don’t see something, you don’t feel it. I think that can be extended to everything. The more people that ride bikes around the world, the more people that climb mountains, the more people that get close to nature in any form, the more advocates we have for conservation.” And now with an additional passion of creating sustainability in mobility, he is travelling the world inspiring everyone he meets to get out there bicycles and pedal happily, with a serious message behind it all. Bicycles are simple, sustainable transportation and an essential element in disaster assistance and poverty relief. They fulfil basic needs by providing access to healthcare, education, and economic development. The mission, to provide access to independence and livelihood through the power of the bike. All interesting stuff I'm sure you'll agree. So of course we have all used bicycles for years as a form of fun and exercise, so why should we have a campaign like this when the world should be saying "Yeah, been doing it for years!" And where does he see this heading for him, into more campaigning and perhaps political aspirations? Well let's find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots with the one and only Mr. Manuel Bustelo Show Highlights During the show we discussed such weighty topics with Manuel Bustelo such as: Why being an adventurer is such an amazing life, although it doesn't remove the financial difficulties that plagues most businesses like you might think How he was inspired to enter into the world of sustainable mobility after seeing the terrible oil spill in the Caribbean, and felt driven to tackle it head on. Why Cities like Amsterdam are taking the lead in sustainability, which proves that it can be done with the right mindset. and lastly…. How to connect with him directly to find out more information regarding this subject and where it can lead.
