Join Up Dots Podcast (Entrepreneurs)

Todays episode of Join Up Dots touches in on a subject that although we talk about it everyday, is somehow difficult to answer.
What Stands Between You And Complete Happiness?

Well lets start with the email that we have received............
Hi David,
Loving the little bonus episodes of Join Up Dots....keep them up.
And of course still do the other ones too!
I was reading an article the other day and the author posed a good question, and as you have asked for listeners to drop you a line if they have questions my question is this....
What do you believe stands between you and complete happiness?

My guest today, on the Steve Jobs inspired Join Up Dots free podcast interview is a lady who has had an amazing journey of self discovery and fulfilment

When she was a small girl, she was in a dark place, and after a failed suicide attempt she realized that she needed serious help.

Feeling rejected and confused about being given up and being adopted, she decided to do self therapy on herself as a 16 year old girl.

By doing the unorthodox shock method of becoming a model.

As she says "It was very painful going for auditions after auditions, alone, as a timid and self conscious teenager. However I was determined to redeem my lost self and forced myself to keep at it."

And that she did.

And that spirit of self improvement has carried her through her life, and now with her own self named company helping others to find their place on earth, and taking that one step further, she is also the fire-starter of For Our Children (FOC) Singapore, an initiative set up to raise funds to build schools in third world countries, helping children gain a better start in life than she was given herself..

It appears that her dots have well and truly joined up and placed her in her sweet-spot.

The place that she born to flourish in.

So did that little girl, who grew up into an empowered woman, ever truly believe that she could banish the darkness and live in world of light and positivity?

And when did the realisation of it was up to her to take control and claim her destiny start to appear in front of her?

Well let's find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots, with the one and only Joy Leng.

My guest today, on the Join Up Dots free podcast interview is a man who quite simply spins so many plates, he better have juggling skills attached to his linked profile.

He is a veteran executive, entrepreneur, consultant, international best-selling author, speaker, life-long learner, and a man who can help any business find exponential growth in their bottom line.

And he does this by teaching the under used methods that most companies and individuals have in their grasp, but fail to use in the way they should.

He is a referral expert and believes that all business can grow more efficiently by using the social proof that referrals from previous customers will give them?

Take the promotional statement and comments, and use these to attract even more business who are attracted by honest appraisals from folk who have been there before.

Now it wasn’t an obvious expertise to gain, as starting his career back in the 80’s, he has moved through a series of positions developing teams, motivating individuals, and working with companies, all the while polishing his skills until he can with complete confidence claim to be a thought leader, and career builder.

And upon reaching this point he has been since been able to specialise, becoming known as the go to referral expert, allowing him to author such game-changing books as The Recognised Authority (2016), Always Positive in Your Business and his big success the international best-seller, The Referral of a lifetime, which is being re-released in over 12 different languages!

So why is that so many people are frightened of asking previous customers for a statement or two to promote their excellent service?

And does he see this changing, with the ever increasing advancements in social media?

My guest on today's episode of the Join Up Dots free podcast interview is a man who has certainly hustled his way to the top.

Since starting his career back in 1996 when he performed the role of Assistant Account Executive for Fleishman-Hillard, it seems to me that this was a guy in a hurry.

A hurry to find his true calling, and in a hurry to then deliver maximum value to the world.

He moved through a couple of positions, and then started his first entrepreneurial venture with a self named PR Consultant company, before returning to the corporate gig and fine tuning his own personal and professional skills.

And it seems to me it was at this part of his career that the dawning realisation of where his life was heading started to take shape

Owning his own destiny, and becoming a business and social media marketing extraordinaire, specialising in teaching others to dream big and learn to overcome obstacles in order to reach their goals.

He is now a public speaker, an author, and a mentor who has helped thousands of business executives and select entrepreneurs take their company growth to the next level through motivation, reassurance, and lessons on how to use social media outlets, strategic planning, and improving communication skills.

Whilst he wouldn't say to anyone that he was a guru, his 20 years of experience would point otherwise.

And after helping major corporate executives, including the man we hear everyday on the show Steve Jobs certainly speaks for itself.

He holds a law degree and a masters degree in communications, has produced dozens of podcasts, has made appearances on multiple television shows, and is a best selling author of a book which has sold over 30,000 copies.

So when did the dots start joining together for him, and the lost soul that most of us experience in our early careers gave way to a laser focused entrepreneur?

And looking back on his life, and through his work with many others, do we make it harder on ourselves than we should, by not truly embracing our key skills?

Well lets find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots with the one and only Mr Jason Treu.

So many people in life, feel that what they do, is what they will do for the rest of their lives.

They go into jobs that might inspire at the beginning, but over time, little by little start to become a drag.

Every minute feels like an hour, everyday feels like a month.

But they put up with it until its time for retirement, when they are free to mow the lawn, walk the dog, and have nice little naps in the afternoon.

Well today's guest joining us on Join Up Dots is a former senior Derby police officer, who since 1985 when he joined the force "saw the darkest side of humanity" as he says, while dealing with horrific murders and acts of violence.

He retired at the rank of Superintendent on New Year's Eve and, just the following day, picked up his first client after taking courses on hypnotherapy and life-coaching skills.

Yes he went through the life coach shool and has come out the other side with his own life coaching business

In just short of a year, he has expanded his fledgling business and now has clients across the globe, who he helps via Skype.

He says "In less than a year I have built up a client base that stretches to Australia, the USA, Europe and the Middle East and I have helped all ranges of people including chocoholics, nail biters and alcoholics.

One of my earliest clients was a man who had suffered with a stutter for more than 30 years.

Through hypnotherapy and life skills I have learned, we stripped back his problem to when he first started stuttering as a ten-year-old and within a short space of time I have helped him stop.

He has since thanked me as it has given him a huge amount of confidence and enabled him to get a promotion at work.

I am loving what I am doing, and my confidence has never been higher."

And this is a key part to what makes a business begin to flourish, its not the skills, its not the global reach, but it is certainly the personal confidence.

The moment you truly begin to believe in yourself is when the world says "Right we think you can handle what we are going to give you, so make this into a success"

So did he struggle with the "Oh god, this is my first client, I'm not ready for this" mentality after quitting the police force?"

And now seeing the future forming in front him, would he have stayed in full-time employment as long if he had the chance to go back and change things?"

Today's guest joining us on the Join Up dots podcast interview is a remarkable lady who has battled so much in her life, not least at a stage when most people are footloose and fancy free.

Yes, back in in 2010, when just a young lady she was diagnosed with a recurrence of malignant melanoma that first appeared back in 2007.

When she got a professional to take a look at a mole that appeared on her right temple it was discovered that she had cancer.

Having 45 lymph nodes removed she hoped that he can nipped it all in the bud, and could look forward to a long and healthy life.

But sometimes life has other plans, and in 2010 she was back under the knife having some bone from her skull and the lower half of her ear removed.

But of course the fascinating thing as we see everyday on the show, is that more often than not the worse times of life can show us the way to a life is really great.

And now she has built a whole business in regards to others to take control of their health as she did when faced with 7 tumors as a college student-athlete.

As she says "With nothing to lose I put my trust in complementary and alternative treatments and has been in remission for 5 years. Since that life-changing experience, I have encouraged and empowered others to do their own research to find their own pathway to healing with courage, faith and perseverance. "

So of course a stupid question in many ways, but is she glad that the issues that she had to deal with first came into her life?

And is life in her view one of taking your own personal responsibility, not just in regards to health, but also in the day to day writing of your own personal story?

Today’s guest entrepreneur joining us on the Steve Jobs inspired powerhouse podcast Join Up Dots, is a man who started his life in the UK and now calls the world his home.

Or at least Portland Oregon, USA is where he lays his head.

Starting his journey in Slough, Berkshire….think Ricky Gervais’s creation David Brent, or Sacha Baron Cohens Ali Gi and you are getting the idea of his roots.

But there is no doubt that unlike the character Brent, who thinks he is a great communicator but often fails miserably with comic effect, our guy has created a very different professional persona for himself.

Instead of tripping over his own tongue, our guys opens his mouth and finds the gold everytime.

He is a born communicator, and loves using the spoken word as a laser targeted weapon towards success.

Although, a friend of his’s 11-year-old son Aaron asked, “What does your Dad do?” Aaron thought for a minute, then said, “He teaches people how not to say ‘um.’”

Which I guess is a simple summary, but nails it too.

In the past 10+ years our guest has coached CEOs, professional athletes, tech startup founders, engineers, creative designers and pretty much everyone in between in what makes a wonderful presentation.

Could this be switching off power-point, and actually talking to people directly?

Or perhaps, embracing the world of storytelling to inspire the attendees listening to you speak?

Well we will find our during the show.

But this former newspaper reporter and columnist, now speaks regularly to groups about how to use clear, concise, compelling language as a strategic weapon when dealing with reporters, employees, sales prospects, shareholders, and consumers.

You use the right words that change your situation, empower you and…well stops the “Umms”

So why did he want to leave this amazing country that we call the UK, and depart the natural oasis of beauty that we call Slough, Berkshire?

And when he is standing up, and presenting, does he think “Man, this is easy, I am so in my sweet-spot” or does he have to work hard for every “Umm and Ahh” he stops in its tracks ?

Well let’s find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots, with the one and only Mr Dave Yewman.

It’s not often that I say, I love today’s guest, but in this case I most certainly do.

I love what she is doing. I love the way she is doing it. And I love that our paths cross more times than anyone else I think I know online today.

Back in 2007, she began her journey to where she is today by working in the position as Field Manager for Clean Water Action, where she directed, managed and trained a staff of up to 25 canvassers. and supervised the office manager in all administrative tasks.

And quite honestly as well as I know her, I can totally see her doing this kind of thing, as she is doing a similar thing today although totally in a different environment.

After that, her organisation skills were taken to the next level, whilst her communication skills went up several notches too, by stepping into one of the hardest environments of all.

Knocking on doors and cold calling, canvassing political opinions and fund raising for the political wannabes campaign.

So you can see that she can talk, can organise data, and likes nothing more than leading a high performing team that delivers big time for her clients.

And now she is the leader of a team of amazing ladies at Interview Connections, the premier agency for booking guests onto podcasts across the world.

She has taken all those dots gained over the last nine years, and created a company that has filled a need for podcasters across the world, which is the way to build huge success.

Podcasters struggle to find guests, she has the connections, put the two together and job done.

But of course there is so much more to it than that.

So when did the idea come to her, and was it an epiphany angels singing moment in her life, or did she just stumble into something?

And how did she feel when competition started springing up online, with others seeing her success and modelling the service that she was providing so successfully?

Well lets find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots with the one and only, Interview Connections legend, Jessica Rhodes.

Todays episode of Join Up Dots brings to you a story of entrepreneurial success and persistence.

Pop star Rick Astley has returned to the top of the UK album chart after a gap of 29 years.

The singer's comeback album, 50, beat new releases by Tom Odell and Paul McCartney to reach number one.

"It's amazing, it's incredible," said Astley. "It's been a very, very, very long time."

The star first found fame in the 1980s as part of the Stock, Aitken, Waterman hit factory - but his new material presents a more mature, soulful sound.

He was engaged in a battle for the number one slot over the last week, changing places with Tom Odell on several occasions. In the end, he outsold the Chichester-born singer by just 3,700 copies.

According to the Official Chart Company, Astley sold more physical CDs, while Odell secured more digital sales and streams.

"I like Tom Odell," Astley said. "I bought his last album, and I'm going to buy this one as well, but I've held off from buying it this week!"

Astley last topped the chart in 1987, three years before Odell was born, with his debut album Never Gonna Give You Up.

The star said he'd enjoyed the support of pop royalty in his quest for the top slot this week.

"Elton John's sent a few texts over the last couple of days and just called me now to celebrate and said 'just make sure you enjoy it.'

"He's one of those people I've always respected... so it was a nice moment to get that congratulations."

If you listen to Join Up Dots on a daily basis then you will hear me wax lyrical when introducing a guest as I certainly like to do my research, but todays show is different.

When my guest connected with us to request a place on the show, he hit me with this little tale and I didn't think i could out do this little lot.

So in his own words "On the day I turned 30 years old I looked around me and I knew things had to change.

I looked up at the barbed wire toped concrete walls of the maximum security prison I had called home for the last 2 years and I wondered where everything had gone so wrong.

Only a few years earlier life had been about fast cars, women and parties. I was born in England but schooled and grew up in Johannesburg in South Africa.

I had a career in television that put me in peoples living rooms on a daily basis. I was a household name and people would ask me for my autograph when they saw me out and about.

The choices I made led me to class A drug addiction and the results pulled the carpet from under my feet. Everything was gone within 3 months and I found myself living as a homeless man in one of the most dangerous cities in the world, Johannesburg.

Drugs lead to crime and crime leads to prison. After 9 months awaiting trail I escaped from prison. Two weeks later I was re-arrested buying drugs on the street. I was sentenced as a security risk prisoner and given 3 years without parol in a maximum security prison.

Today things look very different and I live a happy and peaceful life with my wife Colette and my daughter Kristen.

I run a number of successful online businesses that pay my bills, I have authored a book due for release in June and I am able to enjoy a balance in life through my work as a psychotherapist. "

Wow , what a story, but believe me there is so much more to the guys tale, the we could literally go three or four episodes and still not touch the surface.

So looking back on his life as a famous TV magician, did he find it easier to to get to the top, than he has since getting out of prison and changing direction?

Or was that just the starting point to what he would call his "Sweetspot".....has he now found the path that he would say was truly his to find?

My guest today on the Steve Jobs inspired Join Up Dots entrepreneur podcast interview is a man who has had quite a varied career since starting as a Solutions Specialist for Accenture, before transitioning into a Senior Software Developer a role he fulfilled for over six years.

And it seems to me that he has spent the bulk of his time developing the skills to implement and develop IT systems and platforms, where actually he had a burning desire to develop humans.

And this is the fascinating part of life, and something I talk about often.

That when transitioning to a new life, most of us try to escape for the old one.

But actually most of it isnt too bad, just some of it doesn't fulfill us, or make us believe that we are getting what we should.

But we have skills within those old lives that we can and should be taking with us, to make it easier in the future.

And that is what our guest has done today, as since 2014 he has worked tirelessly to help the world live better lives and develop systems that can make us all dream bigger.

But don't think for a minute that this is a guy who talks the talk, but doesn't have the experience to say "Hey, I've been though some pretty tough times myself, have I told you about overcoming alcohol abuse and the story of my wife's tragic suicide due to bipolar disorder."

So how has he taken this career history and turned it into something profitable, enjoyable and valuable to the world?

And does he feel that we are always on the right path, it just sometimes takes awhile to see how the dots are all joining up ?

Well let's find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots, with the one and only Jason MacKenzie.

Today's guest entrepreneur joining us on the Steve Jobs inspired Join Up Dots podcast is a man who started his career as far away as is possible to where he is today.

Originally from Leeds, England, our guests early passions were rugby and mathematics, and although he was usually one of the smallest players, he loved to lead from the front, surprising his bigger opponents with his technique and tenacity.

Discovering his analytical skills helped other people identify a different and more effective way to do things, and his passion for being part of a winning team, he turned these into a professional purpose.

Now that is a fascinating insight into the psyche of a man who at his heart believed himself.

He believed that with effort, commitment and power of thought he could overcome those individuals perhaps holding themselves back from their true performance.

But what interests me even more is once he started his business career, he took those same athletic characteristics to go for rapid advancement.

And instead of going for the long game, where gradual performance and achievements get recognised by the powers that be, he decided to take on the most difficult challenges available; the tough jobs that no one else wanted to do or that people thought would fail.

He recognized these opportunities as a FAST way to rise through the ranks.

Knowing that nothing succeeds as quickly as success, he believed that triumphing in areas where other people thought it couldn't be done was the best use of his analytical skills and his fierce determination to succeed.

And this approach allowed him to challenge traditional thinking and come up with innovative solutions.

And how with his own consultancy company he is taking these beliefs and sharing them with individuals and companies across the world, to also go for rapid improvements.

So why does he feel that he had this different approach to tackle the hard stuff, instead of going for the easy route like most people?

And does he pull his hair out, at the generation that now feel that you can click a few buttons online and gain the quick route to success?

Todays guests is Mr Michael O'Neal, the podcasting master behind the hit Itunes show "The Solopreneur Hour Podcast". The top ranked business show, or The Solohour as it is known to its friends, teaching online marketing and entrepreneurship skills.

Michael is a man who quite simply without him, then I wouldn't be on the mic today.

So you know where to send all your complaints too.

He is a born entrepreneur with a fascinating story, of successes, setbacks, leaps of faith, and finding his unique path with the guidance of John Lee Dumas and Pat Flynn.

Growing up in Philadelphia, the thought of being the host of his own podcast show was the last thing on his mind. He was a normal type of kid, obsessed with sport, finding trouble at school, and generally being a kid.

But unfortunately that freedom of thought and energy changed when he was moved from his beloved Philly, and taken down to Florida, and it seems to me this was the start of him looking for his path in life.

He didn’t fit in down in the Sunshine State, so as soon as he could, he got himself back up North, and discovered one of the first dots in his life that links him to where he is today…the internet.

He was fascinated by the worldwide web, so developed skills to be a web designer.

And that was his life for fifteen years, until unfortunately his parents both passed away in a very short time, and he found himself sitting with just $14 dollars in his pocket.

He was over 30, with a decision forced upon him. Would he accept the punches that life had dealt him, or would he start fighting back?

And that descision was made and he took the steps that made him “Know too much” and not want to work for anyone else again?

He was going to become a solopreneur and own his own future.

But how did he know he had the skills to be a success in the online arena?

How did he know where his true passions lie?

And does he regret inspiring guys like me to jump into the pool too?

Well lets find out as we bring onto the 100th show to start joining up dots, the man on the mike, the host of the “Solopreneur Hour podcast”, the one and only Mr Michael O’Neal!

Yes hello. How are we all? Can you believe it. Episode 100. We have been building up to this for well, it seems like a hundred episodes and we are finally here.

We have got a man who who quite simply rose to the top and was going to be the only person who would fit the mantle of being my 100th guest.

And I’ve had people banging down the doors. I had Paul McCartney phone up the other day and say I want to be on the show, I’ve heard it’s a big thing and I said to him, “Paul, unless you can get the other four Beatles to join you, it’s not going to happen” We’ve had  David Bowie crying. It’s been pathetic really.

So today’s man has been nailed on to do this today, and I’m absolutely delighted that he’s on the show because quite simply without him I wouldn’t be on the microphone. So you know where to send all your complaints to!

He’s a man with a fascinating story of successes, setbacks leaps and finding his unique voice. Growing up in Philadelphia he was a normal type of kid obsessed with football at school, and generally being a kid. But unfortunately that freedom of thought and energy changed when he was moved from his beloved Philly and taken down to Florida and it seemed to me this to stop him looking for his path in life.

He didn’t fit in down in the sunshine state so soon as he could he got himself back up north and discovered one of the first dots in his life that links him to where he is today the Internet.

He was fascinated by a World Wide Web so develop skills to be a web designer and as he’s known for 15 years until unfortunately his parents both passed away in a very short time and he found himself sitting with just fourteen dollars in his pocket. It was over thirty with a decision forced upon him.

Would you accept the punches that life had dealt him or would he stop fighting back and that decision was made and he took steps that made him know too much and not want to work for anyone else again. He was going to become a solopreneur and own his own future.

But how did he know he had the skills to be a success in the online arena and how did he know where his true passions lie?

And does he regret inspiring guys want me to jump into the pool too. Well let’s find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up thoughts the man on the microphone.

The host of the Solohour podcast, the only Mr. Michael O’Neal.

Well how are you Michael?

Michael O’Neal

Oh here is what I can’t even what is happening. I am so flabbergasted by that intro. OK. Two things.

Number one that was the best intro I’ve ever had. And formerly Chris Cerrone had that that title of the best in show to a show I’ve ever had. But it was one of the best I’ve ever heard for anybody which is why you are so the right person for this job. Well we’re all thankful you have a microphone in front of you David.
Trust me on that. Second thing is I would pay to hear Zombie John Lennon if you could figure out a way to get all four Beatles on the show.
That would be cool.

David Ralph

Well I can do Steve Jobs every day. So I might be able to do them as well.

Michael O’Neal

Ah so dude that was incredible. I am . I am flummoxed. David Ralph I’m so excited to be on David Ralph’s show.

David Ralph – Yeah. Go go and do that because I know you have been doing an action of me on a few shows and we’ll show you a few times night.
Yeah you got a little bumper for me on my show. I have these little things that when people ask you me I have a guest on the show that I have them do a little like Hi this is David Ralph and then I get interested in this opener with Mike O’Neill and your voice is so. What’s the first thing I ever said to you. I said you have the ultimate voice for radio. Didn’t I say that you did.
Absolutely.

David Ralph

I haven’t got the face for television but I’ve got a voice for Radio

Michael O’Neal

Well as long as you’ve got the radio part worked out and you have taken this thing and you’ve run with it my friend. So I’m honored. I’m honored to be at the 100 episode Mark. Thank you. Thank you.

David Ralph

Absolutely. It is an honor to have you here because it is amazing when you start this thing, because you started your show what was it August 2013.

Michael O’Neal

Eleven month ago.

David Ralph

Yeah,11 months ago and now you are rocking and rolling with the best of them you surround yourself with, with the Internet movers and shakers the ziggers and zagers and you know you’re going to be humbled by this. So maybe you won’t. You are an online celebrity of note. When I was saying to people is my show a lot of people sort of touch on the shows of said to me I know who you’re going to have. And I said no you don’t.
And I go Yes I know who you’re going to have and ego going and going to no one. And I when Martin O’Neill and I went oh term term how did I know. Really I know.
Yes yeah I did it because I had pain you know I don’t want to suck up to you Michael but the early days I didn’t know what the hell I was doing.
So I just kept on saying your name over and over again or some kind of benchmark of what I was trying to achieve because you like that you’d come out the gates really and say look like a rocket ship. It’s unbelievable. But you’ve only been around so long because it seems like you’ve been here ever in a day.
Does it seems like that to you?

Michael O’Neal

It is weird. It does feel like it was yesterday that I launched the show. It feels really really recent to me that it happened. So but then at the same time I look at the memories that I’ve had over the last 11 months and all the cool benchmarks and you know different things that have happened and, but it’s packed full of stuff right. So I think if there’s any celebrity it’s sort of a z list celebrity and only at certain conferences. But yeah it’s been it’s been an incredible journey.
I couldn’t be happier with how it’s gone. And I can’t wait to see what happens in the next 365. You know I’m really excited about that.

David Ralph

Is there a plan to the next 365 because you seem to me somebody who is very much stimulated by the now and then. Are you somebody who knows what you’re aiming to achieve?

Michael O’Neal

No I’m a notorious non planner. Much to the chagrin of my girlfriend who is a total planner and if I didn’t have the you know a calendar app on my phone I would be I would be completely floating out there now because I I wake up and I look at I go OK what do I have to do today. And then I see what’s going on for the day. And sometimes that doesn’t work out for me like in a social situation because people actually make plans to go out and do things.
But and I’m not one of them. And all of a sudden it’s Friday I’m like I probably should have planned to do something. Yes I watch movies tonight.
But yeah I I’m in an interesting spot right now because I have had this kind of five year run of as you mentioned in the intro bringing myself in this very circuitous path from $14 and not having a clear direction to now.
When someone says What do you do. I say I’m a podcast host. And that’s a thing like I. That’s what I do.
So I sort of a couple of weeks ago had an occasion to kind of put the cap on that five year journey and now I’m going to be looking ahead but I haven’t quite formulated what that ahead looks like yet.

David Ralph

And how did you do that? How did you put a cap on that. How did you say that is five years, finished boxed up?

Michael O’Neal

Well it was as i say I’m I’m a notorious non-celibrator. I’m a guy that usually gets to an achievement and then continues to go without acknowledging it.
And I have what is probably a weird story that you’re asking for but hey here comes.

So I’ve been a Porsche fan for my whole life.
And you may already know where you’re heading with this but I was a Porsche fan my whole life and I don’t know why particularly. I was I had a Volkswagen in high school and I think that maybe planted to see a little bit and I was a car guy and so you know those Porsche ads from the 80s with like the big fender flares and the big wing.
I think I was attracted to that and I eventually in 2003 I bought my first vintage Porsche so I bought a 1972 11 and it was a piece of crap.
I bought it in New York. I didn’t know better.
I drove across country midway across the USA and midway across the country the engine blew up.
So that’s how badly.
Where were you when this happened. I was in the dead heart middle of Nebraska when it happened in Nebraska I suppose.
You it’s nothing. It is hundreds and millions of acres of wide open like cornfields and nothing else.
I mean we are I was I have a picture of my car sitting looking like it’s a panther wading in the grass.
Waiting to you know to prowl and it’s just sitting there with with like a hundred miles in each direction of grass. There was no middle of nowhere when it happened and I ended up finding a Volkswagen place 60 miles away that towed me in. And the guy dropped the oil pan in the car and just giant chunks of metal came out and I’m like I’m pretty sure that’s not how it’s supposed to be.
So I ended up getting a tow truck driving it from Denver where I was living at the time and picking it up.
Neither here nor there.
So I eventually traded that piece of crap on and got a nicer one. Not when I bought it but in 2005 and I restored this car it took me four years and 2000 hours to restore this car back to better than factory condition when I still have it now.
And as part of the dynamic this one in 1969 9/11 and the 69 through 73 nine elevens are very very sought after. They are the iconic 9/11. So when you would see Steve McQueen and a picture of him in the 60s you know you know in LA MA or something driving a 9/11 he was driving one of these sort of 69 to 73 virgins.
And one of the sponsors of Porsche in the 60s was a company called Hoyer which was tag Hoyer before Tagg was involved in the mid-80s.
So just Hoyer and it’s a guy named Jack Hoyer and he made these beautiful tiny pieces chronographs based on race timers.
So you’d have a co-driver with you as a race car and there was a race in Mexico called the career of PanAmericana and the first Porsche Carrera was named after this particular race.
So Hoyer as a sponsor of Porsche created a watch based on the chronographs that they used for the race cars and they called it the Hoyer Kura.
So this was a very utilitarian type watch you could use it as a race time or you could just click one of the buttons and it had this chronograph on it.
It was beautiful automatic beautiful timepiece.
And as I’ve been going through this journey for five years this has been on my vision board because these are about three grand and above to get one of these watches.
But that was so superfluous for me because I had no i like zero money.
And for me to spend three grand on something as excessive as a watch wasn’t even on my radar.
So about a month and a half ago now I was in this position where I was like this could be the time. And I scoured the world. I ended up buying a 1972 Hoyer Carrera from a guy in France and it came to my house and it was more beautiful in person than I.
I’d never seen one in person is more beautiful than I even thought it could be.
And I remember at the mid midday I’d gone to this little swimming pool by my house I belong to this little pool club which is where I work out and I was swimming in the middle of the day two o’clock in the afternoon like Tony Soprano in the middle of a work day and thinking I just did this like this just happened.
This 5 year journey comes stops right now like this is where my new journey begins.
I’ve gone through this trial by fire. I’ve come out hopefully like a phoenix.
I’m in a position where I can buy this watch now which is insane to think about and I’m peaceful and grateful for the life that I’ve built.
And so that for me was the cap of a five year struggle. I mean a real struggle to get to where I am today.

David Ralph

Mr. O’Neill is a perfect story. It started and it made me think if I’m ever in a pub quiz and a question about Portia comes up you’re my man that does it to Luli you are obsessed by that and you. The amount that you were quoting then.

Michael O’Neal

Ah. I mean I think. I think it’s kind of a lifetime obsession for people that become afflicted by it. In fact there’s a great ad I will send it to you on YouTube and there’s an ad for the new Porsche about the time the new Porsche Carrera ad and it was there it’s a little boy. And he’s a little kid in his classroom and he’s daydreaming and on 9/11 drives by him and you just see him like looking out the window and his pencil drops and you know then he he gets in trouble.
And then he runs to the you know was on his BMX bike to the Porsche dealer after school and and he you know he ends up sitting in this car and the steering wheel is bigger than he is and you see Mike raised his head he’s 12 or something and that he goes to the dealer or the guy goes you have a card and the guy goes yeah here you go and he goes I’ll see in 20 years.
And then there’s this great voice over that says something like there’s a there’s a there’s a particular moment that happens with you know a Porsche fan. There’s that time you want one.
Then there’s the time you get one and for the truly affected afflicted there’s the 20 years in between.
And it just like it gives you the chills and my buddies sent it. I sense my body goes man. Pass the Kleenex.
So I guess there is a real passion there for this.
It’s a very visceral feeling that is so different because of the way they build their cars and because the engines in the rear and it’s a totally different experience than you have with with any other vehicle that yeah there becomes a real passion a real obsession with him.
Did you read that because this shows about joining up dots, but do you remember as a young kid having the same kind of obsessive compulsive in both words and things when when you was a little kid running around the streets of Philly pretending you Rocky did most will keep you alive without paying him for the

Michael O’Neal

No no no. I was a BMX kid. Now I was I was in a suburb. I was the only gentile I was in a super Jewish town north of Philadelphia. And I was a BMX or I rode my BMX bike. I mean I was from 1984 until I mean I was racing bikes from 84 until 2000.

David Ralph

So Rocky wasn’t on your radar at all?

Michael O’Neal

No not at all. Tony Hawk and Dave you know Dave Voelker and Matt Hoffman and you know BMX guys Bob horo. They were all on my radar.
I’ll tell you here’s here’s a little here’s a join up dot that is current. I rode an entire daywith real wow I just blanked on his name. That’s embarrassing really.
I’m killing myself right now this is bad radio.

David Ralph

What  does he look like?

Michael O’Neal

He’s a big famous director now and he will watch films John Malkovich. Being John Malkovich won a friggin Oscar. We’re ready. Come on. With it and it might seem seamless Spike Jones for crying out loud.

David Ralph

Spike Jones

Michael O’Neal

Yeah Spike Jones the director was a dude I rode with at a place called Rockville BMX and we were just BMX or dudes riding around. And then he he became a photographer for one of the BMX magazines and then started doing filming because he did Beastie Boys first video I forget which one and then started doing independent films then did Being John Malkovich and now he is like an international you know massive director like one of the best most well-reputed directors in the world. And it was kind of cool. I mean so he did adaptation he did Being John Malkovich Where the Wild Things Are You know just just done amazing stuff. So the Academy Awards. And so a pretty pretty bad ass. He did her you know the movie Her most recent Yeah that’s Spike Jones.

David Ralph

So is there any similarity between the young kid in Philly and now, because from what I see across the pond and I listen into the conversations that you have with your internet guys and it does seem from this side of the pond that you’ve got a gang of friends and followers and whatever that basically control the Internet. I had Rick Mulready on the show. And I said “Do you ever feel like slipping something into Pat Flynns drink, so that the next morning you turn on your screen and see if there’s a black hole on the Internet because he’s not functioning at this time because it kind of seems not” But he wouldn’t be pushed in to slipping a Mickey into his drink in any shape or form. But you seem a little bit edgy to most of them.

Michael O’Neal

Yeah.

David Ralph

Is that because you’re from Philly. Is it because he’s a very sort of industrial Con. Its a real city you know. Its like a working class city when you’re there.

Michael O’Neal

Yeah I think the the edginess is something that I’m kind of a known for. I don’t know if you curse on your show but I’m kind of a no B.S. kind of guy and I’ve never been one to straddle the fence very very much. And I think what happened with Irwin what happens with a lot of these sort of Internet type celebrities is that they’re so concerned about getting the broadest audience that they sometimes come off as being a little bit milktoast or a little bit vanilla.
And I come from a totally different perspective where when you think about media you think about New York Philadelphia Boston. These are like the media centers of the world.
It’s where you know you go to Boston College that’s one of the broadcasting school that’s where Howard Stern went. That’s where many very famous broadcasters come from those places I went to Temple University which has an incredible media department.
And when you look at the people that are iconic in history they’re not people that are vanilla.
There are people that have strong opinions one way or the other and people either love them or they hate them but they’re definitely them.
So they definitely have a presence. They definitely have a voice that’s unique to them.
And I think I always think it took me a little while to settle into that on my show but it is ultimately as you as I developed the show and I developed my own voice I realized hey I’m not in the interest of pleasing everybody. Like that’s not my job.
My job is to talk from my perspective on certain issues and try to extract really good business advice from people without them or my audience really seeing what I’m doing.
And one of my favorite quotes to that is and you probably heard me say before but which just never let him see your work.
You know that’s from Bill Cosby also from my alma mater Temple University in Philly and that basically means that go through your process ask your questions you know have questions written down but you don’t have to be so blatant about it. You can you can ease through you know great standup comedians do this like Louis C.K. talks you know he’ll be sputtering and angry and going through all this process on stage and you think that that’s just how he is. You laugh at his angry energy but he knows all the beats within that he knows exactly what he’s doing within that realm and that is that is him not letting you see him work on him.

David Ralph

When your on the mike then how much is you now being absolutely authentic and how much is it creating a mood creating an atmosphere on the show.

Michael O’Neal

Well it can’t. Can’t you have both?

David Ralph

Oh I don’t know CAN you?

Michael O’Neal

What are you asking? Are you asking how much is sort of pre-written and how much is off the cuff?

David Ralph

Well on this show for example some of the things I say I only say to get a reaction from the guest. You know do I really mean it kind of. Do I think that they will go against it. Yes. So I will say it. How much do you actually say that you believe 100 percent.

Michael O’Neal

Well first of all you do that because you understand this and you’re a pro. I mean this is a very natural place for you to end up.
So I think that that I do very similar things to you, as you do just because yeah sometimes you want to extract some stuff from a guest that is being difficult.
But yeah I mean I’m pretty authentic dude. I there’s not a lot there’s people that have met me in real life and go Oh you’re exactly like you are on the show. Yeah Im exactly like I’m in the show. I turn it on and I talk so I don’t have this, I’m not affected in any way.
I just go.

David Ralph

So you’re not like you haven’t got a human graphic equalizer when you press record you just kind of increase certain parts of your personality.

Michael O’Neal

Not really. No. This is pretty much how I am. Yeah I’ll speak like I speak. I’m probably slightly dirtier in real life.

David Ralph

Well you don’t know where the words will land do you!

Michael O’Neal

I probably curse a little more which is fine. I’ve done a few podcasts now where I was allowed to do that and it did make it really nice.

David Ralph

Are you in the same situation as me because I used to listen to your show all the time and it was a staple diet during my transition at that time and now I’m doing this. One of the failures of me is that I don’t get time to listen to other people’s shows. I listen to your one  the other day because I just suddenly realized I had a gap but you almost become an island of your own success where before I used to listen to shows and I used to think oh I’ll take a bit of it and I’ll take a bit of it and become like a magpie. And now I don’t know what vibe is out there and I don’t know whether I’m being edgy or whatever. It just seems to be you. Speaking to the mic and I throw it out to the world and hopefully it goes well. It seems to be a fault of mine, and so do you have the same thing?

Michael O’Neal

No I’m exactly the same way. I’d say partially by choice and partially by by time. So when I when I do have time to consume podcasts I don’t tend to go business. I tend to go comedy. And lately I tend to go NFL football. I listen to podcasts related to that because I want to be able to clock out a little bit when I do want real inspiration. I’ve been listening to here’s the thing with Alec Baldwin it’s WNYC. I’ve not heard a better intro or production or interview style than that show. It’s his in his intros are nothing short of brilliant. I mean they’re amazing how he brings a guest on an and then how he interviews and his questions are very in-depth and he’s such a pro that it makes it really easy for me to like look at that bar and go OK that’s where the soul open for hours going.
That’s what I do. I actually honestly David I find now the more that I get into this show the more I almost can’t stand other people’s shows like there so few that can capture my attention and that I feel like are being done well even with really good friends of mine that do shows I just go and that is almost unlistenable. You know it’s so. So I just don’t I definitely look far above the kind of Internet Marketing slash business world for inspiration on how I want to run mine.

David Ralph

because the only two that I listen to now is yours.
And I went on started. I wanted to listen to every single one. And but the nerdiest and there the only two reasons.
Yeah great and Nerdist is good for a number of reasons.

David Ralph

Yeah I just like the way it kind of flows and you don’t even know it started and it just kind of teases right.

Michael O’Neal

That’s right. Yeah they just start it. We kind of did that today didn’t we.

David Ralph

Yeah absolutely and that was the good stuff.

Michael O’Neal

And we talked for a while before we started recording. You know me I mean it just felt like yeah hit it. Go for it. We’ll start like Nerdist. But yeah no I think that there’s a sense there’s such a glutton of new shows out there and I don’t. but if I’m being opinionated I don’t. There’s a lot of places where people are learning quote on quote how to podcast. And I think they’re feeding them crap information. So often a big problem.

David Ralph

And I know he’s a mate of yours and I wish him all the success in the world, but the problem is so many people are trying to duplicate John Lee Dumas and that’s not right. He came first and he created the structure of his show, and whether you like that format or whatever that is he’s and he’s made in his own by being him.
And I hear these shows and after about three minutes I think oh my god it’s the same thing again. Now I will listen to your shows and I will go all the way through. But people miss a trick don’t lay up coming back to my all the time is finding your authentic self playing to your streams.
And and if you do that you create a bigger loyalty. You know if you are totally yourself people either hate you or like you but the ones that like you will love you. And that’s where these people are missing out because they’re not even being authentic to themselves they’re just kind of a middle ground.

Michael O’Neal

Yeah. And John would tell you and I’ve said this a million times in front of him and said do you the success of your show or his show has nothing to do with his format. And it has nothing do with him as a podcast for that all.
It has everything to do with the fact that he has a financial background writes great marketing copy and has a schedule and a rigidity too. He has a military rigidity because he was in the military to his to his business.
And unless you come with that exact kind of background you will not have success in that way.
People think that because of the way he does his show because it’s structured and because he has these set questions and does it seven days a week that that’s why he’s successful and is completely irrelevant to that.
So the problem is is like you said so many people listen to that or they go to podcasters paradise and they learn a certain way to do things. And I’m almost diametrically opposed to every single thing that they’re learning.
So it’s like it’s like man I it’s it’s frustrating for me in that way.
And I shouldn’t say that like I want to rephrase that I’m not time actually oppose everything they’re learning what I’m what I’m worried about is that the things that I think make podcasting successful aren’t emphasized in a lot of training courses.
And like you just said finding your own voice is a number one you have to be successful.
You have to find your own voice and you have to have a great brand and it’s not something that people speak about a lot. Like I took a lot of cliff Ravenscroft stuff. I’ve taken all the stuff.
I’ve seen a number of course is out there a lot of them don’t pay a lot of attention to that piece and I worry that with this next phase of podcasting and what’s you know since everyone’s starting a show they’re going to find it a lot harder to sustain it unless they’ve found their own voice on their voice.
And and it’s within this brand that they’ve really created. So we’ll see.
But that’s the jury’s out on that.

David Ralph

Did you really have to love doing this because I’m going to play a speech in my Jim Carrey and I’m actually I’m going to play now and we’re going to talk afterwards. This is Jim Carrey.

Jim Carrey Sound Clip

My father could have been a great comedian but he didn’t believe that that was possible for him. And so he made a conservative choice.
Instead he got a safe job as an accountant. And when I was 12 years old. He was let go from that safe job. And our family had to do whatever we could to survive. I learned many great lessons from my father. Not the least of which was that you can fail at what you don’t want. So you might as well take a chance on doing what you love.

David Ralph

Is that the true message that we should be getting across?

Michael O’Neal

Yes it is unfortunately the connecting of the dots joining of those two dots which is I found this thing that I love and now I have to figure out how to get paid for it is difficult.
That’s a difficult journey. And that’s my that was my five year journey. Right. First not even knowing what it was that I loved. I had no idea I was going to podcast five years ago but I had an initial foray into public speaking. I started teaching social media on stage and I ended up traveling and going to 17 cities teaching people how to use social media to grow their business and I found it very like oh this is something I could be good at.
And then that morphed into doing back end production on a podcast for a year and a half and just starting to understand the podcasting industry that finally morphed into me starting my own show and here we are. But it was a five year journey to find that you know like I had indicators of it and if someone in 2009 it said hey do you want to get. You want to make six figures and be a public speaker.
I be like totally that be great. But at the time I had nothing to speak about.
And now I do.
So it’s kind of a I I do feel like you have to find something that will and you’ve probably seen this in your life with your show something that will make you walk into that studio and record an episode even if you’re exhausted or not in the mood or whatever because you truly love it and you’re excited about it. Oh yesterday.
That’s how I am.
Yeah I’ve had times when I’ve recorded 12 shows back to back and now I’ve.
Why just because I knew I was going to do it seven days a week show and that was the hardest time I had.
I had no internet for two weeks he just crashed on me and I suddenly panic but I didn’t have enough to cover. And I was going away as well.
So yes seven days a week he goes out and I needed the boke. And so I did it and I started off at six o’clock in the morning and I just went through through move through and I edited and I did everything in the gap between when I recorded the next one and he just went seamlessly.
And when I pressed record yes I was on I was on. Once I was off it was just like I was you know on drugs or something I was just slump too much.
But it wasn’t until the very last ones that I realized actually about that passion that you’re talking about the ability to actually do it when you’re tired. I’ve gone past by and I was actually feeling ill. And I remember doing this show and the sweat was pouring off me and I listened back to and it doesn’t sound like it but I realized brain actually no you’ve got to look up to yourself as much as you do actually doing something.
Yeah I’m very committed to that.
DAVID It’s I have I have three sort of pillars if you will that I do I think make a good soul a partner or a successful soul a partner. And there’s there’s time freedom there’s financial freedom and there’s location freedom.
And so the first one is really easy time freedom simple you walk into your boss’s office tell him to go screw himself and then you have time freedom. There you go.
Location freedom. You can pretty much just get in a car and go somewhere that we have that kind of freedom in the U.K. and in the United States.
Yeah there’s some complications in between. But technically you can just go do that.
It’s the financial freedom part. That’s the tricky part of the three.
That is a little harder.
But I find that I’m so unwilling to compromise my time freedom.
I’ve turned down so many more so much more money because it would compromise my time freedom like I could have a lot more coaching clients and a lot more people in my my group coaching. It’s called Solo lab.
But with that I would have to commit another couple of days to taking care of them and I’d I’m willing to do that at all. Like i will i love my life the way it is right now and I can be comfortable financially I can go do fun things. And I don’t have to compromise that.
And you know hopefully I can continue to grow and continue to you know make more money maybe have more speaking gigs things like that but I don’t intend on working any harder.
I just want to you know work smarter maybe try to over deliver a little more to my audience and that’s what I’m looking for.
Well was sensible and that’s exactly what I want to do as well because I hate these people and it’s almost like a badge of honor. But I’ve quit in nine to five job. And then you go yes I’m an online marketing do I do this I’m a diva and I cook my time and I’m doing 80 hours a week and I think right. Right. What the hell do you do that. Why don’t you just do two days hard work and have the rest of the time of it.
It seems stupid that I say that.
That’s right. And it’s. It does. It is counter intuitive. The thing is when my parents passed away you mentioned this in the intro when they did that. My perspective on time completely shifted and I just I. Life’s too short. So I am very much a person that says both.
When someone says would you like this or this. I say both.
When I get an opportunity to do something I say yes. Win you know and I just do it like it’s a thing that I have committed to and not mentally like I don’t just go yeah this is what I’m going to do from now on. I just do it now I just say yeah let’s do that. That sounds fun. Let’s just go for that. I’m going to go on a hike. Yeah. Great book a ticket. You know and we just do it.
And I found that that has served me really well because when I do that and I put that as a priority in my life then the the stuff that I’m not so thrilled about I still end up having to do it.
It still fills in the blanks but my priority is to really extract the most that I can out of my life and I’ll tell you not a person that does that well I think as John John Lee Dumas he works probably a little more like the person you were just mentioning. He works a lot but he’s also great at saying yes when when something comes across his desk he goes yeah lets do that. And it’s like on the schedule. And I think that’s that’s part of I think what that’s part of success. To me that’s part of what success feels like is being able to do that.
I remember hearing an interview with Billy Joel and the interviewer said to him Billy you’ve sold X squillion albums and singles and you’ve done these tours and you play Madison Square Garden five straight nights. What has success given you. And he just said time and that was it. He can wake up each morning and if he doesn’t want to do something he doesn’t. And that single word resonated with me hugely especially when I was in my 9 to 5 job and I realized then that things were not right. And why should I be doing a nine to five job when there are options I suppose. I began to know too much. And then once you know too much brain you realize you can’t ever go back.

Michael O’Neal

Yeah. It’s really really is a one way street. It also but that carries over as well into my personal life as well. And I think when the there’s ever such a different confidence now just in my life in general and I think Billy Joel would sort sort of anybody that reached a level of success has this this this underlying confidence about them that is very attractive not only to you know the opposite sex but it’s what attracts other successful people to you.
There’s just there’s a subtlety in actions and just how really how you go through life when you’re confident that is very attractive to you know both both people both sexes and that is something that people pick up on pretty easily.
You become a success back humor don’t you.
You know the old Jim rhône thing about you know the average of you know five people to surrender a lot of people I talked to.
Yeah. I mean a crappy job and all these miserable people all the time. How can I surround myself. And one of the things I say to them is you know focus on success because the more success you get and the more competence as you say they end up a successful people get sucked into your world and suddenly you created what he was saying.
It’s not easy to do. But it certainly is a mindset that starts moving in that direction.
That’s right. And you it’s funny you just asked that question of me is how do you now you’re on it you’re on an island so you’re you’re in the UK you’re not.
I’m in San Diego so I get to have a bunch of people around me at all times. I will say though we don’t get together. I mean you know we get together as friends but I’m not in a mastermind with any of these people around me.
We don’t sit there and me out. So you know to answer your question I’m mean answer answered on my show tomorrow.
But you’ve got to join a group you’ve got to join a group mastermind of some sort. And there’s really no other way. If you if you’re not surrounded by those five people that that you feel are motivating you in a way that that is bettering your life and hopefully their lives.
You’ve got to separate from those people and find the people that are doing that and pretty much everyone I know that’s in this you know business Internet Marketing podcasting world has some sort of coaching program.
And my best advice is to get people that you really enjoy like how they speak and like how they deliver and join their group and that’s it.
And you know once you’re a part of that community you’ll be a lot more apt to be motivated you know learn the things you want to learn. It’s part of the reason why I don’t need to listen to podcasts anymore because I have so many people in my group that are doing cool things. I get to learn about all the cool new stuff without having to go listen. They sort of comes to me.
So so do you now feel that you’re ahead of the curve. Because when when you started the show I remember you saying it’s the Wild West and now it seems like every man Dogan whatever has made me a podcast.
So do you think now about you it’s not the Wild West but you actually ahead of the curve.
It’s good. Get a question.
Yes and no I think it’s still the wild west.
I think that people in this environment aren’t necessarily looking in the right direction to advance their business where they should be.
Let me clarify that.
I think inspiration for how someone’s podcast get better gets better doesn’t happen within the new podcasting community.
It happens with old media.
Then you go look at how you all learn how to interview you go study Howard Stern if you want to learn how to produce an an excellent show. You go you know you look at and some an NPR show or something like that like a where a BBC show something that you know pay close attention to how people are introducing guests and what they’re how they do their ads and how they integrate you know clips from this person’s body of work into their intro or into the show itself.
So I think there is really a professional side to this that will ultimately come out.
For me personally what I’ve realized over the last couple of months and this is something that I think you can you can sort of strap on as a badge of honor as well is that I’m a better interviewer than most. Just in general I’m more intuitive and I have more range of knowledge so I can connect those dots. You know I can join those dots.
And that’s what makes for a compelling and entertaining interview no matter who you are it’s the people that have the pre-scripted questions that I think are really going to struggle because that’s that’s very exhausting to an audience.
So on one side I think I’m still really ahead of the curve in that.
I come from this and as do you come from this background this history of paying attention to interviewers and then sort of bringing this natural ability to the microphone that 99 percent of people don’t have.
And that’s the building not only to interview someone in a business sense and extract what they do for a living but actually make an entertaining hour of programming for someone.
And in my opinion they can get the business data from 80000 podcasts that are on iTunes but it’s really hard to get entertainment out of it.
And that’s what I’m trying to bring to the table and I think that’s what you do a really great job bringing to the table as well because because what I’ve realized you know was a complete nobody is basically the very first interview I did was no you weren’t Yes.
Stop it.
Tom Mocha’s was episode your line on the line. Me right now David.
And he was a huge inspiration to me so I wanted him as guest number one. And he was talking to a gentleman called John Lee Dumas and so awful who’s is CHEP never heard of him. And I went over to his show and the very first show I listened to was episode 3 2 2 which was yourself and kidding.
That was I didn’t know that. Yeah that was the very first episode. And the fascinating thing about it was which got me on the show and this is my sort of join up thought was the fact that everything you see in life is normally about benchmarking against success. You see people already Veja and you go I’d like to do that but it worked for him he’s had this skill he’s got that you know he’s a natural that’s for sure.
On that show on 0 5 3 2 2 you hadn’t even lunged and he was saying to you you know when are you going to go and you and I’m going to go on Wednesday or whatever it was.
And I tuned in and I listened or whatever you do you click on it you don’t tune into you. But I heard you speak for the very first time and I found it fascinating because I was seeing but not some bouts of somebody finding their way. And you was saying Yeah and I had 17 downloads and it wasn’t that you were looking at success you were looking at somebody finding their flow finding them. Moving on.
And that’s right. But that’s what really flavored my show was the fact that you were doing something that seemed natural and you were holding your hands up and you going really.
I don’t know if this is going to work but hey if it doesn’t change we’ll move on later on.
And remember you did this show and it was it was some chap I don’t remember who was with them on the on the beach somewhere and calls were whizzing past and your battery ran out half way through. Yes and yes you still put out and I thought that’s interesting because what he’s saying back is not that this show has got to be polished and perfect what he’s saying is is a journey and I’m going to improve from that and that be the last time that my battery runs out halfway through.
That’s right and it was definitely the last time that happened.
Yeah.
Yeah it’s a good way to good insight.
I see.
If I were doing it again yeah I would probably do the same thing again. I was I’ve been always sort of a fan of the let’s just put it out at that at that time.
I was leaning more on my hopeful interview skills than I was like ultimate show quality and since I’d already put out a couple of episodes it wasn’t that bad but I really loved the guys story. So I was like yeah there was Harry. Harry Smith was the guy’s name and. And.
And I thought yeah let me let me throw that on. And why not. What happened. You know and somewhere.
This is what’s so cool about this right.
You heard one single episode I did from Johnny Dumas which was like a random occurrence.
And look how much it’s affected both of us. Yeah. Just that one thing. So if one little episode you put out catches the right person it can literally be life changing.
I will say something.
I want your listeners to go to solo our solo our dotcom and I want you to go back to like three.
I don’t know let’s say pre 70s so anything from episode like I don’t know one until episode 70 and I want you to click on those posts and read how great David’s comments are for the episodes.
They are so insightful and brilliant. And you do such a great job summarizing. I think I even wrote you once and said Do you want to write my show summaries. Remember that you did and it was just that the crux of me doing this and I knew I was just going to stall so cool.
So I am and you still you just did it the other day when you were that episode you listened to. You do such a great job summarizing. You’re going to be such a smash successful podcast. David Yeah I have no doubt whatsoever you are going to I hope you will let us be on your show someday when you do these live broadcasts in front of you know a hundred thousand people at the Wembley Stadium.
Did you know when you start this and I’m really going to open up here so I don’t really have a Chevez. But when you start based you want it to be so good and you want it to be brought in and you kind of.
There were job. You look back on them and you go OK yeah that wasn’t quite where I wanted to be but it was all right.
And then you hit sort milestones and you listened back to some of these shows I don’t know if you listen to yours and I thought oh that was a bit closer to what I had in my head my original vision. And I got to show it E.T. and that’s when I suddenly realize Michael that was the host of a show and it was my responsibility to be the host to even I think he was too grateful for people giving up their time to be on my show.
I it was a complete mind set.
Now I want this to be the biggest show out there. I absolutely do. And it’s all I can focus in on and it’s in many ways it’s killing me or my life is totally out of whack.
But all I want is about is the number one thing upset that on any show because it sounds a bit arrogant really I’m upset. Once we’ve stopped recording them when somebody asked me about it that is where I want to be and I want to be join up not as a brand. Exactly as you say. Right. Because it’s one of those things that you kind of go join up towards. What does it mean. And I’m very aware of if you provide quality and content as quality brand in many ways take care of itself. It’s like we always talk in the early episode the name that was always mentioned was Pat Flynn.
And you know he’s got that classic smart passive income and you forget that’s a premium brand but actually he’s only three words put together and he’s because he’s provided that great content and quality and value.
But it becomes the kind of the trust word where what he’s trying to achieve.
That’s right in he that he can live that now.
But I actually want I want to focus on something you said just before that you will be bigger than him and so will I. And I know I don’t mean that like he doesn’t have the same aspirations as you do.
Right.
And I’m saying in terms of podcasts in terms of like Pat wants to speak I’m not speaking for him here but just knowing what I know about him.
He he is sort of the crash test dummy of internet marketers.
So he does all these really cool things on the web.
I want my show to become about like I want to. I want to be interviewing complete legitimate A-listers you know and finding out about their kind of business and so normal journey. That’s where I will see the show going.
And because of that if when and if I get to that point.
The show the podcast itself will be bigger than all of the internet marketing type podcasts.
Does that make sense. Yeah it’ll be way bigger than that. It’ll be more like Nerdist.
You know Chris Hardwick gets killer guests on his show and that’s why his podcast is you know number one number two number three on iTunes overall.
And so it’s it’s one of those things that that I it’s what I aspire to do as well is to get working within this world like real A-list category of people because I think that they’ll appreciate talking about their journey.
And so that’s where I want to head with that.
Also I was very strategic and I changed direction. I realized that when I started I was just throwing out the net to anyone and anyone would jump on the show. I would have them round about sort of thing once again I thought to myself no I can’t do this because when I was looking at other people’s shows I was thinking Oh I’ve been on my show I’ve been on my show and it was just the sort of hybrid of people doing the rounds.
So I went off in a different direction. So if you listen to episode 88 I had Cathy O’Dowd who was the first woman to hit the summit of Everest from both sides.
I’ve got the first civilian astronaut coming on the show. I’ve got a chap over a few years ago was worldwide news because he sold his life on e-bay and he’s just sold his life to Disney and all that kind of stuff. So I realized I had to change direction to become more unique to be more interested by the stories more. Yes. Extract out of them what I wanted to show to the world and that was my original vision but I couldn’t say Eva until later on in the journey.
Yeah and that’s really what you’ve done. That’s the whole point. That’s why you will be successful because you’ve you’ve done this in a sort of a different way in your life when you look back to sort of the Philadelphia kid and you riding around on your BMX and all that kind of stuff.
Well you just sort of wanting to be the classic sports kid was. If you look back and now we all going to send you back in time soon on the Sermon on the mike.
No I was a show off though.
I think I think I was you know a performer of some sort and the PA is I keep is that makes my colonial who he is to play better racquetball with an audience.
Yes. Every single time.
Yeah I think so. I think there’s that’s there that’s in there. It’s in the DNA for sure. I don’t use that a lot but it’s in the DNA.
I work better in a performance environment which is presumably why I kind of screw myself on the show intentionally.
I don’t I I prepare in a way where I I’ve researched my guest as you have. You know you know and you certainly listen to the show but at times you know a little bit about me and you’re able to then naturally structure questions that that dovetail into my history and that’s what a good interviewer does.
I don’t write a lot of questions out sometimes intentionally and that’s because I there’s something about the performance side.
I realize now that I’m I’m doing this the shows this this month I’ve got over 300000 downloads for the first time and this is a and I realize so there’s people listening and I have to perform. You know what I like it.
It makes me it UPS my game. I’m live on the show.
And I think I do that to myself on purpose because because I work better in that environment a lot maybe underpressure a little.
Well we’re very similar. It’s fascinating. I feel like I’m finding out the real Marcantonio here. Where is the person behind the that the presenter. Because I am somebody who has spent my life doing training courses and presentations and that’s my job.
I’ve never done this kind of thing. It was totally BA and I’m somebody very much likes to be on their own likes no one near them.
And then when I suddenly go ping. That’s it. It’s performance time. And I don’t know if it’s showing off or trying to create a different persona for myself because that’s kind of not naturally me.
But I do have the ability to raise my game and present a different side to myself if you know me deep down you would say to me different people that the people who know me from seeing where I allow them to see me they would say yeah you it’s like I’m on the mike as you are when you normally doing those things because I’m letting them see what they want to see.
Yeah.
Yeah I mean I think there’s there’s an element of that and again I want people to understand this is why we and we talked earlier about sort of what John brought to the table. And I’m you know people look at my show and say it’s it’s been it’s it’s been pretty successful in the first 11 months just overall debt is not that’s not a fluke because I didn’t just start in August of 2013 with kind of media.
You know I’ve been a professional drummer my whole life.
I’ve performed I’ve been on I’ve been a racer I’ve been you know a competitive racquetball player for for many many tournaments for many many years now and before that it was tennis.
So I’ve always been performing in some way or the other.
I I coached for five years on teaching people social media in front of huge audiences.
I’ve played Red Rocks in front of 10000 people like me being on a microphone and being natural at it is not something that happened overnight.
It’s a it’s this is something that you walked in with.
You’ve been training for years before you turned a mike on yourself.
So it’s kind of like Yeah right yeah. You were new to podcasting but not nuda trying to translate a concept from one person to an audience like that’s something you’ve been doing for a long time.
So so that’s I think that it’s a bit of a misnomer within our industry that yeah anybody can you know podcast or anybody can start blah blah blah.
That’s kind of cool I get it. Yes technically you can turn on an app you can go to boss jock on your iPhone and upload it to clips and you’ve got a podcast but can you do it. Well can you do it so that when someone switches from morning radio or Howard Stern or the BBC to your podcast that they don’t notice a huge drop off in quality or you know sound quality interview quality production quality that’s that’s what I try to bring the table and I think you do the same thing.
So is that what you’re saying really and I’m going to play the words of Steve Jobs because he says it very well as well but no experience is wasted. It doesn’t matter what you’ve done in your life you will pull elements and you extract what you need to create your new path.
Out 100 percent. Absolutely yes. Everything you’ve done up until this point is does training for you for this next phase.
When I have people on their show and we have these episodes called Find your swing I want to find out everything that person has done because it find your swing is like well what do I do. Like what am I naturally gifted at how can I make money off of something that I really enjoy that I’m passionate about that’s what finding your swing is.
And it’s I want to find out like what you did when you were a kid. Were you an athlete did you or you or you a professional knitter you like to knit hats. You know like what is it what do you do. And when people can start accessing those things that they’ve done their whole lives they’re really gifted and I like to find ways that we can use those talents in whatever their next business endeavor is.
We call about connecting our past to build our future and here. And one of the names as come out is if you really want to know your passion really want to know what you’re naturally good at. Don’t think about what you were doing in adult life because very much you would have been taking a responsibility for a wage or whatever.
Look at what you was doing as a kid when you weren’t being paid for it.
And if you was a drama when you was a kid and you loved doing it then try and look at something that would do that. And he says that exactly the same way as you do it and you’ll find your swing episodes.
That’s right. And I and I love those. Again that’s another instance where we totally put ourselves on the spot. I have a co-host. Her name is Dawn Mars. For those episodes and we never read the questions first. Like I only you know sometimes I glance at them to see just a copy and paste them into my Evernote when we’re doing the show. But we were reading them and answering them live and which again has another element of pressure that we’ve got to come up with an answer and these people are literally like I’ve had people that have taken what we’ve said on the show. They’ve made a business from it like the next day they’ve gone and done it.
So it’s it can be a little daunting. And I was going to ask you earlier you know your show’s growing now and this this will be big your show will have a huge audience at some point and I’ve asked this with other people that are in the space.
Have you yet felt this sense of responsibility that comes with that the fact that you’re speaking into a microphone and someone’s actually listening to what you’re saying.
Yeah. With power comes great responsibility. And it’s funny the very first show I released I got two e-mails and they were from people I’d never met and they were saying thank you so much for putting the show out there and I thought oh my God.
And from that moment of being very aware of what I’m saying or being very aware of I don’t know where my words are landing. And of also having a conversation with my wife this afternoon saying if this really takes on.
Just as I want it to really take on I’m a little bit scared but I haven’t got the value to provide the audience but I won’t and I don’t know why that is because you know success is everything you want. But I suddenly felt a pressure because I can see the downloads increasing increasing increasing. I can see the work coming towards me and I’m doing this seven days old on my own. There’s not one person that helps me and I’m also balancing other responsibilities as well. So this isn’t my only so restrained I suddenly freaked this afternoon for the exact reason that you said oh my god this is power this is responsibility. I’ve got to be careful with it.
Yeah. Have you also found it. I agree. I felt that in some I haven’t had yet. Hey buddy come back to me I’m like you ruin my life but I’ll show it. That’s going to have to happen right.
Someone will listen to something you’ve said or I’ve said and they’re going to do it and it’s not going to work for them and we won’t have the details but they’re going to say I listened to you when you were in my life. That’s going to happen.
There’s no way it that doesn’t happen. When you’re when you grow this thing to where it can go there’s no way that doesn’t happen.
Well think shows a slightly different note because you teach nuts and bolts. I think with my show I talk about hope and I told you why leap of both.
Yeah I really think I teach nuts and bolts because that’s that’s I feel like there’s a lot of shows that do that specifically.
And I I feel like I teach more of the journey and then the nuts and bolts sort of fall from there.
Well I think that’s the same thing. I think what you do you you talk about the journey you get the cogs working in your own brain and brain when you throw out the nuts and bolts which you probably don’t think have got value as such.
You’re already using those cokes and you’re thinking yeah I can use that yeah I can tell you that that’s exactly what happened with me.
You know I couldn’t see how to do this because I’ve never done this. But just by you having conversations with people you take the element and you take the element and you take that element and what do you do. He’s been up to you as an individual to put it together.
Yeah I actually find myself pretty.
I can be very socially awkward at the beginning and I sometimes I’ve actually accessed my I’ve switched into interview mode when I’m meeting someone in real life.
I just watch on Mike I like my mentally switch on a podcast microphone in front of me and I found it so much easier to have conversations with people that way.
So that’s kind of interesting to me is bizarre.
I’m getting ready to play Steve Jobs now because I’m fascinated to see your spin on this.
And this is the fulcrum of the whole show so this is a job.
Don’t be free to do that of course it was impossible to connect the dots looking forward. When I was in college but it was very very clear looking backwards. Ten years later again you can’t connect the dots looking forward. You can only connect them looking backwards.
So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future.
You have to trust in something your gut destiny life karma whatever because believing that the dots will connect down the road will give you the confidence to follow your heart even when it leads you off the well-worn path.
And that will make all the difference.
When I’m going to ask a different question because I think you’ve answered it already but you will say yes you believe in it. But why do you think so many people don’t believe in that.
I think that’s a lot. Most people get hung up on the how of something for example I think that we we pick a point be right we pick a point B that’s there’s the dot so I’ve got this I want to I want to do I want to have this show.
And to get this show together I need this this this this this this this and we get stuck in the details of the this this this this this instead of. All right I’m going to sort of flow through this. All I want to do is get to that thing. I’m not sure how I’m going to get there yet but I’m going to I don’t really know. And by the time you get there and you look back and go wow that is not the path that all that I was going to take.
My favorite metaphor.
Or maybe it’s an analogy I forget but for this is if you and I were sitting at a cafe and I there was you know a three story building across the street and I said David there’s a hundred thousand pounds sitting in a bag on the roof of that building across the street. You have 15 minutes to get it.
How fast would you be out the door to go get that money.
I’d be on the right run the window right but you wouldn’t know how you were going to get it.
You had no idea how to get to the roof of that building. You just knew you were getting to the roof.
You don’t know if you’re going to you know helicopter down you know if you’re going to call the fire department to take you up there or you know scale like Spiderman but you’re getting to the roof of that building somehow.
And I think what successful entrepreneurs do is they just keep their eye on that that you know that bag the bag that’s on the roof.
They’re not quite as concerned about the how part. And we very much get concerned about the how part.
And the second piece of that is when someone gives you an opportunity I just said this a little earlier when someone gives you an opportunity.
Our instinctive reaction is to say no because of this this and this versus just instinctive to say yes and I’m going to figure out how to work out this this and this and that is a huge mental shift even though it’s very subtle.
It’s just yes and no.
But if you’ll find that people in your world that are really successful or really look like they’re just having a great time.
They’re the ones that say yes first and then figure out how it’s going to work after and most of the people that are stuck and they don’t get from that one dot to the next dot.
Those are the ones that say no because you know I I can’t live in San Diego because I have kids in school or because I can’t afford the move or because whatever we can come up with 15 different ways. But in reality all that stuff can be worked out.
So I think that’s how I would respond to that and I hope that helps someone.
So what scares you this is probably my final question before I send you on the mike and you can have a one on one with your younger self. As you all know and you’ve got these rocking and rolling show everything’s going well you’ve just bought these the watch you’ve finished off the last five years and everything’s good and you’ve got a lovely new girlfriend.
What scares you. Well when you look at what you need to achieve.
What scares me.
I have to say I look at the bank being intimidated or being excited. I sort of treat the same way.
So I don’t get super excited about everything and I don’t get scared about everything.
I gosh I mean I don’t I I can honestly say I don’t have that for the same reason when someone said you know when I was so literally I was scraping up change so I could take in an airport shuttle for a ticket that was paid for by somebody else to go speak in front of 3000 people and that in which I was going to make $5000 or whatever that weekend. A few years ago I I literally had to scrape $8 up so I could take the shuttle like in change so I could take the shuttle to get to the airport that I had.
I had $18 in my bank account at the time.
And so it wasn’t enough to get the cash out of the machine. So I wasn’t worried about it.
I’ve never been worried about stuff like that and I didn’t even know what success was going to look like for me.
But I had a feeling that I was destined for it.
And that’s the only way I can say is that it was it was very innate and I didn’t know where it was going to come from but I was very patient about it. Now I was also very patient about about you know I knew I was going to meet a great woman at some point and I was able to reach you know like you said read about a year ago but but recently.
So I think that I have that that vibe that that it’s the same reason I don’t plan a lot. I just don’t.
I’m living very much in the moment as I go day by day.
And for better or for worse I don’t plan as much as I probably could or should.
But right now I’m not really you know scared about anything. I mean I could say you know the show doesn’t grow at all. But even if it doesn’t I’m live in a great life right now.
So I guess I’m not even that scared of that.
OK last question before we send you back this time.
Is it easier to move forward when you’ve hit rock bottom and you really did hit rock bottom.
Yes it is. It’s easier for me to keep perspective on it.
I just last weekend went to I went to Napa Valley with my girlfriend’s family and it was a very first class trip like from private private jet from San Diego to Napa Valley which I’ve never done before my life and everything was super exclusive super like Michelin star first class and I was like man I don’t want to be here like this.
No I don’t mean like I didn’t want to be at the weekend. I just I don’t want to live in that universe of that sort of high end world.
And that’s it.
I I remember looking longingly at a train that goes through Napa Valley and it stops at all these different wineries and I’m kind of like Man I wish I would’ve just taken the train and gotten kind of drunk at the third winery and kept going and that would’ve been a really fun day. Instead it was like this you know 12 people serving our table kind of thing and it just wasn’t me.
But my my Philly boy sort of like Kragen pragmatist personality carried me through that whole weekend thinking yeah I would be fine with stopping at a fast food place now and going to another winery. We don’t have to go to a hundred dollar plate dinner you know.
And so I think if anything it’s given me perspective and there’s one more piece of perspective that in my very very lowest time and it was very low.
And I thank you for not like making me go through that again like 40000 other shows have but I had a I remember the current hurricane Katrina had hit the southern United States and it just decimated New Orleans.
And this was literally at my lowest time. And I remember looking on the news and seeing like a little 9 year old little black kid who everybody in his family died.
Right. And he lost everything like lost every piece of memory he ever had including all of his family members.
And he’s this kid who doesn’t have much of an education.
He’s a minority.
He doesn’t have a lot of opportunity that are coming coming to him and I remember thinking all right no matter what happens I’m a white male with a skill set in United States and that’s not and that’s not to be racially insensitive I’m looking. That was a practical. OK.
So no matter what my situation is I can’t complain like I’m starting with these four advantages that a lot of people all over the world don’t have. I will be given opportunities that a lot of people don’t have and that really kept me grounded like that there was this you know that some people had to struggle to get to what I had innately by birth that I had nothing to do with.
So that really kept me grounded and it still keeps me grounded to this day is that I always realize that there’s people out there that do not have the same opportunities that I knew the answer.
Mike are we going to put you on the Sermon on the mike now. This is when we send you back in time lost a young Marty McFly to have a one on one with yourself and if you could go back in time.
What age would you choose and what advice would you say. So I’m going to play the music and when he gets out you’re up. This is the Sermon on the mike.
Here.
We go with the speed of this.
This man.
Who.
I think that first of all very handsome very very talented man couldn’t congratulate now.
If you could work on harnessing that Philly attitude a little bit just over the next few years if you could take the edge off of that. Not everybody is out to get you and focus on building some relationships that you will sustain forever without having that kind of you know screw you Gene.
Not Eugene. I don’t know anybody named Eugene. I’m not trying to signal that that will serve you in the future.
Yeah.
So to some or to to to bring that and I know that was very short but to bring that in I feel like over the last few years I’ve been able to take this.
There was a bit of filea attitude like where if someone slighted me in any way that was it they were erased like done.
And there was no real going back. It was partially like it was a Scorpio in me that that that’s sort of like had that stinger.
And I you know it’s it’s the it’s the patience I have now which is maybe a little bit of it’s I wouldn’t say less judgment because I think judgment makes for good comedy.
But but it’s just maybe being a little more empathetic to people’s situations and realizing that that people aren’t always in control of their actions and sometimes they’re going through a learning process as well. And to just instantly give them the guillotine and out of one’s life is not the most productive way to go through things. I don’t do that anymore but I did it for a number of years and I think it was just a reaction to losing my parents and it being so so much.
OK Wolf I’m going to lose this anyway I might as well just cut it right off.
And I think that didn’t that didn’t serve me for a long time.
So I’d fix that.
Michael how can our listeners connect with you sir. Well you know this. Oh I know you say you say in an American Xon is better I would say the same thing if you were speaking in a British accent. By the way you going to come on my show some time. I would love to come on your show it oh no great. And Howard Jones I want him to go.
Has he been on your show yet. No he isn’t knocking me back. He said he would and not me but I’ve called a few of them that sign up for it. And then you just come down and that’s a drag.
Anyway the show is called the Solar Perner hour.
The Web site because no one can spell pre-New or is solo our dotcom.
And if you’d like some coaching give a coaching program yet.
I’ve only been focused on building you audience.
That’s good. Well so if anybody needs coaching including you my friend I can’t believe you’re not in solo lab. I want solo lab dotcom and we’d love to have you in our really cool community.
Mancow thank you so much for spending time with us tonight joining up those dots on the 100th episode and it’s quite the world’s longest episode of ever done as well. Please come listen. Is. Yeah we were about seven minutes past what we normally do. So come back again when you have more dots to join up because I do believe that by joining up the dots and connecting up pasts is the best way to build a future.
Mr. Michael O’Neill thank you so much. And thank you.

Today's guest entrepreneur joining us on the Join Up Dots Steve jobs inspired podcast, has a fascinating story of struggle, acceptance, madness, love and finding the path to a life that he never dreamt possible.

Following on the from his previous appearance on Join Up Dots on episode 138, our guest has built upon amazing, headline making life changes, whereby he suffered a relationship break up, sold his entire life on Ebay, hit the headlines, sold his life story to Disney, bought a tropical island, found love and tackled a bucket list of amazing experiences all within a a period of a few years.

But it is what he has done since these crazy fun times that inspires me more.

You see so many people will do so much, in a short period of time and then start to settle.

They will find themselves back in a routine, where the images of adventures past, haunt them like a character from a Charles Dickens novel.

Our guest today however has done the opposite.

He has saught out opportunities, conversations and experiences across the world and constructed a life that is on his terms.

As he says "I did my last interview with Join Up Dots while I was in Texas, house sitting for a friend there as part of our US RV adventure.

Since then Vanessa and I studied to become English teachers, then spent a year in China working as teachers in a private business, topping up the travel funds.

Since then we have become full-time nomads, using house sitting as our accommodation, and teaching online for a Chinese company as our primary income source. As our accommodation is basically free we only have to work a few hours per week to make ends meet.

It really is the global semi-retired dream lifestyle. We can live absolutely anywhere as long as we have a decent internet connection.

We have become very well known in the house sitting community, and have been very successful in securing some very sought-after luxurious house sits.

So how has he managed to build something from scratch, when right from the very start he was out of his long established comfort zone?

And could he ever go back to a life that was controlled by the decision making of someone else?

Well let's find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots with the one and only Mr Ian Usher

Today’s guest joining us on the Join Up Dots free business podcast interview, is a man where you think where do I start?

This is a man with three distinct areas of his life, which he calls his key stories.

One being an explorer, one being an adventurer, and one being the start of his entrepreneurial life.

When he was in Berlin back in 2006, he was like all of us, and was in a bit of a funk.

He was studying computer science, but had no idea how to make a living from the subject that he was learning.

And we hear this time and time again from people across the world.

You start in a world of confusion, unsure of anything, even what you are doing at that time, but that is ok.

Even though throughout your life you may have times when you are lost and unsure of your next move you only have to do two things.

Gain as much knowledge whilst you are in that position, as there are gifts in your confusion.

And then secondly say “Yes” to things, to put yourself in new experiences where those learnings start to make sense.

And that is what our guest did, as without a clue to his future, a friend phoned him one day and his life started to change forever

As he says” I got a call from a friend who’s hobby it was to use an old press ID card to sneak into expensive conferences to network and eat free food.

He said: “You need to come to the Hyatt Hotel, there is a Ruby on Rails conference and the food is amazing”.

“Ruby on what??” he replied. It was a fairly new programming language back in 2006. Free food sounded good though, so an hour later he was standing at the buffet and filling my plate with heaps of tasty salmon.

A recruiter standing next to him, who had paid $1000 be there, asked if he wanted a job – working with Ruby on Rails!

He pretended to have some experience and accepted this offer. From that moment on, while studying, he worked 2 days a week programming in various startups as a freelancer, all thanks to his desire to eat fish.”

And that is where we will start today’s episode of Join Up Dots, even though I have no idea myself where this conversation is going to go.

So does he still have episodes of confusion in his life, or is it now a seamless journey of experiences and success, as he travels around the world inspiring others to create a life on their own terms?

And does he look back at his life and now see gifts in the dark times when he didn’t have a clue, which powers the belief to keep moving forward in his life?

Well let’s find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots with the one and only Fabian Dittrich.

Today’s guest joining us on the Join Up Dots Steve Jobs inspired podcast is a lovely lady who from her home in Miami Florida is taking huge action to create the life that she wants.

But it wasn’t always the case, as over nine years ago after earning a degree in business administration, with her whole life laying ahead of her she received one of those life epiphany’s that you just cant ignore

As she says” In December 2007 I was at a BBQ my mom put together to celebrate my graduating with a bachelors degree in business administration in finance. It was an evening of fun, laughter and dancing. Graduating was definitely something to celebrate especially because I did it while being a mom and working full-time as an assistant controller. While I was enjoying the evening with family, friends, music and great food I found myself not feeling happy or satisfied. It felt like something was missing. For some reason I thought happiness would take place after a degree. After that night I thought all I needed was to get a different job; so I went from a small business to a corporate job in search of happiness. After a couple of years I found I had a fiery desire to do something else all together. I realized I was just existing.”

And so she started taking action, upskilling herself and working like crazy towards a future that would be under her control and perfect for her.

But how many times do we feel that life is being a bit unfair, when we are working so hard to make it what we want?

And this was certainly the case with our guest, who also found herself as a single mother looking after two young boys, which I think will be the starting point of todays show.

So did she study a subject that was something that friends and family have done, or did she simply choose something that looked good on paper?

And going back over the dots, were there anytimes that she would now erase if she had the chance, or were their gifts in everything she has dealt with?

When someone sends me a request to be a guest on the show, and during the email he says

"I am a huge believer in creating and achieving our own definition of success. We are all unique and we all have something incredible to share. We are the authors of our own stories and I get fired up helping and discussing with people about their journeys. I am still on my my journey and I still have a long way to go, but every day is another chance to continue growing and learning! The only shortcut in life is to start now and I try to make every day count."

Then I know that he is a guy worth talking to.

Since graduating from the University of Southern California last May he has been flexing the old hustle muscle big-time.

And this is not the old hustle muscle flexing where the doors are already half open, but the kind of grind it out flexing that takes time to achieve, with no guaranteed success waiting at the end.

He has worked for the Los Angeles Lakers, started a new business, and wrote a book, called Elevate Beyond: A Real World Guide to Standing Out in Any Job Market, Discovering Your Passion and Becoming Your Own Person

But Like most people the entrepreneurial rout was not evident at the beginning of his career, with several short terms roles being held such as Business Assistant for Relativity Sports and Samsung NBA Summer League Intern.

But you could see once he created Straight Curve Marketing, a company that offers a selection of products ranging from t-shirts to shot glasses that his career was only going to go one way.

And now with both this venture, and Fundamental Mindset, a lifestyle, entrepreneurial blog that shares stories, interviews, advice and experiences to help you maximize your potential, achieve success, and have fun doing it...it looks like he is having fun too.

So when did his mindset change to one of creating his own future, or perhaps it was there all along?

And does he see the link between the more fun he has the more success he gains?

Today’s guest entrepreneur joining us on the Steve Jobs inspired Join Up Dots podcast interview is a man who has been through so much that you would think that a smile wouldn’t be permanently attached to his face.

But attached it is, and it seems to be getting bigger everyday too.

You see this is a guy who found his path to success, fulfilment and enjoyment in such a dark place that it is testament to the truth “The real gift is waiting within”

As he says “For nearly two decades of my early life, there was always something wrong with me. I was dead tired and suffered from an avalanche of health problems. I endured all of this even though I was an athletic and supposedly fit young man.

I tried to ignore it, tucking it all under a rug, but eventually there came a day when I decided enough was enough. And it was all because of this one fateful event…

It was late one Wednesday night in the middle of March, a few days before my 17th birthday. I had just returned home from soccer practice, but I was even more of a mess than usual…”

You see he had finally come to the acceptance that there was something wrong within, that not only would change his outward appearance dramatically, but also threaten his life dream of becoming professional footballer forever.

He had found his biggest challenge, one that would take him to the brink, before he managed to step onto the first part of the path, that would lead him to where he is today.

A New York Times best selling author and one of the most trusted health experts in the world, appearing on TV and radio across the world.

So how did he beat the physical issues, when he also had to tackle the mental issues that made his teenage years so difficult too?

And does he feel that this is 100% what he should be doing with his life, or is he simply waking towards the bigger path, waiting patiently for him?

Today’s guest joining us on the Steve Jobs inspired Join Up Dots Podcast is a man who has experienced something that we see time and time again on Join Up Dots.

Sometimes a calling is waiting to be answered.

You work through your life, doing a myriad of things until with a knock knock on the door, you are thrown into a world that for many begs the question.

“Why the hell didn’t I do this earlier….its amazing”

Well today’s guest is such a person and after growing up on the south-West side of Houston Texas, did what many young men did in the late seventies.

Saught out adventure and travel by joining the US Navy for 23 years, which had him based in Virginia where he ultimately retired in 2001.

But this is just a small part of his story as he also worked as a restaurant manager, a musician and also in the auto-mobile industry as a Service advisor.

None of these occupations giving much clue to where his life was heading.

It was however, after he started doing daily posts on Facebook that his wife Sandy had an idea, and over a period of time persuaded him to write a book

And so he started writing a novel about growing up in the sixties. which turned out to be something of an epiphany to him.

As he says “I found that I have a natural gift that I was unaware I possessed.”

And now the books just keep on coming with the name of “Best Selling author” firmly linked to his output.

He has written six novels from coming of age comedy to supernatural thrillers.

His latest work, Xtreme Options, is a fast paced Detective Murder Mystery that throws the Irish pair of Bryce Mallory and Shamus Crawley into a whirlwind of excitement as they match wits with the High Stakes Killer, who gives his victims a chance to walk away if they win the bet.

So although he states his writing skills were a complete surprise, did he ever show a passion for English and Literature at school?

And what does he say to people who often say things like “It’s ok for you, I’m just not talented at anything!”

Today’s guest joining us on the Join Up Dots Steve Jobs inspired podcast is a lady who has made very happy.

As this is the second time I have had the pleasure of grilling her on the show, as she last appeared back on episode 208, where we talked about her rise to the top of the fitness industry from a starting point that was more than a bit unusual.

Yep, that’s all i’m saying, so you will have to go back and listen to that one to find out her unusual past occupations.

So when she connected with me again and said “David, have I got more dots to share with you and your listeners” then I knew it was going to be good stuff.

And it as this is a lady that is tackling one of the hardest fitness courses the world has scene “The Spartan Ultimate Team Challenge” created by Jo De Sena who also appeared on the show back on episode 312

And the big question to this desire to get down, muddy and sweaty is why?

She is a beautiful lady, has a great business that is rocking and rolling, has clients across the world, and could stay in her comfort zone quite happily.

But she doesn’t want to.

She wants to prove herself and go after bigger and bigger challenges, which really joins up the dots to our first interview.

As this is not your usual uber glamorous fitness guru.

But this is a lady will drive, commitment and passion to do the unusual.

To create her own path,

And to go to bed each night content to know that she has given it her very best.

So what was the appeal of going onto the hit TV show “Spartan Ultimate Challenge”?

And did she discover things about herself that were a complete surprise, or only cement what she already knew?

Today's guest joining us on the Join Up Dots Steve Jobs inspired podcast contacted me and said "Hey I Think I Should Be A Guest On The Show"

And so of course I said, "Ok, then, do you have some interesting back-story that will make the show amazing!"

Two seconds later he hit me with:

1. Started out on 6 figure salary at age 23

2. Went broke and got evicted onto the streets with wife and first child

3. Started business from scratch.

4. Went broke again

5. Outsourced my business to a competitor

6. Ran my company out of a hotel lobby for a year

7. Grew it and semi retired on passive earnings at age 31

8. Started a podcast, digital agency and investment fund

Which is quite a good list I'm sure you agree, oh and then he also told me " ok, lets talk about how I almost died, I haven't mentioned that one"

So with this lot to cover this could be episode one of a ten part serial, but we will see what we cover in the show.

But its clear to see that this guy has hustle muscle by the bucket load, has the ability to overcome setbacks and keep going for the big picture, and of course loves what he is doing.

You can hear that on the "Can I Pick Your Brain?" Podcast.

So, the question is would he have got to where he is today without succumbing to the huge ups and downs that life has thrown at him?

And knowing what he knows now would he have done things differently or still followed the course to where he is today?

Well lets find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots with the one and only Mr Daniel Gefen.

Today’s guest entrepreneur joining us on the Join Up Dots Steve Jobs inspired podcast is an author with a deep interest in what makes people tick.

What makes some individuals rise to greatness, whist others with much more chance of getting to the top fall by the wayside.

And through his seven books ranging from When Everything Fails, Try This, published in 2009 right through to 2015’s “Becoming Unbreakable: How Normal People Become Extraordinarily Self-Confident”  he helps us push the boundaries on what is possible.

By tackling subjects such as “How did Buffalo Bill cope with his tremendous financial mistakes?” and “Which crucial success principle was discovered by the Ancient Roman poet Ovid?”  their stories will show us all what to do when we are confronted with severe problems, even when everything seems lost.

As he says “This book aims at making you highly resistant to adversity. It’s principles will enable you to move on with your life despite difficulties, obstacles, and setbacks.”

So when did he decide that these were the kind of subjects that would bring him the most success, and did he stumble and fall like all of us before his first publication hit the shelves?

And with all this information he has gained, regarding dream building and successful pursuits is he more likely to achieve bigger dreams than even he thought possible?

Well let’s find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots, with the one and only Mr John Vespasian

Todays guest entrepreneur joining us on the Steve Jobs inspired podcast is a lady with a connection to a previous episode.

If you go back and listen to episode 473 of Join Up Dots you will hear an open and frank discussion with Jim Sweeney.

During the recording he spoke passionately about his amazing wife and the work she was doing, so its with delight that we now have her on the show.

So lets give you a bit of background formation about her, and what she is doing on life.

From the early part of her career she was in the words of one of her friend “Groomed” for success.

She was setting out on a path towards being a lawyers

As she says “The master plan (which certainly sounds good on its surface) would entail my following in my late grandfather’s footsteps to become a New Jersey lawyer. For a girl born in the late ’50s, it was somewhat ambitious and even professionally affirming.

There were just two problems: 1) I didn’t want to practice law and 2) I didn’t want to live in New Jersey.

Though I could have easily articulated the second (negative) goal, the first negative goal was a bit more complex. Why didn’t I want to practice law? Simply put, I had neither passion nor vision for the profession. When laid against my inward leanings, it translated to me as a solitary, rigid and uninspired career.

Despite trying to please those around me and stay true to the instruction manual that would get me to this supposed life goal as a New Jersey lawyer, I became increasingly dis-spirited. The more I moved through the law school process the more “dead” I felt.”

And haven’t most of us felt that at one time or another, simply going through the motions.

Waiting for each weekend to free us up from the life we are living?

Well today’s guest has done just that and now calls herself the Ambassador of Happiness, on a mission to help ignite the worlds on personal happiness.

She has books, podcasts, courses and the worlds biggest smile to share everywhere?

So does she think that she could have gone through the Law degree and found some kind of happiness in the role, or did she need to do a 360.

And where is her greatest source of happiness now she is surrounded by it?

Well lets find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots with the one and only super happiness entrepreneur Maura Sweeney

Today’s guest entrepreneur joining up the dots and following the words of Steve Jobs, is a man who has certainly experienced the highs that life can give you.

And also certainly those times in life when the universe decided to give you a devastating kick to your confidence, self-esteem, ability to love openly, to leave you with little idea as to what to do next.

Our guest is theatrical at heart and even at the age of six could be found bursting into song where he lived, so it was little surprise that his earlier career was spent gaining the knowledge of what works and what doesn’t within the theatre world.

He studied hard, and learnt much (not least how to take down theatre sets rather quickly) when he moved from New Jersey to New York City at the age of 21 to tackle the world of fame, fortune, and the Broadway stage.

This was of course where stars are made, and soon he would be rubbing shoulders with DeCaprio, Ford and the like as he would spend his Saturday mornings ensuring that his star on the Hollywood walk of fame was free from footprints and sparkling.

As he says “By the time I turned twenty-five, I thought I’d have the perfect life—a few years singing on Broadway, followed by a starring role in my own television show.

Instead, his resume is filled with an assortment of minor league theatre and an appearance on The Maury Povich Show—a career sidetracked by his father’s suicide, a lawsuit from his mother over his inheritance, and a break-up with his long-term girlfriend.

Eight years later and through a series of remarkable life events, a bad economy, and mixture of collegiate and self-education; our guest reinvented himself as an international public speaker, author, playwright, theatre producer, educator, marketing consultant, and arts entrepreneur.

Now as we see everyday this is not about reinventing as such, but truly making the decisions that builds a life, instead of allowing for things to happen to us.

Not allowing fickle finger of fate to take away what we thought was our by right.

So how did he take his fathers tragic suicide and find the strength not only tell the tale on stage, but place a comedic spin on it too?

And even though still a young man, does he fell battle scarred and weary, or have the feeling that where he is now is the start of when things get really good?

Well lets find out as we bring onto the show to start Joining up dots with the one and only Mr Joshua Rivedal.

Todays guest joining us on the Steve Jobs inspired Join Up Dots podcast is an author with a similar tale to many of our guests.

At least the starting point is.

He was born in Michigan, where he lived for most of his childhood, before making the decision to join the U.S. Navy upon graduating high school.

He served aboard three different ships and at the U.S. Naval Station at Subic Bay in the Philippines.

And whilst on-board dealing with the idle hours, he began writing about his experiences simply as a way to pass the time.

Which is something that most of us will do, but not consider why we are doing it.

But the simple answer is we are not trying to simply pass the time, but instead are choosing to do something that we enjoy to pass the time.

Which if you can then find a way to monetize this enjoyable pursuit, you quite simply never ever work again.

After getting out of the Navy he worked at a variety of jobs, including fry cook, baker, disk jockey, electrician’s assistant, book seller, editor, teacher, and taxi driver.

But it was when he took advantage of the G.I. Bill to attend college in Hawaii, that he discovered that he could actually write well, and where he continued to polish his skills.

He worked as student writing tutor beginning in his second year, and won a number of writing awards during his junior and senior years.

All of these small dots building up to something that couldn’t be denied. He was on his way to becoming an author.

He just needed to write that first book, which appeared once he relocated to Japan and took a job in Tokyo.

He took on the National Novel Writing Month challenge, and after three false starts, finished his first 50,000 word novel in 2011 called The Crossroads at Forgotten Lake and the rest is history.

So why was it that he took so long to get to the point that his writing prowess could be unleashed on the world?

And does he look back to his life before the Navy and see any more clues as to where his life was ultimately going to end up?

Today’s guest entrepreneur joining us on the Steve Jobs inspired business podcast interview is a man who can be described, almost in just one small sentence.

He believes in himself, has big ideas and creates.

And as we see time and time again on Join Up Dots, having that belief is the part that most people struggle with.

But get it, and fully embrace that belief, then you simply become unstoppable.

Which appears to bet the case with todays guest.

He is an established personal branding expert, author, and speaker, and also an author of several books, based around social media.

And as a result he regularly appears on CNBC, CNN, Fox News and Good Day New York.

As he says “I find joy in teaching, and presenting the keynote conferences & love helping people realize how powerful social media can be to create your personal brand, generate awareness & sales through social media channels.”

And that is the part that most new entrepreneurs struggle with, building the awareness of what they can offer to the world.

They have the skills

They have the passion.

But getting the word out more often than not is one step to far, and they struggle until little by little they get the ball rolling.

So did our guest today have the same issues back in the day, or was it like jumping onto a magic carpet first stop Successville?

And when did he realise that he had created his own personal brand, and was it a surprise to him, or part of his master plan?

Well let’s find out as we bring onto the show, to start joining up dots with the one and only social media entrepreneur Chris Dessi.

Todays guest entrepreneur joining us on the Steve Jobs inspired podcast interview is a man with a vision that matches that of my own.

He is convinced, that the future of entertainment lies not with cable or satellite television, but on the Internet….which is where we all hang out really isn’t it.

As he says “We’re about three years before our time, But What’s happening now, if you watch the financials, cable and broadcast TV are going down.

Their subscriber growth is dying and in the next three years, experts are saying 70 percent of content – news, entertainment, sports, whatever – will be viewed on wireless devices of some kind.”

He believes Internet-based streaming is the wave of the future.

But this isnt the only interesting thing about todays guest, as not only is he creating the latest viewing and listening pleasure for us all, but he also operates from quite an usual location

His company 4cast.tv is based out of an old AT&T station, which he has spent over seven million dollars preparing in case of doomsday.

The structure itself being a Cold War relic designed, as most communication buildings were then, to withstand nuclear blasts.

The walls are thick, with only a few windows break up the exterior.

Not the most obvious place for a cutting edge entrepreneur to want to work.

But our guest is different, and even before I speak to him I get a feeling that he relishes this difference.

Highlighted by the fact that instead of investing in gold and silver he went with toilet paper, due to the reasoning “We all need it!”

You cannot go against that logic after all.

So why is it that with Netflix, Amazon Prime, Podcasting and a myriad of new media rising up the world is still content with their monthly cable packages?

And would he say that anyone jumping into the pool today would still be in prime position on the curve?

Today’s guest entrepreneur following the words of Steve Jobs by joining us on the top rated Join Up Dots podcast interview is a man on a mission.

He is here everyday to find the best ways for companies or individuals to increase their happiness and fulfilment on all levels.

Which is an interesting statement to make, especially in regards to having happiness before anything else.

As most people would consider that they gain the rewards first, and that is where the happiness begins, but our guest feels differently

As he says “I help individuals transitioning into becoming an entrepreneur or making the best of the journey once you are on the path. And the most important, helping to find the best ways for the company or individual to create more happiness, joy & fulfillment in business and life!”

So where did he start on the road to where he is today?

Well that began many years with Berkshire Hathaway as a branch manager, rising through all Exec positions and to the CEO position in only 10 years.

During this period, he was fortunate enough to spend quite a bit time with super investor Warren Buffet and the numerous associates and high-calibre leaders that now form his inner circle.

Which was an amazing chance to view the supper achievers at close hand, working in the natural environment, and now take these lessons into his own business with Achlemy Advisors.

So did he gain more from the experience of doing, or more from the opportunity to view how these individuals operate?

And is he now where he truly wants to be in his professional life, or is he just getting going on the true path that was waiting for him to find?

Well let’s find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots, with the one and only US entrepreneur Mr Steve Rogers.

Todays guest entrepreneur joining us on the Steve Jobs inspired Join Up Dots free podcast interview is a man who was introduced to me by Ginger Kern who appeared on the show way back on episode 115

He is an author, host of the hit podcast "The Year Of Purpose", entrepreneur, video lover and and a guy who appears to have started moving at an astonishing speed towards the dreamlife, due basically to realising it was down to him to start moving.

As he says “I’ve held every job from being a pastry chef in a gourmet bakery to fixing iPhones at the Apple Store Genius Bar. In May of 2013 I left the corporate 9-5 world behind to become an entrepreneur.

I was still living with my parents, had next to nothing in savings and ditched my 401K to design a video production company that would place me in the White House along with NFL and NBA arenas around the country.”

But all action starts when the dots have started joining up and placing you in a position to thrive, and from starting his career as a Student Intern at Post-Op Media he moved through a series of positions that all have one thing in common.

He is a creator and a visionary.

He likes nothing more than the process of creating something eye-catching.

So it was with little surprise that he became the CEO of ZMBmedia, a Baltimore based video production company providing online marketing videos a promotional content to high end clients including AAA and Merrill Shoe Company.

But what is surprising was his next move, as after working in his business for a year and a half, it started to feel more like a job again.

He was struggling to find the motivation to make the money he so desperately needed.

So he moved out and got his own place, built a business (which brings in more expenses) and did everything right… or so he thought.

As he says “I was in a funk and had no clue what to do. But if there was one thing that was certain, I wasn’t living my life purposefully and I had to find a way to reignite the fire fast.”

And that is where we will start today’s show, in the same position as so many of our guests who are lost, confused and know that something awaits them.

But what could it be?

So when he decided to jump from his business, and break free for California?

And how did he silence the brain chatter that more often than not keep us rooted to the spot?

And, know knowing what he knows would he advise everyone to do this, or does it take a special type of person?

Well lets find out, as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots, with the one and only Mr Zephan Moses Blaxberg.

Todays guest entrepreneur joining us on the Steve Jobs inspired Join Up Dots podcast interview is a networking expert, who spends his time networking with millionaires...and their advisors, who has a story like so many entrepreneurs I have spoke to.

He started his life with limited idea of what he wanted to become, and even less of an idea of how to start something…in fact anything.

As he says ” I was born in Denmark it all started out pretty bad. I was very shy and introverted and had no idea what I wanted in life, except I didn’t want to be employed.

So with no real business education I started my first business at 21. Since I had no marketing know how, it only took me a year to run my business deep into the ground and go bankrupt.”

But there comes a time when you realise that after years of study at school, that most of us want to leave far behind, you need to get serious and study like your life depends on it.

You need to become an expert in something that can open doors across the world.

Our guest realised that its ok to have an amazing business idea or product, but unless people find out about it, you are dead in the water.

And so with a total obsession he set to work understanding the skills required to become a top marketer.

And so successful was he at learning these skills, that he built a worldwide business and retired whilst still a young man.

And like all the greatest sportsman who find out that retirement isn’t all its cracked up to be, he returned to teach entrepreneurship and marketing and set out to create one of London’s biggest entrepreneurial communities with almost 17,000 ACTIVE members.

All from just £3,500 in total marketing costs.

As he says “Before you think I’m one of those people that think they can walk on water 24/7, I’m definitely not. In fact I’ve made some big mistakes that I’m quite embarrassed about. But I’m not afraid to admit it and talk about my boo-boo’s especially because I know it can save someone else from the same ill fate.”

So why did he always know that he didn’t want to employed even as a small child?

And what were the really big mistakes and how did he mentally recover to keep moving forward?

Todays guest entrepreneur ready to follow the words of Steve Jobs, by joining up their dots is a man based in the entrepreneurial hub of the world San Diego.

Yeah this is where the movers and shakers seem to congregate, and who can blame them.

But it certainly is a well worn path that he has travelled to becoming known as the “Sales Whisperer” focusing on the principles that make people want to buy from us instead of the cold call.

And this simple premise has given him the freedom to create a life of dreams.

A career full of motivational speeches, and inspirational conversations with his customers

As he says “Since 1994 I’ve looked for ways to drive sales, and I’ve learned that selling is easier and more valuable to both the sales person and the client if good marketing makes the client aware of you and then contacts you to buy because none of us likes to be “sold.”

Seems simple and certainly the best way to go about things.

Now back in the early 90’s our guest today, had other things on his mind than making sales become easy.

He was firmly entrenched in the US Airforce and did five years in a job until today I didn’t know existed.

e travelled the world from South Korea to Abu Dhabi sticking his finger into the air trying to figure out the best time to launch aircraft and strike targets not playing nice with the U.S. and our allies.

He was a Wing Weather Officer, and maintained and optimized various unit CRM / Databases to track personnel and equipment for rapid deployment and emergency reaction to Asia and the Middle East.

And this knowledge of databases seems to be one of his first big dots, as he has taken this throughout his career, and now is an Infusionsoft expert, TedX veteran, and podcaster with an unusual talent.

He is still podcasting, and unlike so many that stop after ten or so shows, is now racing towards 200 episodes of his top show “The Sales Podcast”

Added to that he has produced seven kids…even more than me, you know that he is a man at the top of his game to be spinning so many plates at one time.

So what was it about the military that was so attractive to him as a young man?

And is the entrepreneurial route one that he would encourage his kids to go into, unlike many parents that would encourage their offspring to get a job?

Well lets find out as we bring onto the show to start in the words of Steve Jobs, joining up dots with the one and only Sales Whisperer himself, the sales entrepreneur Mr Wes Schaeffer.

Todays guest joining us on the Steve Jobs inspired Join Up Dots has a belief that all of us in life, not least in business, should stop thinking, and start failing.

It’s the belief that unless we throw our plans away, take action, see if it works, and then take more action, that we wont ever get to where we should get in life..

And this is of course the mantra of every episode of Join Up Dots, evidenced by the words of the late Steve Jobs.

Like so many of us he started his adult life pursuing an education that appears on the outside to have little to do with what he is doing now.

Spending 4 years studying a masters degree in Chemistry at London’s Imperial College, he then followed the herd to a corporate job that he felt little connection to.

He joined Ernst and Young the auditing company as a consultant and spent time training university students, and developing a skills programme for new graduates.

Before moving onto Accenture in London and doing two more years, before saying enough is enough and taking the leap of faith.

And this is the fascinating part of his story.

As after spending almost three years “working” on outsourcing projects for two of the world’s largest professional service firms, life was beginning to develop a somewhat monotonous rhythm, with one of the only salvations being the occasional travel opportunities to large outsourcing centres in India.

So harnessing a desire to be independent, and to have an impact and with knowledge from the best outsourcers in the world, he decided to go his own way and start a small outsourcing service company.

With the help of a number of enthusiastic and extremely reliable Virtual Assistants, he set up the infrastructure and started providing an outsourcing service to startups and small businesses around Europe.

He took the experiences gained from his past, and brought them all together to build something valuable to the world and of course himself.

And now with appearances on Dragons Den, his own top ranked podcast 0 – $4, million, and a day to day hustle he is making his mark on the world.

So the question is, how did he know it was the time to take the risk and start going alone?

And does he now look back an realise that life is more about the failures than the successes?

Well lets find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots, with the one and only startup entrepreneur Mr Tom Hunt

Today’s guest entrepreneur joining us on the Steve Jobs inspired Join Up Dots podcast business interview is a lady who claimed fame in a very unusual way.

But most excitingly for a show like Join Up Dots she hasn’t set her stall out to allow that initial career success to define her but has gone on for bigger and bolder things.

As the creator of the Purse Process in 2013, her new adventures started in earnest when she started the process of being a bit nosy in ladies handbags.

And digging around to share how the secrets of the stuff that a lady carries around with them in their bag actually defines them.

Yes as her professional bio states “You see, I’m trained in ANTHROPOLOGY and ARCHEOLOGY, but I don’t much like digging in the dirt.

You may have noticed everything about me has a distinctly FEMININE flair.

I’m a girly girl from way back.

In fact, when I was three years old I had a complete meltdown simply because my mom came home with white panties for me instead of pink.

So as you might imagine, the working conditions of an archeologist doesn’t exactly suit a girl like me, so I had to get creative about how I’d apply the vast amount of knowledge I spent several years, countless hours, and paid beaucoup bucks to acquire.

Which is amazing to me to see applied in action.

The creativity to bring to the world something interesting, unique and career defining.

And it certainly was the case, leading to media performances, TedX talks, and a myriad of opportunities as the world started taking an interest in their day to day luggage.

And now our guest is tackling even bigger things, leaving behind the success that started off her career in such a spectacular way.

So todays discussion could start anywhere, and go anywhere which makes it so exiting to me.

Do we start talking about the motivation to get going?

Or the inspiration to actually start digging in ladies bags?

But if she knew she was so girly throughout her life, why did she enter into the world of Indiana Jones, Jurrasic Park and digging around in the dirt?

And does she see that experience is just gained purely to be able to shape your own reality and creative an authentic life of their own?

Today's episode of the Steve Jobs inspired Join Up Dots is another one of the special ones that make me really proud to bring to the world.

This is one of those shows whereby a listener of Join Up Dots, has taken so much action in their life, that they deserve to be blasted across the world.

And today's guest is going to do just that, as he is a musician, teacher, singer, songwriter, father, husband and a man flexing the hustle muscle everyday.

Starting his love for music when he was just nine years old when he started strumming the guitar, and by the age of 12 he had formed his first band “Splat” and was performing original music at school talent shows, ice-cream socials and private parties.

And it's all these activities at such a tender age which have the opportunity to become more than something just to do.

Actually becoming the first steps on the path to adulthood, and a life of their dreams.

But what happens when life has different plans?

What should you do when the future that you want is harder to come by than you expected?

Where you find different ways of doing it, and today's guest has done just that.

After recording his own album "Iowa Weather" he found himself in a slump.

He was working all the hours god gave him, he was supporting his family like every father should, and his recorded album was not getting out to the world.

And that is where we will begin today's show, as although I have never met him but I am proud to call him my guitar twanging buddy.

So has he ever been a normal employee, sitting in a cubicle waiting until 17:00pm to arrive so he can scamper home....free from the days hassles?

Or has he set out on on his path joining up his dots, with no plan B of any shape or form?

Well lets find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots in the words of Steve Jobs, with the one and only musician, entrepreneur, and friend Mr Dan Trilk.

Following the words of Steve Jobs with today’s guest entrepreneur finding the freedom to joining us on the Join Up Dots free podcast interview is going to be such a delight.

She is a the host of not just Blog - The Queen Of Results, but also the Power Factor Biz Chat and has such a similar story to many of the guests who have appeared on the show that im sure most of you will be the same too.

One of burnout, lack of confidence, debt and a myriad of other things, not least not seeing the family that she loved because she was working so hard.

She had no freedom and a lifestyle that was totally out of wack.

As she says in her own words ” I was incredibly burned out. So burned out, that all I wanted to do was drink a glass of wine or two and crash, only to get up and fake a smile through my next day. I felt like I was on a hamster wheel. Always moving but going no where.

To make matters worse, my beautiful teenage “gift” daughters were crying because they wanted more quality time with me and their dad, but we were always working. That was the final straw. Later that summer, I made a commitment to get control in my life. I was tired of letting my circumstances get in the way of my happiness. I deserved to live out my dreams and I was determined to “rock my universe”.

But then something came along which did rock her universe, even though she couldn’t quite see the gift that had been placed in front of her at the time.

Which lead her to start changing her life and break free from the 9 to 5 grind that had done so well to trap her for the last decade or so.

And now she spends every day teaching business owners how to do the same.

How to create a lifestyle that fits around the business, and not the normal route where business comes first.

So has it been harder to change direction so drastically, or did things become easy when she started playing to her strengths?

And as we ask all the time, when you have the freedom to control your own calendar how do you get anything done?

Joining us on the Steve Jobs inspired podcast is an amazing guest entrepreneur.

We have many types of people joining us on the top rated business podcast interview Join Up Dots, but today's guest is a slight departure from what we have seen recently.

Our guest grew up in New York State, where she had huge motivation to sing pop songs by Madonna around the house and then started writing her own pop songs at an early age.

Then when she was nine years old her school music teacher told her she had the voice of an opera singer, and took her to see her first opera.

Her great-grandfather was a virtuoso musician who signed with Victor Records in the 1890’s, but no one else in her family ever listened to classical music.

Which is a really interesting position to find yourself in.

Most people will struggle with fighting their way to a new future even if they are surrounded by people that have the same passion as them.

But find yourself in a world, where very few people understand what is going on inside you then it comes down to a huge amount of hustle muscle, and personal belief.

And so she worked at her talent, found the right people to work with and a few years later sang her first classical piece, and has never looked back.

But even more interesting is her refusal to do things any other way than her own, and is blending many different styles into her repertoire, even comedy with an off the wall version of “Hot Stuff” by Donna Summer.

So with all the avenues in front of her to travel, how does she make the decisions that will be right for her own career, and not dilute her natural born talent?

And does she embrace the hustle that it takes to build a career, or would she like to just get up there and belt them out?

Well lets find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots and follow the words of Steve Jobs, with the one and only singing entrepreneur Elizabeth Tryon.

Steve Jobs knew a thing or two, and todays guest entrepreneur joining us on the Join Up Dots free business podcast interview is a lady who buys into his words more than most.

She is a best-selling author, TEDx speaker, radio and television personality and seminar leader who is passionate about the expanding the edge of human potential.

She has written two best-sellers, “Calming the Chaos: A Soulful Guide to Managing Your Energy Rather than Your Time” and “Time for a Change!”

Her lifestyle is one of freedom and pure motivation

As she says in her own words “I am not one of those lucky people born with success in their back pocket. In fact nothing could be further from the truth. It would be more accurate to say that I fit the classic “tragedy to triumph” story.

Before my 2nd birthday, my family experienced the death of my father, his brother and father within 9 months of one another, all in separate car accidents. That means my grandmother lost her husband and two of her three sons in 9 months. Living in a very small town, it basically became my family legacy.

My mother did the best she could to raise three kids with no husband and a high school education in the 60’s and 70’s, but let’s just say it wasn’t easy.

I had more than a few challenges moving into my teen and young adult years. Poor relationships, addiction, domestic violence and numerous psychiatric diagnoses and medications were what I knew well into my 30’s.

But of course what you know doesn’t mean it is true.

It is only the reality of your life at that moment and you can rewrite your story by making bold decisions, taking creative action, and starting to truly believe in yourself.

And since then she has done just that and as she says “I am now the happiest person I know!”

So what was the shift from a life that was all about surviving whatever was thrown her way, to one that is a wow everyday?

And is this something that anyone can do, or do the dots need to start lining up first?

Well lets find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots and following the words of Steve Jobs, with the one and only Jackie Woodside.

Its with total delight that once more the words of Steve Jobs get reviewed with todays guest entrepreneur to the top rated business podcast interview show Join Up Dots.

She is a professional traveller, part-time writer, part-time book seller, part-time model, and full-time adventurer.

She has built a lifestyle of freedom and motivation.

She lives for the careers built around the kind of experiences that create a life that is a wow, and quite simply it seems to me won’t settle for what life simply gives her.

Instead she wants to take what is right for her.

But I suppose at her core, its not just about what’s right for her, but also what is right for the ladies of the world.

Yes, she is super passionate about empowering young women in marganilized communities and loves experiencing and sharing new cultures with others.

In fact just recently she was asked to join a small research team for a group called The Syrian Circle and spent the last month travelling across Europe (from Greece to Germany) to document stories of refugees, locals, and volunteers across the region .

The second part of her team’s mission was to meet with leaders in each country to better understand the situation, the needs in each region, and how people can specifically respond and advocate for refugees.

So you can see this is not your normal lady, who is seeking to climb up the corpartae ladder as quickly as she can.

As she says on her blog “Ive got big dreams and a curiosity to see, hear, and explore the world around me.”

So what was it about a life of adventure, and assisting the marginalised that so appealed to her?

And of course where does she see all this activity heading towards, as its great to be a lady on a mission, but ultimately none of us escape from the day to day living expenses?

Well lets find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots with the one and only Giselle Gonzales

Today’s guest entrepreneur reviewing the words of Steve Jobs, on the Join Up Dots free business podcast, is a lady who has gradually built her way to where she is today.

She quite simply has been through the lifecoach school of hardknocks and now through her top ranked podcast Coming Out Of The Fire she is showing others how to overcome lifes issues.

As her professional bio states “I am known in pop culture as America’s crisis Coach. I come alongside celebrities, professional athletes, corporations and other high-achievers to manage their crisis situations, save their reputations and minimize damage to themselves and their families.”

Which is quite a dramatic statement to make.

But what has lead to her to want to build a career, and one that is hugely successful around dealing with other peoples heartaches, and personal distress.

What made her want to step boldly into a world of crisis management and create a lifestyle of freedom and success.

Well reviewing her career, you can see clearly the dots that have lead her to this point starting with a ten year stint as a Senior Case Manager at Tehama County Mental Health in California.

Before undertaking the role of Executive Director responsible for a 24 bed, licensed residential facility for the mentally ill.

But to my point of view, and we will discuss this on the show the true signpost showing her the way to her current position was as a Court Investigator researching petitions for conservatorship or guardianship to prevent abuse, neglect or fraud.

Combining the personal issues that are encountered by mental health, with the day to day stuff that life throws at people, it is obvious that one word is formed: Crisis.

So does she see her career dissection in the same way as I do, or does she feel that other elements have lead her to where she is today?

And how does she remain bright and breezy at the end of the day after dealing with the kind of issues that her clients are bringing to her?

Well let’s find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots with the one and only entrepreneur herself Faydra Koenig.

Today’s guest entrepreneur following the words of Steve Jobs, on the top rated business podcast Join Up Dots is a man who not only has been on an amazing professional journey over the last 25 years, but also a personal journey equally as inspirational too.

For many years our guest worked for the big food companies and was obese, struggling with binge eating and over eating.

And of course as you can imagine this was not good for his well being, so he knew that he had to do something about it, and so he did.

He wanted a lifestyle of freedom and motivation and inspiration so made a plan.

He conducted research, found the motivation to self-fund a study with over 40,000 participants and made an astonishing transition from obesity and food obsession into a more light hearted relationship with food.

But believe me this isn’t a guy with just one success story that we could tap into, as he has had such an eclectic background, and tackled many different businesses and become a success in them all that we could start anywhere to make a great career show.

As he says “At the risk of being immodest, I probably have more experience in both coaching and business development than the founders of virtually any other coach certification program on the market. Through the International Coach Certification Academy, I would like to pass on my knowledge, experience, teaching and mentoring to you.

Together with my wife and academy co-founder Dr Sharon Livingston, we have sold over $30,000,000 in consulting services to major brands like AT&T, American Express and L’Oreal. I have personally worked with over 1,000 coaching clients and directly supervised many coaches and psychotherapists to”

So where do we start on the joining up of his dots?

What stage of his career is the most inspirational?

With the amazing physical transformation that he went through, losing many many pounds of unneeded weight?

Or right at the beginning, when he was a child and couldn’t have believed where he was going to end up?

Who knows, but let’s start like we always do, by bringing onto the show to start joining up dots, with the one and only super entrepreneur himself Dr Glenn Livingston.

Today’s guest following the words of Steve Jobs, is a remarkable woman, business lady, and entrepreneur who believes in something profound, and has created a career around that something too.

Something that I buy into wholeheartedly.

She believes that life should be built on finding your key strengths and leading the way with them.

Not focusing on the things that you cant do very well, but finding the super talent that you do naturally well to then blaze a path across the world.

Starting her career as a Sales Executive for Business To Business back in 1998, it appears that the path best trodden for her actually started when moving into staff development.

Like myself she has spent most of her working life, building the strengths of individuals in corporations to make better, higher functioning teams.

Getting people to feel inspired by the working day instead of dreading that ringing sound by the side of the bed.

But what interests me is what personally was driving her back in the day.

As with a career strewn with employment lasting a couple of years at each time, it is clear to me that her ambition, was equally matched with a desire to find her thing too.

And now as a podcaster herself, or as she calls herself the Chief Strengths Sleuth: Host of the “Lead Through Strengths” Podcast: she helps people find and leverage their strengths at work.

Complimenting her workshops, keynote speaking and by performing a role of StrengthsFinder Performance Coach, which as you know is a publication that I have recommended many times on the show she is busier than ever..

So what is it about keynote strengths that lights her up inside and makes her want to build a business around it?

And is the inner talent something that is easy for someone to find themselves, or do they need a coach or mentor to point it out?

And what is the fascination with moonwalking in offices, or leaping dramatically from exploding vans?

Well let’s find out as we bring onto the show, to start joining up dots, with the one and only entrepreneur Lisa Cummings.

To hear more from Lisa Cummings go to:

On a show like the Steve Jobs inspired Join Up Dots business podcast interview, its true to say that I have so many guest entrepreneurs who have interesting back stories, but not many that start with “Before I was seven years old I had lived in a house truck, on a commune, in France, in New Zealand, in Ireland, and several homes in England. I had been bathed in a sink, had a pet goose called Lucy, and I think it would be fair to say that my parents gifted me with a curiosity for the world.”

So upon hearing this I knew that I had to invite this lady onto the show, but wow what part of her career history do I tell you about in the introduction because without a doubt as she says “Life has been a bit of rollercoaster!”

Starting her career after gaining a BA in Theatre Practice and Scenic Art from the Central School of Speech and Drama, she went on to have a successful and (eventually) well paid career as a Freelance TV & Film Production Buyer, Stylist, and Project / Event Manager.

She worked hard and played harder.

She had motivation by the bucket load.

However her energies could only last so long and she would suffer from burn out at the end of every job.

She had money, and so she would take herself off to Thailand and engulf herself in fasting and raw food, or go off to Egypt for a yoga retreat.

Recharge the batteries to blaze even brighter in the entrepreneurial world.

And this was certainly the case, as upon returning she started one of the forerunners in the VA sphere and early adapters to Location Independent Business.

As she says “It was a wonderfully brave and stupid thing to do. I was homeless and sofa surfing, massively in debt and knew nothing about running a business. Which meant I had nothing to lose and gave it everything I had. Bootstrapping a business when you are desperate and resourceful can be a wonderful thing, and I was given opportunities to learn from many wildly inspirational Entrepreneurs, Businesses, and Private Clients.”

But of course this was just the beginning of everything that would lead her through some seriously dark moments, even contemplating suicide.

Her life was a roller coaster of working till she collapsed and then ‘retreating’ around the world.

And so the time came when she had her first pangs of “Is this it?!”

She wasn’t satisfied, there was a huge void in her life, she felt empty and in the midst of the impending recession she set up My Girl Friday Ltd, providing Freelance Personal and Virtual Assistance to Creative Businesses & Private Individuals in the UK and across the globe.

And that is where we will start today’s episode as now life is very different, but how has she made it the life that she wanted?

How did she take the entrepreneurial venture, and willingness to put the effort into a new business, but structure it that it didn’t bring her to her knees too?

Well let’s find out as we bring onto the show to start in the words of Steve Jobs, joining up dots, with the one and only misfit entrepreneur herself Ebonie Allard.

Podcast Intro

My guest today is the entrepreneur and publisher Mr Tom Morkes who joins us on the very first episode of “Join Up Dots” with the title of a man who quite simply changed my life

I don’t think that there are many people alive that I could say that about.

But strangely enough until today I have never met him or spoke to him live either.

Tom spent the beginning of his childhood in the Chicagoland and West Michigan areas, and then with all his Morkes siblings…three brothers and three sisters gained his education at the United States Military Academy at West Point NY.

Upon graduating he decided that there was a further step to go in his military life and was deployed to Iraq as a gun truck platoon leader.

You might have thought after so many years in an organised, structured environment such as the military, he would cling to a safe, organised future.

But our guest thought otherwise and set off on entrepreneurial path that has seen him write three books, become the president of his own publishing company, and generally having a kick ass life.

He travels the world with his lovely wife Courtney, his trusty laptop, and now on today’s podcast interview shares with us, the fears, achievements and success that has made up his life.

I would like to welcome to show the one and only In The Trenches Tom Morkes

For more information on Tom's podcast go to:

These no-bulls*** interviews cut through the fluff and go right into the mindset of what it takes to be a creator, battle scars and all. Listen to In The Trenches and youll hear from best-selling authors, startup founders, people who turned their art into full-fledged businesses, self-made millionaires, and much more. Just some of the subjects weve covered in the past: how to start a business from scratch, permission marketing, how to create and deploy effective design, business development, how to turn your hobby into a business, product launches, copywriting that converts, and much more. A message from Tom: All interviews are unscripted and unedited because I believe conversations are better when they're natural. I hope you enjoy this show as much as I do creating it.

Today’s guest joining us on the Steve Jobs inspired Join Up Dots free podcast interview is the founder of Tilted Pixel, a web design and development agency, which he has been running for more than a decade.

Which sounds great.

A successful business that is on-line too.

A lifestyle of motivation an freedom.

But actually the truth was anything but, as we will find out creating a business is easy enough in principle.

But creating a monster that takes up every second of your time is even easier.

And after more than ten years of running his agency, he knew that he had do some serious changing of procedures so that he could free himself from the business and start living life.

He went from being a slave to his business wallowing in “misery and despair” to creating a business that is very profitable and gives him free time to travel and to do the things he loves.

But of course a business is not just built on hustle and effort, but also experience gained over many years.

And this was certainly the case with today’s guest, as he started his career back in 2005 by exhibiting at tradeshows, working on marketing campaigns and preparing demo software for potential investors and clients.

Before working for three years at the Wilfrid Laurier University teaching students business labs part-time, whilst he worked on creating the monster.

So what did he do wrong which he knew that he had to change to create the freedom that he is living today?

And can he now point the way for everyone, or is every situation individual to the creator?

Well let’s find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots with the one and only born to be an entrepreneur Mr Matt Inglot

Today’s guest joining us on Steve Jobs inspired Join Up Dots free business podcast interview is a man who has a great mantra for life that really touches into what the show is all about

He believes that “Life is Soul, Simplicity and Security”

He believes that we should have a life that is not struggle, hustle

In fact he when he is asked what he does for a living, he typically replies with – “As little as possible.”

But what he actually means by that is he has found his sweet-spot that brings great value to his clients, and that he enjoys so much that it doesn’t feel like work.

He has a lifestyle of freedom and success.

And how many of us have jobs like that?

As founder and CEO of Platinum PLM, he creates campaigns for his clients, to regularly achieve six and seven figure results in just a few days.

He also helps his clients to improve all aspects of their online activities including: strategic positioning, product development, building database lists, forming JV relationships, creating evergreen business models, automating sales and marketing systems and diversifying income streams.

But at his core being of service to others and living with integrity are his key values.

So when you work with him you can trust him to care as much about your success as you do.

So how did he pull all these areas of expertise together to build a life for himself that is fun, playful and even allows him to jump on his surfboard as often as he can.

And is this something that starts with belief, or should we all just start doing anything and build the belief as we go?

Well let’s find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots with the one and only beach loving entrepreneur Mr James Klobasa.

Today’s guest joining us the Steve Jobs inspired Join Up Dots free business podcast interview is a man who has quite obviously got the entrepreneurial gene running through his body.

His career has been an eclectic mix of sales, coaching and inspirational content production which has lead him to where he is today.

He is the founder of Handshakin, a series of video based interviews with the successful and the movers and shakers across the word, and also the author of Handshakin Your Way to Entrepreneurial Success: How to Network and Become One of the World’s Leading Handshakers

But the interesting thing to me, is where he started on the path to where he is today.

Back in 2010 he worked for the Groove Automotive company in the greater Denver Area, where he knew right at the very beginning that the ability to make leads and turn them into sales, is never about the hard push.

Instead he knew that the key skill was connecting in the right way, and negotiating to the highest level he could.

Which was why he made sure that he attended all of the optional professional development seminars on effective negotiation and sales.

Greet with a smile, and of course a good handshake.

And so throughout his career, starting several companies, working in the real estate business, until he got to where he is today you can see the hustle, the drive and of course the ambition to do something different and make his mark.

So does he look back at the early days attending company courses as the true flag that shows where it all started?

Or is the idea of meeting with a good old fashioned handshake something that he can trace even further back in time?

Well let’s find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots with the one and only Mr Matt Holmes.

When we last met our guest on today’s episode of the Steve Jobs inspiring Join Up Dots free podcast interview, she was in the middle of experiencing some massive growth in her entrepreneurship.

Yes, in both her business life and her personal life she was smashing through the barriers.

Kicking over her self limiting doubts

And creating an amazing future for herself.

And she has taken her talents to the next level with the launch of the Art of Abundance with Leisa Peterson

This is a story that is long past the old leap of faith stage (although if you want to hear that episode then check back in the archive shows)

She has done this by asking great questions to her clients that flock to her like moths to a flame.

She asks “Are you someone who is burned out from working hard for many years yet afraid to step back out of fear of losing all you’ve gained?

Are your work obligations keeping you from having deeply meaningful relationships with your family and friends?

Do you feel stuck in a situation that takes everything you’ve got yet know there has to be more to life…an ultimate state of joy, satisfaction, and fulfilment.”

Now the interesting thing about her and what I want to discuss in this show, is whether she truly believed it when she first said it?

Did she fully embrace the power that an individual possesses in their day to day lives to create one that is remarkable.

Was it by doing the work, and seeing the results in her clients that she fully embraced the possibilities that she could create?

You see she has had three stages of success from working 22+ years n the world of finance, pouring herself into earning a high salary, collecting great bonuses and moving up the ladder.

Then after facing a major life crisis followed by several tragedies, she moved towards answering the question of could She ever have both inner fulfilment and outer wealth.”

And now after creating a successful coaching business, she has sold her long time home, moved to Hawaii, and now come back to Arizona and starting something new.

So with all this movement and action taking, how does she know that she is travelling the right course in her life?

How does she find the motivation to get up everyday and go through those dark days?

And does she get excited by the road she is travelling all the time, or are there still “Wow, I am so unsure of this” moments, lets just sit on the sofa and do nothing today times?

Well lets find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots with the one and only super entrepreneur Leisa Peterson

Today’s guest joining us Steve Jobs inspired Join Up Dots business lady who is content to wear many different hats everyday.

But unlike the rest of us entrepreneurs who also wear multiple hats, and can’t wait to get rid of them at the end of the day, she seems to thrive on pure entrepreneurship.

She is has many jobs, as she is a physician, surgeon, yoga health coach, author and overall health & wellness expert, today’s guest is known as The Holistic Podiatrist of Southern California and has been interviewed and quoted in many prominent publications.

One of her greatest strengths is her ability to combine the best of Eastern and Western medicine to treat the whole patient and create individualized treatment plans, yoga sequences, and meal plans for her clients and patients.

She believes that food is medicine and that yoga, and meditation are the keys to perfect health.

And I suppose being based in Los Angeles she is at the epicentre of what we consider the home of healthy lifestyles and celebrity glamour.

So does she find that the pressure to look and feel like a million dollars actually causes people to go about it the wrong way?

And how does she overcome those days that we all have when she just wants to crawl under the duvet and eat a box of chocolates all by herself?

And what was the key thing that made her ultimately take the leap of faith and go it alone?

Well let’s find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots with the one and only super entrepreneur Dr Michele Summers Colon.

Today’s guest entrepreneur joining us on the Steve Jobs inspired top rated Join Up Dots business podcast interview, is a lady who is content to tackle something that so many people would have ignored, or left for someone else to do.

Tackling the worlds water and sanitation issues, and creating a lifestyle that is totally under her own control.

In 2014, her senior design team won the Georgia Tech InVenture Prize Competition, the largest undergraduate invention competition in the United States, for their design of an inexpensive mobile toilet, SafiChoo.

And along side her team at WishWash she has taken her specific design passion, and set out to improve women’s health by means of redesigning WASH infrastructure (such as toilets and menstrual hygiene products) in and for the low income communities of the world.

As according to UNICEF, 2.6 billion people lack hygienic sanitation facilities and 768 million people drink unsafe drinking water and, of these people, women and girls are disproportionately burdened by poor sanitation and water inequities.

Big bold movements towards a better way of living for so many people.

Success that is so much more than something personal.

But it wasn’t always plan sailing, and as she says openly “Over the past few years, I have struggled to find my place in the fight for social justice. I have always been angered by unfairness and injustices and, in the back of my mind, I thought that I would evolve into a radical and fearless protesting activist; however, when the time came for me to consciously take strides in defining my role in this space, I was paralyzed by fear and, quite frankly, embarrassment.”

She was trapped by smallness of thinking, and smallness of actions.

But unlike so many people she found her way through the issues and now is becoming more of who she was born to be.

She is an activist, a campaigner, and lady who loves to inspire and be inspired by a world that so many of us ignore on a daily basis.

So how did she first come up with the design, and knew it was good enough to persist with even when the obstacles came her way?

And looking back, was there a key moment that allowed her to stop acting small, and become the biggest version of herself she could be?

Well let's find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots with the one and only sanitation entrepreneur Jasmine Burton

Steve Jobs inspired all our guest entrepreneurs, joining us on the top rated Join Up Dots business podcast to look back on their lives.

Well today's entrepreneur ready to do just that is a man who is more than content to dive headfirst into a business and make it Zoom!!

You see he is a great believer that a company only finds true success and becomes the best it can be, by how good its individuals are.

So make the individuals great and guess what you get?

You got it, an amazing company, a fun place to work, and best of all making healthy profits.

A system that brings success to everyone.

As he says i have one simple state to find the motivation to do the work that I love.

I love people, and I love ideas.

But what I love most is helping people take their ideas and make them fly. It’s led me to a 20-year career doing business development in some very different industries. As the CEO of a global coaching business, I led a multi-year transformation of the culture and brand. I co founded a renewable energy company and a non-profit that taught meditation and yoga to at-risk youth.

Those jobs and my personal journey drove me to launch refound—to share the best of what I’ve learned in a way people can use. “

So what is Refound you maybe asking?

Well this is a great platform that shows all companies how to build the kind of culture that offers people a benefit that far exceeds any paycheck—the opportunity to become better at being themselves.

That is the kind of content that produces income like magic.

But of course all our guests do not find their thing straight away, and struggle through countless jobs, and it seems like our entrepreneur today has been exactly the same.

He started his education at New York University School of Law before entering into several different companies over the next twenty years.

So does he feel that he has found his thing, or is he still working on climbing up the right career ladder?

And how does he feel when he enters a business and see room after room of sad, dispirited faces?

Well lets find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots with the one and only entrepreneur and author, Jonathan Raymond.

Today’s guest entrepreneur joining us on the top rated Join Up Dots podcast is a man with content to have many plates spinning at once, not least agreeing to be appearing with us today.

He is an internationally known speaker, author, and business credit expert.

And when you hear him talk you can say that is also "Pure Motivation"

He is the CEO at Credit Suite where he created and continues to grow one of the biggest and most credible business coaching operations in the United States.

With a career based around 16+ years of financial experience, he is widely recognized as an authority in business credit building, business credit scoring, and business credit repair.

He has written content that has flown off the bookshelves of the world.

As the author of two popular books, Perfect Credit and Business Credit Decoded, but that little list tells you just a little bit of the story.

As although knocking it out of the park in conference halls across the world, his working life started in a very different position all together.

Back in 1994 you would found this wannabe entrepreneur starting his working career under the education of Uncle Sam at the Wright Patterson Air Force Base, in America helping recovering cardiac patients after open heart surgery.

So how did he transition from that point to being one of the people that business’s ask for when it comes to credit scoring?

Where did he find the motivation to become the best he could be in a totally new environment?

And did Uncle Sam give him the working practices that have allowed him to flourish, or has he got to the top despite of that fact?

Well let’s find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots with the one and only Mr Ty Crandall

Following the words of Steve Jobs today, is a guest entrepreneur that is a special man to have on today’s episode, which is the official 500th interview that I have recorded.

Not of course the 500th show we have released, but the 500th time that I have sat down with a mover and shaker to record an interview for the show.

And what makes it even more special is this guy was the first interviewee that I ever recorded with nearly two years ago.

Yes, the first piece of online content to come from the Join Up Dots conveyor belt.

Yep, when I was nothing more than a man with a dream to become a podcaster, with no profile, confidence, social platform, but a lot of motivation, then if it wasn’t for him agreeing to the podcast interview, then there was a good chance that the show wouldn’t be around today.

So send all your complaints to him as he could have nipped it all in the bud right at the very beginning

Now on that first episode we talked about how he had left the military with a desire to travel the world and create a business for himself on his own terms.

A business that would provide both freedom, motivation and income.

How he would sit on his bed in his baracks and start creating something that he could show to the world and be proud off.

But wow, hasn’t it all changed since we last spoke, as it now seems that not only does he have the belief in what he can achieve, but also the world does too.

As he is creating content, products, podcasts, books and income faster and faster.

Such as the Publishers’ Empire, a comprehensive publishing training program, community and book launch platform, which holds over 100 HD training videos, a private, 24/7 forum, weekly small group coaching, exclusive expert interviews with today’s top self-publishers, marketers, and more, copy-and-paste book marketing and sales scripts, dozens of book templates, and much, much more.

And those three last words are the key to his increasing success “Much, much more”

He is seeing the world differently.

He is acting differently

And he is playing to his super talents, and where he lacks, finding the super talents of others to deliver much much more.

So when did it really start to speed up and in the words of the comedian Steve Martin “He become so good that he couldn’t be ignored any more”

And when he looks back at the version of himself, sitting on his army bed, was he close to what he wanted to be, or is that now a distant version of what he now wants to become?

has he found the motivation that brings it al together?

Well let’s find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots for the second time with the one and only super entrepreneur himself, Mr Tom Morkes.

Today’s guest entrepreneur joining us on the top rated Join Up Dots podcast interview is a lady entrepreneur who has a brilliantly chaotic story, which in many ways mirror so many of our lives.

Things being thrown at us left right and centre, with many of these things not being the kind of things that anyone would have chosen, but in todays guest has helped her move forward to online success.

As she says “When Katrina hit, I was a mom of 6 kids under 10, in a dysfunctional, chaotic marriage — my husband is an alcoholic and wasn’t admitting that or dealing with it. Because I had lived down in that area for a long while and had been evacuated before (when it wasn’t necessary)  I opted to ride out the storm, until I was forced at the last minute, to leave. My husband was out of town at the time, so I and the kids literally left the house with only the clothes on our backs and a sack of dirty laundry I grabbed at the last minute.  No papers, birth certificates, SSN, toys, school books, NOTHING. From that disaster, I slowly began to rebuild my life, discovering peace through yoga. As I began to rebuild my self esteem I ended up getting certified, and am now a yogi. I dissolved my marriage when my husband refused to get help for his alcoholism, and I and the children are now living in a small West Tennessee town, happy and peaceful.”

Which is a life that could have derailed her, and had her playing the victim card.

Blaming her husband, her situation, or her kids for the life that she was living.

But she didn’t, and instead of playing the victim, she set out on a path of pure motivation, where she made choice after choice, decision after decision to change her future.

She did the tough stuff, the rough stuff, and the things that probably she wouldn’t have believed that she could have done.

She is now passionate about writing, yoga, travelling, public speaking and being a fabulous single mum to six super kids.

She has found the motivation to build a career around appearing on TV, on podcasts, and radio, and producing great content, showing the world how to be fabulous.

Her life is a sort of organized chaos, and she loves every minute of the craziness and is grateful for all she’s learned along the way.

So when did she make the decision to start making decisions and taking responsibility for her future and happiness?

Creating the success in her life that she deserves.

And is it something that she only managed, because she was used to dealing with hardship and obstacles?

Well let’s find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots, with the one and only Jennifer Williams-Fields.

Today’s guest entrepreneur joining us on the top rated Steve Jobs inspired Join Up Dots podcast interview is a lady who is a complete rockstar.

Not in the get up on stage and grind it like Tina Turner type of rockstar or perhaps she does that in her spare-time.

But the kind of rockstar that can make your marketing, jump out of the page, like Mick Jagger on speed.

As she says “I can take you from “I don’t know” or “This doesn’t work” or even “I’m not having any FUN with this!” to “My Marketing ROCKS!”

Which is of course a very confident statement to make, and one that works on every level.

So who is she?

She is the former Marketing Manager for Glazer-Kennedy Insider’s Circle – whose first sales-letter generated nearly $9,000.00 in less than 3 days to a list barely over 200 people.

Her copy and marketing strategy contributed to a campaign that generated over $1 MILLION at an international event attended by more than 1,000 people.

And that is the kind of online content that anyone would want to know about.

As she says “When I began working for Dan Kennedy and Bill Glazer in 2007, a whole new world was opened up to me in terms of marketing. I’d always paid attention to advertising, and I always had a strange addiction to infomercials, but I never could have imagined that my life would begin revolving around all things marketing, all the time.

I studied Psychology, English and Creative Writing in college – never once suspecting that perhaps I was setting myself up for a career in marketing. I always just loved the English language and the way words could be used to accomplish so many things… and in my Psychology classes, I was learning what made people tick.

Now I have the great pleasure of taking the things that I love and doing them for money! I am very content to figure out new ways to make people buy things and it’s quite rewarding to know that my words helped someone increase their bottom line and benefit their bank accounts.

I really do have the best job in the world.”

So what is the difference between creative writing, and great marketing copy?

And does she see that this was something she learnt, or was always in here in some degree?

Well lets find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots with the one and only copywriting entrepreneur Alyson Lex.

Steve Jobs created the format of the show and today’s guest entrepreneur joining us on the Join Up Dots free podcast interview is a man who has a fascinating story that isn’t very often talked about.

But fits perfectly into the words of Steve Jobs.

It is so common in the world that there should be herds of similar guys connecting with each other and supporting each other, but I’m not sure that they do.

Let’s tell you how it all began……

“In The Beginning: All throughout his early teens he suffered from social anxiety. Going out and doing normal, everyday things such as going to the shopping centre or travelling on a busy train felt like a huge stress.

He remembers being around large groups of people feeling really nervous and anxious and just wanting to run away and be alone.

But he knew that this was not something that he could just ignore as it really affected his entire life.”

So he started to take action and the manner that he confronted his fears and then built a whole business around it was remarkable.

Instead of sitting in his room allowing life to pass him by, he found a mentor who seemed to just make relationships happen like magic.

But of course there is no such thing as magic, and little by little he started to realise, especially in regards to talking to women what he was doing wrong.

As he says “I decided that I would no longer hit the nightclubs and would drop all the pickup lines and routines. It was time to return to the streets to find a girlfriend and just work on being myself and allow my conversations to freely flow in whatever direction they would naturally go.”

Gaining confidence in his new found skills he started going out on the streets of London, filming his interactions for fun and posting them on Youtube.

He began his journey towards amazing online content creation.

Not just his successes, as he also added the process of filming, monitoring, and allowing all the mistakes he was making shown to the world, slowly fine-tuning them for better results.

His channel started growing slowly and his video content caused stirrings within the London dating world as many believed that being ‘a natural’ was not the way to go.

Be he had found the type of dating advice that works so ignoring this, he stayed strong and continued to push his beliefs which eventually led to inspiring a large platform of guys to take action.

So how has he taken this momentum and built a business around it?

And is this something that has truly tapped into who he is, or is that nervous anxious individual still lurking under the surface?

Well lets find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots with the one and only UK dating entrepreneur Johnny Berba.

Today’s guest entrepreneur, following the words of Steve Jobs on the top rated Join Up Dots podcast interview, is a business author, consultant and speaker, who is out there on the coalface, helping companies become better and better.

He's whole career is based on one word and one word only "Best" and i guess we can expand that to "How To Be The Best"

His client list reads like an international Who’s Who in business, ranging from companies like Proctor & Gamble and Coca Cola to Cadillac and American Express.

Joe also works extensively with small to mid-sized business groups including franchisees, medical practices, law firms, and a range of professional services groups.

Now what I love about this guys is his motivation and personal belief that we should all aim to WOW every day.

He has an audacious business strategy that leads to amazing success: Be The Best At What Matters Most:

As he says “In a tough market it’s tempting to look for shortcuts.

Reality check: there aren’t any shortcuts.

The one business strategy that creates and sustains success is to be the best at what matters most. What an audacious idea – to outperform the competition on those things that create real value for the customer.

There’s a lot of talk about surprising the customer with “wow” factors.

That’s all well and good, but the ultimate and most powerful “wow” factor is to deliver on your promise every time, with every customer, with amazing consistency.

And in a world of entrepreneurial ventures, over delivering for your customers can take you a long way, but over delivering against what you believe you can personally deliver will take you even further.

So where did he start to have such an amazing mindset, that translates so well in the boardrooms and conferences centres of the world?

And how did he brand himself to start being recognised as an online expert that solopreneurs, entrepreneurs and even business owners all look to to help them push their own businesses higher and higher towards success?

Well let’s find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots with the one and only Joe Calloway.

Steve Jobs was a huge inspiration to all of us on the show, not least todays guest entrepreneur.

Today’s guest entrepreneur joining us on the top rated Join Up Dots podcast interview is a man who I connected with awhile ago, and quite simply have watched him flourish in a very short time.

He is a man who is taking bold, and some might say unusual action in a very unusual setting leading to astonishing success.

Studying at University, he left with qualifications in Accountancy and a desire to get into a solid, reliable firm and work his way up the corporate ladder.

Haven't we seen those same ideals demonstrated on so many of the Join Up Dots interviews over he years?

Well, it wasn't too long into his career when a life crisis led him from a professional life within an international auditing firm to the Peruvian Amazon jungle to work with shamans in a quest for healing.

Yes, amazingly he no longer commutes with a briefcase and a suit, he now takes groups of people down into the rainforest for trips with the Shamans, to gain enlightened spirituality and healing.

Now, I have spoken to him before hand and advised that Join Up Dots is not about woo woo, but it is about the average person living an amazing life.

So no stories that are too out there (although he did tell me a brief story, which was sooo out there, that we will have to try to bring it onto the show)

But he has built an amazing life by learning first-hand how to overcome fears, how to tackle huge challenges, and how to up-skill quickly to ensure his rapid progress.

So what was it about the accountancy world that didn't light his fire once becoming part of the number crunching game?

And did his friends show concern, when he said "I'm quitting this job to go to the Amazon and find myself?"

Well lets find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots, and start discussing creating perfect jobs, with the one and only entrepreneur Mr Pol Cousineau.

Today’s guest entrepreneur following the words of Steve Jobs, on the top rated Join Up Dots podcast interview is a man who has been on a terrible journey to get to where he is today.

At least in my perspective it looks that way, but perhaps in classic Join Up Dots fashion perhaps it was all these things that were needed to be experienced to make him who he is now.

To build his current level of business success from nothing to amazing.

As he says in his own words ” As a small boy I had been violently and repeatedly raped from the age of three to around eight years old.

Which left me feeling completely empty.

So full of shame, it was incredibly difficult for me to feel safe or trust anybody at all.

In fact, to deal with this trauma, my brain almost split into multiple personalities so that I could detach and protect myself when I was being seriously abused.

As you might imagine, I turned to drugs and alcohol to mask the pain, trying drugs as early as seven years old.”

By his late teens and early 20’s, it had gotten so bad that he was in and out of jails, institutions, halfway houses and he ended up homeless, and living on the streets.

He was failing at everything, his entire life was a mess and after all he’d been through, he had every reason to hate the world.

But he finally realized if he didn’t change, he was going to die.

This is when he developed a simple mindset shift that changed everything.

He realized that for a long time it was his mindset that had been the biggest problem he faced.

In that one moment, he changed his very identity, and what happened next was incredible.

And that is where we will begin today’s episode, and this is going to be a great one, as today’s guy has since seen incredible success, and is literally changing the world everyday.

So does he see that the things he spends his days doing were always in him, or was it because of his history that he found the skills that he loves sharing?

And does he feel that the mindset people have is the number one reason why so many keep themselves small?

Well lets find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots with the one and only Mr Rob Scott.

Today’s guest entrepreneur joining us on the top rated Join Up Dots podcast interview is a man who believes whole heartedly in the power of words.

But not just using words that make us seem big and important.

No, he believes that the words that we should be seeking to use, are as he says in his own ways “The words which hold the most power for you are the ones which move you on an emotional level. If you and another person share the same Powerful Words, you will be connected to that person and they to you, even if they are a stranger. This book is about finding your Powerful Words and using them in whatever you do as you set out to help others in whatever capacity you choose. It is about telling your story, your personal truth. This is where your greatest influence resides.”

Now of course this concept of powerful content is not new to me, or should it be for any podcaster or media person, but what about the man in the street?

What use are these to him?

He has a lifestyle that he has created

Well, we find out during the show but one thing for sure today’s guest has many different occasions, on almost a daily basis where he performs as a a writer, speaker, podcast producer and personal coach for physicians and other professionals who suffer from burnout.

Also, he has enjoyed a career in medicine for the past 22 years as part of an office based family practice in Goldsboro, North Carolina, which has led him to give hundreds of lectures up and down the east coast to physicians, professional groups and the public on various topics such as physician burnout, addiction and recovery issues, hypertension, cholesterol disorders to name just a few.

So what is his passion in life, that is leading him towards bigger and bigger success?

Where does he feel that he ignites his true super talent and brings the most value to the world?

And out of all the powerful words he could choose, which would he say was his favourite?

Today's episode of Join Up Dots is not an interview with a successful guest entrepreneur poses the question of how much do you want something? And do you believe in your heart of hearts that you actually deserve the rewards you gain from your efforts?

Well we see it, time and time again that celebrities do very bizarre stuff to ruin their careers, when from the outside it looks like they have it made.

So why do they do this?

The reason is deep down they don't feel that they have put in the work that there success is bringing them.

They cant quite understand why they are earning such amazing riches, when other people are slogging their way through everyday.

So what we need is to get to the point when all our efforts leave us with the mindset of "Yes!! I Deserve everything you send my way"

And when you get to the point, you can then start to really push forward and become the best that you can be.

Which brings us even more success and riches.

Steve Jobs created the format that our guest entrepreneurs follow on the Join Up Dots free podcast interview, and todays guest is a man who is a top ranked boxing prospect and also Trinidad & Tobago’s boxing ambassador.

He is also is a sought after model who has been photographed around the world since the age of 17.

And when you see the photos ladies (and of course men too) that fact doesn’t come as a surprise.

He is building multiple careers, and has huge motivation to build a platform more than just a boxing career.

What does come as a surprise though, is this guy, with a highly tuned competitive streak was so obviously looking for the non-obvious route that could fulfil his dreams.

Growing up he was involved in a variety of sports.

He loved soccer, basketball, football, baseball and swimming and at just 10 years old started playing basketball and continued playing throughout college.

At 16 he was already a certified lifeguard and a highly recruited athlete in multiple sports.

In his senior year of high school he was recruited to play basketball for several NCAA Division 1 and 2 schools.

Now this is when one of the big twists occured in his life, or as we say he hit one of his big dots.

College proved to be quite a defining time for him, he started as a Kinesiology major, but after just one single acting course, he found that he had discovered his love and passion for acting and switched his major to Theatre.

It wasn’t long after this revelation that the acting gigs began pouring in.

He landed his first commercial and this was quickly followed by a well-known television ad with Nike.

Now he could have said “This is easy” and coasted a bit, but instead he set out to become the very best that he can be in this new found arena.

He started defining his craft, by studying at The Second City and Groundlings, schools who boast of alumni including Jim Carrey, Will Ferrell, Seth Rogan and Steve Carell.

He added to his training by studying at The Ivana Chubbuck Studio that has trained Hollywood’s elite such as Halle Berry, Brad Pitt, Terence Howard and more.

He knew if he was going to be the best he had to surround himself with the best that Hollywood can offer.

And now away from the acting he is training for the Olympics, and once again surrounds himself with the best by fighting out of the world famous Wild Card Boxing Club, home to superstar world champions.

So what has these diverse uses of his time and talents taught him, as he drives forwards with his ambitions?

And is better to become very very good at one thing, or be diverse as he has been up to this point?

Well lets find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots with the one and only boxing entrepreneur Mr Daniel Hayes.

My guest entrepreneur joining us on the top rated Join Up Dots free podcast interview is an entrepreneur, writer and business success.

He’s the #1 bestselling author of The Connection Algorithm and Hustle, as well as an original cofounder of PlayQ Inc.

He is a guy who is getting out there and flexing the old hustle muscle everyday.

Which is really impressive as there was a time that his future could have been so very different.

But this guy doesnt lack motivation and is simply inspirational as you will find out in todays podcast.

As he says in his own words “I grew up in a small suburb outside of Washington DC.

After surviving the public schooling system, I attended the University of Michigan, graduating four years later with a heap of debt and a flimsy certificate saying I wasn’t dumb.

Life after college was painfully dull.

Two years after graduation, I was bored to death, working at a consulting firm in New York City. So, I quit my job and cofounded a startup, which went on to generate millions of dollars. I worked there for seven years, but I was eventually fired for being (admittedly) combative and generally useless. Battling intense fear and self-doubt, I picked myself back up again and decided to write a book.

I’ve taken a lot of risks in life, succeeded at a few things, and failed at many―but the world has never let me down.

After each failure, I’m presented with new opportunities.

Along the way, I’ve met some incredible people who repeatedly support my endeavours despite my shortcomings.

I like that point of view.

No actually I love that point of view.

That is pure motivation on every level.

After each failure, I’m presented with new opportunities.

Because that is the truth, when you are developing an entrepreneurial venture, or going for the dreamlife you will fail often.

But through those failings you will learn, you will learn what worked, what didn’t work and where you need to focus your energies.

So what got him started when most people would have settled into the boredom and accepted their place in the scheme of things?

And how do you overcome those huge doubts right at the beginning, when you have no experience to fall back on, or fragile belief that things will work out in the end?

Following the words of Steve Jobs, my guest entrepreneur today on the Join Up Dots free podcast interview is a computer scientist, an electrical engineer, and has been an IT Industry management leader for the past 25 plus years.

Which sounds pretty standard stuff.

But Join Up Dots is not a normal show, and is about giving you guys ideas, and concepts that you can use to create great success in your own life.

Showing you what other people are doing, so that you can think “I could give that a go!”

Leading to careers of freedom and a lifestyle built around success and motivation.

Well today’s guest is bringing his passion for Yoga-principles, to his connections in the academic and corporate world.

He is getting all levels of management to have a go, and sit cross legged, and touch their toes.

He has brought Yoga to the Tennis courts, executive board-rooms, mental health facilities and senior centers.

He has been an ardent student of Yoga since 1984, and has had formal Yoga training from various renowned institutions and teachers in India and the US.

But what I love about this guy is the blending approach.

He isn’t saying this will work, take it or leave it.

But he is saying let’s try this, and see how it goes.

And from his leadership talks, yoga sessions, or even his laughter therapy he is taking his experience of how the corporate world works, and is building something very different.

So was his starting career in Sales and IT the perfect place to begin his journey, or has it actually held him back to where he deserved to be?

And is it getting easier to convince the boardrooms of the world, that a bit of the downward dog is a great thing to bring in for the employees?

My guest entrepreneur today following the words of Steve Jobs, on the top rated Join Up Dots free podcast interview is the host of the As Told By Nomads podcast, and a man who has been on the show once before, and to be honest he was so good that it is a crime that he hasn’t been on since.

So what can we tell you about him?

Well this guy is pure motivation from the moment he wakes up to the moment he closes his eyes, exhausted at the end of the day.

He doesnt just have one career, but is dealing with so many jobs at one time its amazing.

He has a dream to not just improve his lot, or that of his clients, but he is taking on the world.

He wants to bring the four corners of the globe together to provide the education that will teach people to accept our differences, both physically and culturally.

Growing up in Sweden, Burkina Faso, Nigeria, Vietnam and the United States, he considers himself a true citizen of the world.

He wants to celebrate uniqueness and encourage diversity, build global mind-sets, tell stories about culture and most importantly to educate the world about the beauty in all of us and how we can work together to improve our global identities.

And quiet simply when he was first on the show, you could sense the desire to get out there and do it.

But now he is doing it. Really, really doing it. And building greater and greater success in his life.

If you want an hour of inspirational content, to kick start your own career then let's bring this introduction to a halt, and find out since our first chat what has been creating the greatest satisfaction in his life?

And would he change things if he went back in time, or just move like a twig on the mighty stream of life?

being an entrepreneur and mastering entrepreneurship is one of the hardest things that you can do. Today’s guest joining us on Join Up Dots, walked away from her global marketing strategy role at Microsoft in 2012 after a successful 16-year corporate career spanning many industries to do just that. Become an entrepreneur of not and build a hugely entrepreneurial lifestyle

Now she shows business owners how to stop being the best-kept secret around and instead become a sold-out success.

Combining her proven business-building skill set with her ninja marketing skills, Michelle shows entrepreneurs, solopreneurs and small business owners how to build a steady stream of clients and profits for their business.

When she’s not working on her business, you can usually find her in the car taking one of her three kids to some sort of activity or at home cooking with her handsome and talented photographer/systems engineer/baker husband (his chocolate truffles + lava cakes are a-mazing).

As she says “In short, nothing I do is based on fly-by-night recycled fluff or the new “it” strategy. It’s based on real world experience I’ve gained over the past 18+ years.”

But of course there is so much more to this story than a lady deciding to go for it, and create an on-line business (not least how does she keep the weight off with chocolate truffles flying around the place).

So why did she leave a corporate gig that would have been seen as a successful one after sixteen years of climbing the corporate ladder?

And was it harder than she imagined to create that success on-line, or a walk in the park everyday?

When I started the top rated Join Up Dots podcast, it was important for me to bring to you different people, different conversations, and different varied skill sets.

And today’s guest is a man who firmly falls into the different skill set category.

He is a man who found the motivation to build a career as a Professional Name Analyst, which if you are like me, until recently would have meant nothing to me.

But it has lead to a life of freedom, entrepreneurial success and a best selling book.

As he says in his professional bio “There is nothing more important or fascinating to each individual than his or her own personal life. There is not one human being who would not master his own individual life if he could. Your documented names from birth shape and define your character, your personality, both your mental and physical health, for better or worse. More amazing, the second part of this system reveals how letters from each of your names rotate at predetermined years, influencing events and the way you live your life. Incredible, maybe, but true! Name Reality shows you how, why and what you can do. “

And I like that statement “Incredible but true”

And I am sure in this episode you will all start looking at your own names in a very different way.

So how did he discover this stuff, and did he embrace it straight off, or did it take awhile for him to realise that this was something that would change his life?

Today was one of those days that when you are working towards something make you sit up and notice.

Yes this morning I looked at our rankings on Itunes in the UK and saw that we had made a clean sweep across the board.

In the "What Hot" section we were at number one in Business, Education, Health and Careers which is remarkable.

And was the first time I had ever achieved something like that.

So without you guys this could never have occurred, as its only thousands of ears listening every day that can make this happen.

A BIG THANK YOU to everyone who listens to the show.

A BIG THANK YOU to everyone who tells their friends about the show.

And of course a BIG THANK YOU to everyone who leaves a rating an review of the show at iTunes.

Today’s guest joining on the Join Up Dots show is a lady who I first connected with several years ago, but never got a chance to properly say hello to.

Which is a bit of a regret, as not only is she a truly lovely individual but is also based in this little island of ours:

Yep, she is based in rainy Manchester in the United Kingdom and since working for British Telecom as a Call Centre Trainer has been on a mission.

A mission to develop employees everywhere to become the best that they can be, and find happiness whilst they are doing it.

And she certainly seems to now have found her thing, after as much struggle as everyone else

As she says “I’d love to be able to say I’m one of those people who is so super clever, I built a successful coaching business easily. But that would be a big. Fat. Lie.

I spent my first year as a coach taking every course I could get my hands on, which led to massive overwhelm. It became a patchwork quilt of information: a course on blogging, another for WordPress, another on podcasting, then copywriting.

But it wasn’t cohesive. I wanted courses to help me go step-by-step so I could focus on what I loved, coaching.”

And so how has she done it?

How has she managed to blend her years of being an employee into someone who is crushing it, but also being totally themselves…being happy in the process?

Well lets find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots, with the lovely Northern lass herself Jo Casey.

Today’s guest joining us on the Join Up Dots free podcast is a lady who like so many of us decided that she wanted something in life, and then found out that she hated it once it was achieved.

As she says in her own words “My lifelong goal was to be a manager. I hit the corporate fast track and became a manager in record time – and found out I hated it!

The long hours, corporate politics and endless budget meetings drained my energy and enthusiasm for life. What I really wanted, I decided, was a life where I could make my husband and kids my top priority – so I quit the corporate world to run my own business. I built and ran several businesses but something was still missing.”

That statement is so interesting to me on so many levels, which we will discuss on the show.

But our guest worked on living a life with status and prestige, but then changed direction.

So she became an entrepreneur which is the direct opposite to where she was and still it wasn’t right.

These decisions seem to be directed by her head, or her survival instincts, yet once she listened to her heart, and really listened to what the old blood pumper was telling her then it all came together for her.

And now she works with clients all over the world in such wonderful places as Holland, Belgium, Australia, U.K., Hong Kong and more!

She has coached and mentored hundreds of entrepreneurs helping them create 6 figure businesses and beyond.

Even achieving six figures in one day.

So does she look back at her career in corporate land and thank the gods that even though she was climbing up the wrong ladder, it still taught her the skills to build her own ladder and start climbing again?

And how does she balance this increased success with also being a Mum and Wife. Could she see a time when once again the ladder turns out to be wrong?

Today’s guest joining us on Join Up Dots is a lady who is known as one of North America’s foremost experts on performance success through thought mastery.

An executive coach and popular speaker, she works exclusively with highly driven, accomplished executives, leading entrepreneurs and high level professionals in their respective fields.

Working with high profile individuals who have already achieved success in some areas of their lives, she uses the unique Frame of Mind Coaching process to ignite significant change and life transformation.

What this means in a nutshell, at least the way that I see it, is she makes the successful folk realise that they are only at the point of success that they are allowing themselves to achieve.

Their thought patterns need to be changed or at least re-directed to allow for greater and greater achievement.

She provides a framework, she breaks down the ceiling that they are pressed against, to then build a clear sky to shoot up into.

As her clients say “I found that her coaching has reawakened the person in me that had been dormant for years. I had almost forgotten what it was like to feel alive”

So when did she first grasp this concept and was it like a angels singing, and a yellow brick road appearing like magic in front of her to follow?

And what steps can all of us take to be able to get going with Framing Our Minds for success?

Today’s guest joining me on the top rated Join Up Dots podcast show is a man who has a fascinating story, some might say a heroic story.

With the biggest smile you are likely to see he has found the motivation to overcome one of the most self limiting beliefs that anyone can have “That of self loathing”

As he says “At birth, I created a bit of a ruckus and lost oxygen in the process. As I grew, I developed a one-of-a-kind accent commonly called a speech impediment. Also as a kid, I had substantial coordination difficulties. For instance, in seventh grade, I actually threw a shot put backwards during a track meet!

I spent much of my life strongly disliking not being “normal.” At least I accomplished a good deal while feeling badly about myself, although, I wouldn’t recommend this type of motivation. I graduated college with a double major in English and Social Work. I earned a Master of Fine Arts in Poetry. And, for ten years, I worked for an organization that served people with developmental disabilities. This was an extremely rewarding job. On a daily basis, I was seeing the best in other people. Unfortunately, I was still often seeing the worst in myself.”

But of course, on Join Up Dots we aim to inspire and motivate, not to depress you, and our guest will definitely do that.

As little by little he found a way through his difficulties, to achieve the greatest breakthrough of all. He learnt to accept who he was, warts and all, and love himself.

And now a coaching business and a flourishing speaking career he is getting out there everyday, and leaving a trail of inspired folks ready to turn their limitations into extraordinary results.

So how did he start turning his life around, and is this a process that we can all follow?

And how is it possible to actually throw a shot backwards anyway?

Maybe you hate your dots and hate some aspect of your life and I know listening to David and I today has inspired you and given you actionable advice because we just finished chatting and *I’m* pumped up and ready to crush my goals and live my dream. *I’m* ready to live a life that I don’t have to take a vacation from.

But David stressed just taking that first step.

My guest today, on the Join Up Dots free podcast interview is an a man who is on a mission to help us all.

He has a passion for helping all of us to break free from what he calls "Solo Economic Dependancy"

Now if you have no idea what that means, then Solo Economic Dependency is basically this: If you’re not working, you not making money.

High-paid professionals, doctors, dentists, surgeons, freelance consultants, lawyers, accountants……people from all types of backgrounds find themselves in this predicament.

Lose the job, or be forced to take leave of absence, and you are forced to dip into your savings if you have them.

Well our guest believes that being put into that position is quite simply madness, and works on making money even when he isn't working……in fact, even while his sleeping.

As he says "That’s real financial freedom, and that’s something worth striving for"

So how has he managed to do this?

And are their strategies that all of us can implement that can start helping us break that one job dependancy?

Today's guest joining us on the Join Up Dots podcast is a man who was first introduced to me by Devon Bandison who appeared on the show way back on episode 108.

How told me that "If you wanted success, motivation and hustle on your show then this is the man to have!"

Gaining his education at Ursinus College he left with a Bachelors of Arts, Business & Economics, and set of into the big wide world with a dream.

And it seems to me that this dream at it's core, is about helping people become the best versions of themselves.

Helping them not only discover themselves, but build a business around them that flourishes.

As he says "In the past 4 years I’ve done everything from sell nearly $1m of clothes in a year while coaching CrossFit, to living the dream and build an online business for study abroad students while in Italy, to building the strategy for a 30 day $122k Kickstarter campaign.

It hasn’t all been pretty, but it’s been an incredible education that’s gotten me to where I am today. In my strategy coaching business, I help artists and entrepreneurs like you get started on and move toward their “South Pole Goals” by focusing on the tiny bits of heroism that, when repeated consistently, will make the biggest difference."

And that is the key thing to becoming who you want to be in life.

Taking small steps consistently, and realising that pretty won't come into the equation until much later on the journey.

And now from his hometown base in the Greater New York City Areahe is rocking and rolling and it seems being the version of himself that he was born to be?

So when things were not pretty how did he find the skills or education to change the future into one much more attractive?

And does he believe that anyone can do what he has, or does it take a special kind of person?

My guest today, on the Join Up Dots free podcast interview is a lady who for many years suffered with the age old question that we all seem to struggle with “What should I be doing with my life?”

On the outside, it was a question that didn’t seem to be required to answer.

She had a great job, a good-life, friends, a boyfriend…..most of our must have tick boxes were well and truly filled.

However deep down she had a feeling that there must be more to life than what she was experiencing.

This couldn’t be what she had been placed on this earth to experience.

So, within six months she had quit her job, and set about going after the life of her dreams.

She worked out what she most wanted to achieve, she wrote the lists, she worked her butt off, and she ended up doing something that she didn’t like.

As she says “Not every business is meant for you and just because others can make a go of it, doesn’t mean it’s your calling. It was a hard decision to make but I decided, it was time to let it go.

When I did that I felt a sense of relief. While I didn’t like the fact that I had just ‘failed’, I did feel relief that there was nowhere else to go but up.

Plus, my amazing dad had said to me at that time, ‘Jennifer, failure is like a badge of honour to an entrepreneur. What’s next?”

That was a big moment for me. It’s when I learned, and I mean intrinsically learned in all the cells of my being that failure isn’t bad. That failure is a part of growth and it can have a very empowering meaning if we allow it.

So where did this moment of relief and letting go take her?

And could she have to got to where she is now, without going though this period of her life?

Today's guest joining us on the Join Up Dots podcast is a man with many, different achievements, in many different fields.

All of them I supposed linked to taking the kind of risks that push you to the top of your chosen field.

His success is based around doing the things that he love, leading to the freedom of choice that we all want.

You can list that he is the founder of Riskology.co, the leading website for smart risk-takers.

He has run a marathon on every continent. Yep, including Antarctica.

Organized three world records and holds the title of the Adventure Czar for The World Domination Summit.

All good stuff, but when you tie it together with his core mission that he wants to help every person in the world improve their health, work, and adventures by taking smarter risks in their life then you can see he is a big thinker, and a huge problem solver.

He works with people helping them to push themselves out of their comfort zones, and developing greater security in their life, higher income earning possibilities and I guess loving the challenge of life, instead of going though the motions.

He's an independent entrepreneur who has founded 8 businesses, travelled to 25 countries, and ran a marathon on every continent to connect with the the world's greatest risk takers and adventurers and learn their secrets.

As he says "If the time is going to pass anyway, I want to spend it doing fun things with interesting people."

So did he always have that dream to change the big things in life. or did he discover this passion by accident later in life?

And how does he find the majority of people react when he proses an ever increasing risk taking in their lives?

Today’s guest joining us on the Join Up Dots podcast is a lady with not just a cool nickname, but also is someone that everyone in the online world needs to know.

Known as “One Click Lindsay”, today’s guest has become the go to person if you want to know more information about landing pages, email sequences, search engine ranking, newsletters, analytics, social media, pay-per-click ads, websites, blogging to name just a few.

She is a lady who loves to know the nuts and bolts that turns a business into a succesfull and thriving business.

Which means, she knows how to get customers to your business, and then convert them into super customers.

People who cannot resist your products.

And it seems in classic Join Up Dots style, this was a path that she was always destined.

As she says “Even as a young girl, I loved bringing a business to life and watch it grow.  Other girls wanted to babysit, while I worked out the percentage I could charge for getting them jobs and managing them.  A lemonade stand was not a “fun” way to waste a summer afternoon, it was a very serious business involving customer acquisition and profit margins. I was born an entrepreneur, and I believe you are either born that way or you’re not.  I see an opportunity, and I have no other choice but to create the business capitalize on that opportunity.  My husband, on the other hand, just wants a job (so I made one for him).

After years of struggling through being an “employee” I started Web Impakt, which over the last 10 years, I perfected (if I do say so myself). I’ve led my team to launching everything from simple web pages to enterprise level systems.  I’ve managed dozens of developers and designers, yet still have had to roll up my sleeves on a Saturday evening (after all, if you want a job done right, eh?).  And most importantly, I’ve gotten very good at generating traffic and leads, not only for my business, but for my client’s businesses as well.”

So being born to be an entrepreneur, does she feel that she had all the talents inherently that makes someone rocking and rolling, or has she still had to learn what makes someone successful?

And did she struggle at the beginning, or was it whooosh straight to the top?

Most recently he has 9 years’ experience at Oracle America, Inc.  building a successful Sales and Business Development organization of over 100 sales professionals.

He is a certified sales professional and also President of the American Association of Inside Sales Professionals Austin Chapter.

Which all sounds very grand, and I suppose less than unusual.

But it seems to me that it was the big decisions in his earlier life which were unusual and formed so much of what he does today and where he does it.

From the decision to move away from home in Belfast as a child and attend school in Scotland, to deciding to work in Japan where her met his now wife, he took on experiences and challenges bold and exciting.

But it wasn’t until attending a leadership development program at George Mason University and participating in his first triathlon that the spark to light his entrepreneurial journey truly began.

And the rest is history.

So why did this boy from Northern Ireland take such big steps as a child?

And has his journey been one, that when reflected upon was perfect and planned to perfection, or one made up of seemingly unconnected dots?

Well lets find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots with the one and only entrepreneur Mr Gary Smyth

Today's guest joining us on the Join Up Dots podcast believes in travel, more travel and then when she is finished and wants a bit of rest: Travel.

And this is not the pack your bags for two weeks each year, or for as many weekends as you can get, kind of adventure.

She is a believer that "Your life does not have to fit in a box. You don’t have to live behind the picket fence, slave away at that full-time job that sucks you dry, and the monotonous peak hour traffic runs.

You can have the picket fence and a job you love of course, but, we’re pretty sure you at least want to escape your everyday life for weekend getaways or a three-week vacation every year."

But what is the fascinating thing about today's guest, is how close she came to buying into the status quo that life seems to be lived by.

Settling into the routine or a life lived on other peoples terms.

After meeting each other, falling madly in love and then beginning a five year honeymoon as they travelled the world teaching English, things came to a halt

As she says "We returned home after the honeymoon and hit a major slump. This travel life we loved was over.

That thinking changed everything and before we knew it we were chasing money making schemes all over the world trying to get the riches we needed to keep travelling.

Let’s just say $500,000 and no self-esteem later we woke up."

"Why do we need to wait until we have the money to live what’s in our hearts? Why not just start with what is in the heart today?"

And with that thought, and I'm sure more than a touch of apprehension they set off on what has become their life, travelling, blogging and helping others to buy into the start the dream today mentality with their top ranked blog "Y Travel"

and now with two children in tow, their success, and ability to grab more experiences in a month than most of us have in a lifetime is assured.

So what was it about the nomadic lifestyle that had such a pull on them?

And is it something that they think everyone can do, or does it take a certain type of mindset?

Well lets find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots, with the one and only travelling entrepreneur herself Caroline Makepeace.

My guest today on the Join Up Dots free podcast interview is an man who is perfect for a show like this one.

As he made the brave decision a few years ago to leave his successful corporate gig and follow his heart.

He made the decision to set out to discover what would bring him personal satisfaction in life, play to his strengths, and then turn it into income by creating the Trademarked MIKE cartoon sports character.

MIKE is an animated microphone with a sharp wit, humorous turn of phrase, and the go to guy if your TV programme wants a different approach to interviewing live celebrities and sports figures.

But of course he is so much more than just a cartoon character, as within his small body he holds the dream, passions and future for our guest all rolled into one.

But like all guests today’s started his career as far away as is possible from where he is today, surrounded by the green grass, and bright lights of American sports stadiums and TV studios.

Beginning his career as the Corporate Merchandise & Import Manager for CVS & Rite Aid) he spent his time travelling around the Far East importing consumer electronic & personal care appliance merchandise, before later setting up his own company in Sweeney Sales inc.

He hustled, travelled and worked hard in an environment that seems from the outside a strange fit for this creative guy.

But maybe that wasn’t the case and this was the period of key learning that without it, MIKE the character could never have been born.

So was he always entrepreneurial in spirit, but truly needed that thing that played to his own creative side to get going in life?

And of course its great to have a fun and creative idea, but how do you keep the buzz when things don’t go your way?

Happy New Year to all of you!

If we could come round to all your houses on the beginning of a new adventure, yep a new year then we would.

Because without you all we wouldn't have achieved what we have personally achieved in 2015.

So what is it that you want to achieve in 2015?

Have you set the goals. Have you decided on which dream you want to go for this year?

Well David Ralph talks in this episode, how setting goals is a great thing to do but you shouldn't go for the big goals.

In many ways these are destined for failure.

Big goals are too much for us to achieve after the new year enthusiasm wears off.

He believes that we should simply start with very small goals, and by achieving them the incremental goals lead to something amazing.

But of course we don't.

We set off going for the gold, and upon the first obstacle we fall by the wayside and slip back into our old returns.

So what type of things should you look for, and where do you find the support you need to become amazing?

Well you will find out all the answers in this episode of Join Up Dots, and you might even get a little bit of Abba too!

Happy New Year to You All

Today’s guest joining us on the Join Up Dots free podcast is a man who calls himself a rockstar, and with very good reason too.

No he doesn’t strut around doing the Jon BonJovi return,or perhaps he does.

Instead is he is a rockstar in regards to his methods for money management, and can help us all get out of debt, save money and therefore retire at a young age.

As he says “I grew up in small town America and now live in the big city of Dallas, Texas.

I’m an early retiree who gets to work because I want to, not because I have to. If one of your goals is to do the same, I’m here to help.

My mission is to educate, empower, and entertain people from all walks of life by helping them experience real breakthroughs in their lives through hope and financial freedom.

My goal is to create insightful, relevant content that you can put to work simply and immediately in your personal life. ”

Now that all sounds amazing doesn’t it.

And what makes it even more amazing is this guy wasn’t born with an inherent skill to make money, keep money and grow his stash of cash

This guy was someone who as he says “I went from a money moron at age 22 to self-made millionaire 13 years later”

He has made huge mistakes in his past, but has learnt from them.

He has worked at filling in the gaps in his education to become a master of those mistakes.

And now with his platform, and newly released Podcast “Financial Rockstar” he is rocking and rolling and loving life.

So what was the moment when he realised that things couldn’t keep travelling on a one way journey to broke-ville?

And is this something that can be done easily, or is it a case of sacrificing every bit of comfort and niceties in your life?

Well let’s find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots with the one and only Mr Scott Alan Turner
