As we saw in the last part of the Steve Jobs biography, Steve had arrived at a crossroads in his life.
After his spectacular rise to the top with Apple, things had turned sour, and he was looking for something to reignite his passions and of course his fortunes.
He was still a very rich man, but for the first time in his life had the stigma of failure hanging over him. This was quite unfair in many regards, but as we see time and time again, the world likes nothing more than pushing a person to the top of the pile, and then delighting as they fall back to earth with the rest of us.
As the story goes, Steve Jobs had returned from one of his many business trips to Europe promoting the Apple II and met a very old friend of his, Nobel prize winner Paul Berg From Stanford University.
The two old friends discussed Bergs work, and it became clear to Steve Jobs that this could be the thing he was looking for. The reason to build a new company thereby restoring the Apple boards faith in him.
His friend told him about his work on DNA, and inquired whether the molecules could be simulated on computers. Steve told him No, but that didn't mean that it wasn't possible.
And those possibilities excited him greatly.
Instead of focusing in on the home computer market as he had previously, he would instead build a supercomputer for the higher education and scientific markets. He did his research as to the computer capabilities he would need, and became even more excited by what he discovered.
Steve Jobs, was reinventing the wheel and giving the world something that no one else could, and as we have already seen he was not short of ego, which is why there is no surprise that the idea appealed so much.
However, if Steve Jobs had gone further and researched whether the higher education and scientific markets would actually be interested in buying such a super computer, he might have had a very different reaction to the concept.
Hindsight as they say, is a wonderful thing.
He was still an employee at Apple, so enthusiastically informed the board of his idea. And on the 13th of September 1985 boldly described the vision he had for the computer, the company, and of course himself.
Everything went well at first, and the board sided with his enthusiasm, even willing to invest in the plans that Steve Jobs had presented to them. That enthusiasm however was short lived, when Jobs started detailing who he would take with him to the new company. This is when the board of Apple turned bitter.
He advised that he would go away with Bud Tribble, the first Mac programmer; George Crow, a key Mac hardware engineer; Rich Page, who had supervised almost all of Apples’ development; Dan’l Lewin, and Susan Barnes, an MBA in finance.
Steve Jobs had presented these people as “Low-level”, but it was clear to all that they were anything but. These employees were integral to the future progress of Apple Computers, and the board felt threatened. With no other option and determined to push ahead with his idea, Steve Jobs resigned from Apple.
Next Computers was born, and it did not start easily.
The minute it was created, the six co-founders found themselves sued by their former employer, Apple. The fruit company was accusing them of stealing their technology. As a result, for its first year or so of existence, the new company could not work on any product in particular, since there was a chance they would lose the trial and give all the technologies they had worked on back to Apple. This didn't phase Jobs at all, and in the meantime he set up to build the perfect company.
Building a new company from scratch needed huge investment which Steve Jobs for once had at his disposal. After his departure from Apple, Steve had sold almost all of his stock out of disgust. So by early 1986, he was sitting on more than $100 million. These were very different times from the earlier bootstrapping of Apple. He no longer needed to entice the investment of others to his new venture. This was going to be his baby. He was very much back in control.
Steve Jobs knew one thing and he did it better than most: When it came to recruiting he ensured that quality and integrity were at the top of his wishlist. He only recruited those individuals that were classed as extremely bright. Next even used to state that even their receptionist had a PHD, and one thing was certain, there was a buzz around silicon valley about this new start up. The hype was growing by the day, and Steve Jobs added more and more computer whizzkids, and extremely intelligent folk to the list of employees ready to create the next big thing in computing. Next appeared very much the place to be.
What made this remarkable was the company couldn't work on anything due to the dispute from Apple, and so were not making any income. The salaries, relocation, logo, equipment costs were all being paid out of Steve Jobs very deep pockets. Not bottomless by any stretch of the imagination, but being emptied at an astonishing rate.
Why did Steve Jobs do this? Was it to prove a point to his old employers, or was it to prove a point to the industry?
Whatever the reason it got him noticed and the word on the street was “look out he's on his way back!”
At the same time as this was all happening, the Star Wars legend George Lucas, came calling to enquire whether Steve's previous interest in his company, working within the motion picture industry was still alive. Steve Jobs had taken a huge interest in the work of the team at Pixar, and had even requested that the Apple board buy the company, but was refused.
But now with the value of the company being substantially less than he was once offered, he decided to take matters into his own hands and fork out for the computer animation team. Once again, whether this was a dig at his old work colleagues we don't know, but Steve Jobs paid £10,000,000 of his own money to buy Pixar as nothing more than an expensive hobby. His real passion was for the Next cube, the super computer that would change the industry, not for a group of budding artists trying to make splash in Hollywood.
It continued to be a very expensive hobby for many years, with him funding it solely something that he was reluctant to do with his bigger passion Next. He finally started to look for outside investors for that company.
Fortunately for Steve Jobs and Next, the Apple dispute fizzled out, and they could actually start getting to work. This occurred mainly by their lack of new creation. Holding back on working on anything new, appeared to be a very good decision
NeXT still didn’t have a business plan or concrete plans for its first product. Apple’s case was based on NeXT’s raiding of senior Macintosh executives and conspiring to use the confidential knowledge Jobs and the others had about upcoming Apple projects (like BigMac).
And that is where it faltered, Apple couldn't then pinpoint any specific trade secrets that NeXT had violated, because they hadn't. A week later, Apple came back with a list of twenty complaints but failed to demonstrate how NeXT had any plans against Apple.
The case proved to be a major embarrassment for Apple and just provided Next and of course Steve Jobs, with a great deal of free publicity: A true win win.
When we look back at Steve Jobs time working on The Next cube we can see quite clearly, two major flaws:
One was Steve's personal obsession with perfection. Everything from the typeface. to the casing had to be perfect. That perfection only made it a pain to build: from the perfect right angles to its materials to its color, it was extremely complicated — and therefore expensive — to put together.
In addition, Steve had made a point on also designing a “beautiful” board for the Cube. All the electronic components, which are usually on several different pieces of plastic, were melded on a single square board that the chairman Steve Jobs considered as beautiful as the case itself. However it was a strenuous problem for engineers to solve.
The costs escalated beyond anything that a school or higher education department could afford. Steve Jobs obsession with making it cutting edge and radically ahead of its time was to be its ultimate failure. He had built the technological equivalent of the Ipad thirty years too soon.
No matter which way they turned, Next and Steve Jobs hit a brick wall. And through all the twists and turns, delays caused the development of what had been cutting edge two years previously to no longer be seen as such. The competitors had quietly brought their cheaper and user friendly machines to market and had killed any escape route that Next had. Steve Jobs had fallen further from grace, and now was being seen as a liability instead of a maverick and technological genius.
Interestingly the forgotten hobby Pixar had started making some progress. Only small steps but enough for the people at Disney to take an interest.
In the early 90’s times were hard at Pixar, and the company had survived several threats by Steve Jobs to cut his losses and close the whole thing down. But for some reason or another, he still persisted with its vision.
Pixar failed nine times over by normal standards, but Steve didn’t want another failure to be placed on his resume, so he kept writing the checks. He would have sold the company to anybody in a moment, and in fact tried very very hard to do just that, but the bottom line was he wanted to cover his loss of $50 million.
In March 1991, he declared he would continue to keep funding it only if he were given back all of the employees’ stock shares. The scheme involved shutting the company down on paper, and creating a “new Pixar” where he was the sole owner. He also fired almost half the staff, keeping only the software programmers as well as Lasseter’s animation department — which was, by then, the only part of the company to bring cash in, thanks to its work in TV advertisement.
The hardware that the company had developed to enable others to create the same groundbreaking animation was classed as finished. Disney who had an investment in the company could never understand why they should be funding a system to teach others to animate. They controlled animation, and certainly wanted to keep it that way.
Nearly twenty odd years after starting the company, the team at Pixar were given a lifeline. After receiving a few awards, and even an Oscar for a short animated film, Disney gave them the greenlight to go for the big one…..a full length computer animated movie.
Steve Jobs negotiated a three movie contract with Disney, and arranged to keep 12.5% percent of ticket sales received. Little did he know, as he had limited experience in the movie industry, that he had made a very bad deal. But I suppose a bad deal is better than no deal, and after years of self funding the unit, he was about to see money at last come his way. Or so he thought.
Toy Story was put into development, and like all things in Steve's life, at that time, became a lot harder to get the product to the customer than he expected.
1993, was now upon us, and without doubt this was the year when everything that Steve Jobs had dreamt, worked on, and developed crumbled in front of him.
A year that many people couldn't have imagined happening ten years previously, when Jobs could do no wrong.
Whether Steve Jobs had dwelled on the same dark realisations we can only guess, but it was at an end. He was 38 years old and at his lowest point ever.
Next computers crashed around him.
It began in January 1992, when Steve Jobs made the decision to allow the advanced operating systems to be used in his competitor's machines. He had taken the view that the uniqueness of what he had created would need to be shared, if he had any chance of saving the company.
This was the first sign of the true failure to come for Steve, although many experts had the view that he should have done this from the very beginning. However Jobs was looking to create the system of all systems. The kind of processing speed that would leave all his competitors in the shade. Not to help them in their journeys also. The death warrant had been signed.
At the same time in an ironic retelling of a previous dot in Jobs life, things got even worse. COO Van Cuylenburg, who was hired by Steve Jobs, betrayed him in a cruel reminiscence of what had happened at Apple some seven years earlier.
Van Cuylenberg had phoned up NeXT’s competitor Sun, and asked its CEO Scott McNealy to buy NeXT and install him as manager of the new company getting rid of Jobs. Fortunately, McNealy had some sense of honor and told Steve about the outrage. Van Cuylenburg left, but Steve was completely devastated by everything that was going on around him.
How could this have happened?
How could all his hard work and investment end up in such a way?
How could it be that everyone of the company’s co-founders, except George Crow would abandon him.
He was Steve Jobs, the genius who had created an industry from nothing. A man who had lit up silicon valley and blazed a path across the world.
What had he done to deserve all this at once?
Next was finished, and in an even crueler twist of fate, his other venture Pixar was in serious trouble too. The lifeline that had been grabbed at when making the deal with Disney was slipping away from them. Disney's Katzenberg had seen what the company had created, and quite simply hated Woody, Buzz Lightyear and all the other characters which we now see as classics.
Together with the majority of Disney’s creative staff, he declared that the characters were unappealing jerks and the dialogues inappropriately cynical for a children’s movie (while he was the one who pushed for such characteristics early in development). Pixar was back to making TV commercials just so it could survive — but it was obvious it would disappear if the work did not start again.
Steve Jobs had reached the bottom of his career. He had lost faith in himself, and disappeared behind the closed doors of his home, spending most of his days at home, playing with his two-year-old son.
Was there anyway that Steve Jobs could fight back from such a low point?
Could he recoup his investment, his self esteem, and be allowed to create the legacy that he so craved?
That part of the story will only come on part four of the Steve Jobs Biography.

Entrepreneurs like todays guest joining us on the Steve Jobs inspired Join Up Dots free podcast interview, is Mr John Murphy, a man who from his core is a winner.
And best of all he likes nothing more than helping us all be winners too.
He lives in the South of France, but calls the world his office, as he works with individuals and corporations across the globe to make them improve their careers and see the opportunities they have all around them.
The opportunities that can bring wealth, success, and enjoyment into their worlds.
But this guy certainly didn't start with a global approach to business, as if we go way back you would have found him pounding the pavements, knocking on doors.
You see he began his career as a door to door life assurance salesman, but ended as the CEO of a Pan European Life Assurance Company in Ireland.
So he knows the hustle that it takes to not just start knocking on doors, but actually building his own doors.
The right doors, that can lead to a life of fulfilment, freedom, success, and a life of dreams.
He is now the owner of his own international company, and of course the host of the podcast 'Winning at Business & Life'
So how John Murphy, born and bred in Ireland break free from the surrounding conditioning of what is possible for a young man from Ireland?
And does he see the issues that he encounters with his clients, the same across the world, or is there geographical reasons that hold us back from achieving what we want?
Well let’s bring onto the show to start joining up dots, as we discuss the words of Steve Jobs on todays free podcast with the one and only super entrepreneur Mr John Murphy

Todays guest, joining us the Join Up Dots podcast interview, is Christine Hassler, a lady that for so many people would have been considered a success in her earlier life
A life that appears from the outside glamorous and stimulating
She was an agent in Hollywood, California....yep, she worked the land known as tinseltown for the Artist Management Group and was on a path that seemed set.
At least from the outside.
But inside her that path was most definitely not set.
That path was leading Christine, away from this sought after position to take her into the unknown and into a world of fear and doubts.
At the age of 25 she left this job, and set out to find the true thing she knew in her heart of heart she should be doing.
And as she sought for what she needed to do in life, she discovered that so many people she met had those same insecurities and frustrations that life was slipping away from them too.
And with the publication and success of her first book in 2005, "20 Something 20 Everything" she touched a nerve in her readers and herself.
And her future started to reveal itself.
Now as a professional speaker, Christine Hassler, leads seminars and workshops around the country, and is a sought after expert appearing on TV and Radio everywhere on the subject of discovering the answers to the questions: “Who Am I, What do I want, and How do I get it?”
So how did she end up in Hollywood where it seems so wrong now on any different levels?
And how do people begin to answer that question "Who am I " when for their whole life they have allowed people to tell them what they are.
Well lets find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots with the one and only Christine Hassler.

"Steve Jobs persisted, he had this incredible tenacity. He held on and came back with triumph after triumph, driving the company to new heights, creating the greatest corporate success of our time. It's a unique story."
Jobs basically had created his own team to create his own product, the Macintosh. His team actually having its own building. He even flew the pirate flag there.
“It freed me to enter one of the most creative periods of my life; I’m pretty sure none of this would have happened if I hadn’t been fired from Apple,” Jobs said. “It was awful-tasting medicine, but I guess the patient needed it.”
And what came next, was NeXT.

There are many things that will surprise you from a Steve Jobs biography.
We all feel that we know the man well.
We have read the stories of success, heard the tales of peculiar behavior and used the products that the man left behind.
But what you will find when you start researching Steve Jobs, is a man who I don't think anyone will truly understand.
A man with so many layers of personality, and distinct characteristics, that we all had the potential to see the type of person that Steve Jobs wanted us to see.
So where do we start on the Join Up Dots take, on the Steve Jobs Biography?
Well we can clearly see on the Join Up Dots timeline, that Steve Jobs was from the moment he was born looking for identity.
Steven Paul Jobs was brought into the world on the 24th February 1955 in San Francisco California, by two students of the University of Wisconsin, who for whatever reason felt that this new born boy, who would grow up to become the king of techonology, was not theirs to keep.
Joanne Schieble and Abdulfattah "John" Jandali, played such an amazing part in bringing this child to the world, but would also play such a small part too, and gave the young Steve Jobs up for adoption shortly after birth.
And this was one of the dots in the Steve Jobs biography that Steve spoke so candidly about in 2005, when he addressed the graduating students on Stanford in a commencement address that has become a firm favourite to the world.
Not least becoming the basis of what became the theme behind the show “Join Up Dots with David Ralph”
The Steve Jobs Biography is a fascinating tale of clearly defined dots that shape what he was going to become right from the start, which would make it fascinating if we could ever go back in time and show the young Steve Jobs the steps that he should take.
Would he follow them, or would this young child with such a fascination for technology, and understanding of the components that made early electronic devices work, listen?
Well probably not, but you can see in the Steve Jobs biography those dots were clearly working in his favour right from the start.
His adopted parents lived in Mountain View California, which would fortuitously become what is known as silicon valley in later years, planting the budding entrepreneur in the centre of where he would later go on to rule.
His father, Paul Jobs who worked as a Coast Guard veteran and machinist, also had an interest in electronics and would show his young son from the confines of the family garage (the birthplace of Apple) how to take electronic devices a part, and then have the confidence to put them all back together.
Paul Jobs could have had fishing as a hobby, but once again the Steve Jobs biography shows that the skills that he would later utilize to such astonishing success were laid before him.
Yes of course, he needed the interest and persistence to make these skills work, but Steve Jobs was nothing but tenacious when that interest was in evidence.
A completely different Steve Jobs, to the one we would see throughout his career when he was bored, or things didn't quite go his way!
And those opposing, and not so dynamic and conscientious personality traits, were more than evident to everyone during his schooling. Steve Jobs was an innovative thinker. He could see things long before most people had started to even consider there was even something to be seen.
Which meant that during school, he struggled with the confines of formal schooling, and the structure of his lessons which as we all know, more often than not are anything but innovative.
The young Steve Jobs, would attempt to keep himself entertained by playing pranks and creating mischief, even once being bribed by his fourth grade teacher to get his head down and study.
But there was no getting away from the fact that being born to two University graduates had provided him with the genes of intelligence. And school tests, even from a boy who had little interest in the work were a breeze. He would sail through the testing with such apparent ease that the school administrators were keen to push him ahead to High School, which his parents were reluctant to sanction.
So already at school age, the Steve Jobs biography shows that we have a child who is living smack bang in the middle of the soon to be formed Silicon Valley, had an interest in electronics, possessed an innovative and questioning mind, and was born in 1955.
And this last fact is probably one of the most interesting of all, as Malcom Gladwell attested to in his bestselling book the Outliers” in the chapter “Timing Is Everything”
Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen was born in 1953, Apple founder Steve Jobs in 1955, Sun Microsystems founders Bill Joy and Scott McNealy in 1954, Bill Gates in 1955.
Which made them the prime age when the first do it yourself home computers came to market in 1975.
Old enough to see the potential, and risk their futures by working on what someone already established in a career in computers would consider too much a risk to take on.
But not old enough to be already settled down with children and responsibilities, frightened to take the leap of faith and risk what they had already gained in life.
All of them fascinated with what was in front of them, and on their own paths to becoming household names in computing, making them richer than anyone could hope to be.
So we are building quite a list of dots on the Join Up Dots timeline, and of course the Steve Jobs biography.
We can now add perfect timing of his birth, to the perfect location, an interest in electronics, questioning mind, and a passion to go against the norm.
We can almost see already, the Steve Jobs that we would see a few years later, in the young man huddled over a box of wires and fuses.
But no matter how inspired and intellectual a person is, they will need the support of others.
And Steve Jobs found this when he was introduced to Steve Wozniak, who became his future business partner.
The two hit it off straight away, and as Wozniak spoke about in a 2007 interview, it was obvious from the start that the two had similar outlooks and passions. Passions that back in the early years of the 1970’s very few people had.
As he says “We both loved electronics and the way we used to hook up digital chips. And very few people, especially back then, had any idea what chips were, how they worked and what they could do. I had designed many computers, so I was way ahead of him in electronics and computer design, but we still had common interests. We both had pretty much sort of an independent attitude about things in the world.”
And that was how Steve Jobs life was throughout High School. Limited interest in what was happening within the education system, but along with Wozniack fascinated and consumed by the potential outside its walls.
And now in the Steve Jobs biography we arrive at that definitive time in his life.
The definitive time in everyone's life. They are now ready to go out into the world as young adults and create their own paths.
Would Steve Jobs follow the course that so many people follow and play it safe, getting a job just because it's money in the bank, following in the footsteps of his father, or would he strive boldly into a new future, and create his legacy.
Well surprisingly Steve Jobs did neither, and even against a background off disinterest in studying and education, Steve Jobs enrolled in Reed College in Portland Oregon.
This appears a decision that was not well thought out, as Steve Jobs quickly realised that he wasn't suited for further education and made the decision to drop out of college and do his own thing.
And that thing was to start attending classes that he thought would be interesting.
He would choose classes to attend, just because he was intrigued by their content, not because how they would look on his resume.
One of those classes, as Steve Jobs recounted once again in the Stanford Commencement address changed his life. The course was in calligraphy, and developed the love of typography that he brought to the world in such a dramatic and successful way with his first foray into the home computer market.
As he said to the students hanging on his every word on that day “None of this had even a hope of any practical application in my life. But 10 years later, when we were designing the first Macintosh computer, it all came back to me. And we designed it all into the Mac. It was the first computer with beautiful typography. If I had never dropped in on that single course in college, the Mac would have never had multiple typefaces or proportionally spaced fonts. And since Windows just copied the Mac, it's likely that no personal computer would have them. If I had never dropped out, I would have never dropped in on this calligraphy class, and personal computers might not have the wonderful typography that they do. Of course it was impossible to connect the dots looking forward when I was in college. But it was very, very clear looking backward 10 years later.”
In 1974, the Steve Jobs biography shows, what you would think was a great starting point to his career as a computer genius, and the young Jobs accepted a position with the promising and innovative games company Atari, as a video game designer.
Atari would go onto to dominate the home games console market in the late seventies and early eighties, with children across the world clambering for one of these wooden boxes that they could plug into their television sets. The demand was astonishing.
But Steve Jobs would not play a big part of the success of the company, as just six months later he quit, to go and find himself by traveling the huge continent of India, high on drugs most of the time.
When he did return to the United States of America it was now 1976, Steve Jobs was twenty years old and about get serious about what he saw the future of home computing to be.
Alongside his friend Steve Wozniak, still spending hours and hours inside the Jobs family garage, they would create what would grow to become the most valuable company on Earth.
The two friends set to work experimenting with the knowledge that they had fostered, more often than not unknowingly throughout their lives.
The hours spent fiddling with chips, and electronic circuit boards as a hobby, now finding its true importance in their lives.
Which is of course one of the truths of every episode of Join Up Dots.
Perceived failures, or what seemed like pure time wastage can later on turn out to be the holder of the very thing that you are looking for.
And that was certainly the case with young Mr Steve Jobs.
However greatness does not appear without a belief and a willingness to take risks. And the Steve Jobs biography is littered with incidents where he seemed to have the desire to go further and quicker than anyone else around him would consider acceptable..
Selling his Volkswagen bus, whilst his friend Wozniak sold his beloved scientific computer they funded their fledgling enterprise, and began to work changing the world. Empowering every home to believe they could posses their own computer, which several years previously would have been thought an impossible dream.
With Jobs in charge of marketing— Apple, which they decided to call their untested enterprise, initially marketed the computers for $666.66 each. The Apple I earned the corporation around $774,000. Three years after the release of Apple's second model, the Apple II, the company's sales increased by 700 percent, to $139 million.
Not bad for two guys, who just three years before were unsure as to which direction their future would go.
However this was simply the beginning of what Apple was to become and in 1980, Apple Computer became a publicly traded company, with a market value of $1.2 billion.
By the end of its very first day of trading, and buoyed by its success Jobs looked to find someone with the business acumen and vision to drive the company to even greater heights, and made the decision to bring marketing expert John Sculley of Pepsi-Cola in as the President of Apple.
A decision that among all the decisions made in the Steve Jobs biography was as bad for Steve as it could possibly be.
A decision that would bring Steve Jobs to one of the lowest points of his life, being told to leave the company he had founded.
Steve Jobs was sacked from Apple.

Todays guest joining us on the Join Up Dots podcast is a man who from his hometown of Calgary Canada, is on a mission similar to most of our guests.
In fact it should be the mission that everyone of us who listen into Join Up Dots should be on everyday.
He is committed to studying, understanding and helping others achieve more, in less time.
If you want to better your life, your career or business, and of course your results, then there is no better way than to focus in on the needs of others.
As the late Zig Ziglar once said, "You can have everything in life you want, if you will just help enough other people get what they want" which seems to be a great principle to live by, and is certainly working for todays guest.
And so for nearly two decades, he has travelled and advised people from across the continent and around the globe, from Fortune 500 leadership teams, to high achievers from all walks of life.
So how did he know that he could see a problem that had been anchoring people to the future they were not keen on, and blow it to pieces?
And does he find that he still has many of the issues that his clients have, but has managed to work to reduce them, or does he still carry around self limiting baggage?
Well let’s bring onto the show to start joining up dots, as we discuss the words of Steve Jobs with the one and only Shawn Shewchuck

He is an author of the book “The Ties That Bind”, the founder and President of Strategic Living Institute, Brian A Holmes Ministries and the Strategic Leadership Forum, where he inspires everyone to find that thing that we were put on this earth to do.
He even has his own weekly podcast, that bind it all together.
As he says “Success is waking up in the morning and bounding out of bed because there’s something out there that you love to do, that you believe in, that you’re good at – something that’s bigger than you are, and you can hardly wait to get at it again.”
So how long did it take Brian Holmes to find the freedom ill this way?
And is it a process that we can all learn, or do people more often than not stumble unknowingly into the path that they should be taking?
Well let’s bring onto the show to start joining up dots, as we discuss the words of Steve Jobs with the one and only Mr Brian Holmes.

John Lee Dumas is an inspiration to many people across the world, who hear him talk on a daily basis with entrepreneurs, businessman and the movers and shakers of the world.
He is the host of the award winning daily podcast, Entrepreneur On Fire, which since its birth back in September 2012, has lead the way in what can be achieved in the world of podcasting.
John Lee Dumas podcast interviewJohn Lee Dumas was not the obvious choice to become the man behind the mic, but as we always see on Join Up Dots, when you look back over the life of the person, you can see how the dots join up clearly.
And this is certainly the case with John Lee Dumas.
John Dumas was born as he says in his own words “A simple country boy from the State of Maine” and throughout his childhood was a child who was an extremely active and popular child.
The son of a preacher man, John Lee Dumas, or John Lee as his parents called him liked nothing more than hitting the school playground everyday, and indulging in kickball with his mates.
And growing up in a state where his childhood years were spent on lakes in the summer and ski mountains in the winters, it is with little surprise that when his childhood years had past, he didn’t actively seek a job behind a desk, which is where you can find him much of the time working today on Entrepreneur On Fire, but instead went for something far more active.
Active in body, and active for his country, as in 2002 he entered the military and for the next eight years, John Lee Dumas performed the role as Captain, and Armor and logistics officer for Uncle Sam.
And this is one of those dots on the Join Up Dots timeline, that helps pinpoint the success of Entrepreneur on Fire.john leed dumas podcast interview
Whilst in the military, John Lee Dumas was trained in structure, planning, organisation and effectiveness, all brilliantly useful as a soldier, but equally useful as a high flying Entrepreneur.
So many people point to the success of his seven day per week podcast Entrepreneur On Fire, and ask how can you record so many episodes and not burn out?
Which John Lee Dumas quite candidly will point out, is down to the skills that he learnt during his time in the armed forces, which he has utilised to such brilliant effect with Entrepreneur On Fire and his other income producing business spin offs.
An interesting fact about John Lee’s time in the military was that he became the first platoon in America to perform a tour of duty in Iraq, during the conflict there in the early two thousands.
For thirteen months, he worked tirelessly supporting his platoon, and building up his commitment to the task, until it was time to say goodbye to Captain John Lee Dumas, and say hello to the civilian version, that was to become anything but as effective as his previous incarnation.
The transition from the military was not an easy one to perform, and John Lee Dumas points out in his own words, that he was searching for something that could replace the self worth that he had felt previously.
As he says “My transition was brutal and different compared to others’. I thought I had everything mapped out. My father is a lawyer so I immediately thought that law would be a great profession for me to move into. I applied to law school and got accepted for the fall of next year. Before that I knew I would spend the year traveling. What I should have looked at people out there in the civilian world who were veterans and non-veterans that were actually doing things that inspired me. I should have tried to find out how I could have learned from these people. I wish I turned it in that direction.”
So in those words we can already see the makings of the John Lee Dumas podcast king that we can see today.
Before Entrepreneur On Fire was even an idea to be hatched, he was looking for structure, organization, and the ability to inspire and be inspired.
He was prepared to ignite, although at that stage John Lee Dumas was still looking in completely the wrong direction to find that spark.
Interestingly across the world, there is a similar path to how we live our lives, and it has become very much a theme of Join Up Dots.
When growing up we get told what to do, by parents, teachers, mentors, scoutmasters, the list goes on.
And so it’s with little surprise that the time comes for us to make a decision as to what we want to do with our lives, and we have no idea.
How can we know, when for the first twenty years we have barely made a decision for ourselves?
And that is where John Lee Dumas found himself, and after a gap year travelling the world and feeling lost and liberated all at the same time he returned, and entered into the world’s favourite career destination.
He followed that path that he had already seen travelled by his father, and enrolled to become a lawyer, which turned out to be one of the world’s worst mistakes, at least it did for John Lee Dumas.
John Dumas seems to react strongly to emotions and feelings, and will fight back quicker and more determinedly than most people.
Most would discover that they didn’t like something slowly, and then decide to remove themselves from that pain slowly too.
John, realised on that very first day that he hated it, and knew that what he had enrolled for was a massive error of judgement on his part. Without any idea of what he wanted to do, or what he wanted to become he quit at the end of the first semester.
He had to face his parents, his friends, his colleagues, ex-students, and worse of all himself.
In very short time he had gone from being a Captain in the military that people looked up to, and reacted strongly to his positive messages to someone that he couldn’t even respect himself.
John Lee Dumas, here is another one of your dots.
The self-worth that you now feel and strive everyday to grow within your listeners was gone.
You were being given the clearest clue that you were the ideal avatar to what you would become.
You were a person that needed to feel “On Fire” and love every second of your life.
Self-worth, passion, a clear message, followers, structure and organisation had been planted within him, and very soon those dots would explode, and Entrepreneur On Fire would be realized.
But still we have a few more dots to cover before we get to the true path of John Lee Dumas, Host of the award winning “Entrepreneur On Fire”.
John Lee Dumas Podcast InterviewIn 2008, John joined the company John Hancock and set about rebuilding his life, confidence and belief that he had something worthwhile to offer.
Entering the world of corporate finance John Lee Dumas, found that he had a natural talent for making money and quickly became seen as someone new to look out for.
For eighteen months his star was on the rise, and the decision makers of John Hancock knew that they had someone that was worth investing in.
They had an employee on fire!
But, as we see time and time again with John Lee Dumas, if it doesnt feel right, then no matter how much money or success is coming his way it still won’t make it right.
And on the day when he realised that he had survived a series of staff cuts during the downturn in the economy, the heads of John Hancock told them all “If you are not with us 100% then walk away because we are only going to work with people that want us”.
And instead of being relieved that he had a job, a career path, and a company that was willing to make big decisions, John Lee Dumas took what seems a remarkable decision.
A great one with hindsight, but one that from the outsider’s viewpoint appears as almost lunacy.
He realised that he wasn’t 100% with them, and although now earning a good income, with a new condo in Boston, told the company “Enough is enough” and walked away into the unknown and complete insecurity again.
Different roles came and went during the next four years, and John Lee Dumas traveled the length and breadth of the country, performing roles that were not him.
He switched roles, direction, and salaries and no matter what he tried the path that we had already seen was screaming out for him, was just not visible to his own eyes.
He didn’t realise that he had a mission to inspire.
He had words waiting to be spoken to a global audience.
He had followers ready to be led.
And then one day, in the most unexpected of locations, the tyres of John Lee Dumas’s car rolled another two inches and found the path that he was looking for.
On just another seemingly normal drive to perform the role of Commercial Real Estate broker for the The Dunham Group, the big dot arrived in John’s life.
The tyres had found traction on what would become the starting point of Entrepreneur On Fire.
During all the time driving around America, John lee Dumas had fortuitously consumed podcasts to pass the time, and to help him feel inspired and motivated.
He loved them, and had his favorites that were to be his daily companions, as he burnt up the miles of American roadway.
The familiar voices, that had become the soundtrack to his life.
But one day, these friends fell quiet.
The voices that had accompanied him for hour upon hour, now had nothing more to say.
He looked through his MP3 player and realised that he had run out. Such was his desire for listen to the learnings, speeches or just plain fun and informative conversations that John Lee Dumas had exhausted his supply.
He was consuming quicker than the hosts could deliver the content.
“Why can’t there be daily shows seven day per week?” mused John Lee Dumas, as he switched on the radio to listen to several hours of Miley Cyrus and musical fluff.
He had found it. He had joined up his dots, and found his path.
If no one else was delivering content seven days per week, then why couldn’t he?
Why couldn’t he be the first guy to do the unthinkable and create more content than people could consume.
And with that thought, lots of uncertainty, and no idea what he would even call this vision, Entrepreneur On Fire was born.
Now several years later, the humble beginnings of this award winning podcast are far to be seen in the rear view mirror of John Lee Dumas car.
With downloads of 1,000,000 per month, income exceeding $250,000 per month, and keynote presentations, and media appearances across the world, John Dumas is on fire.
He has joined up all his dots, and now seven day per week is helping others find their own.
So do you think that you can push through so much uncertainty and disappointment?
Do you think that you have what it takes to follow the voices in your own head, and create your own path?
Well if you do then there is one thing to say.

Todays guest entrepreneur joining us on the Steve Jobs inspired Join Up Dots podcast interview is Mr Marc Ensign, did me a huge favour, before he has even appeared on the show, by basically writing the shows introduction for me.
Normally, I do all the research and spin it all together, but when you go to their linkedIn and about page and start laughing straight away, then why write the thing yourself.
So in his own words "I’ve had a bit of a whirlwind of a career over the past 20 years that all began as a well known Broadway musician.
I’ve always been an entrepreneur by nature. I really didn’t have much of a choice as I was pretty much fired from every job I had as a kid for always insisting on doing things my way.
As it turns out, companies generally don’t like it when you do that…unless of course you own the company, so I started my own company. Successfully promoting my way to Broadway as a musician told me that I had a real knack for marketing, so in 2001 I picked up a copy of PhotoShop and started a website design and search engine optimization company called Sound-n-Vision.
For over 11 years now I have been directly involved in the success of well over 1,000 organizations from local Mom and Pop shops to Internet startups to non-profits to Fortune 500 Companies and everything in between by helping them to develop new strategies for success using website design, search engine optimization and social media.
With all of the success I have been able to achieve for my clients, I figured that it was a natural transition to share my real world experience and expertise on successful Internet Marketing strategies with people from all walks of life.
Marc Ensign describes his style of writing and speaking as "Internet Marketing Without the Geek Speak" meaning that I have a gift for taking otherwise complex subjects like search engine optimization, social media marketing, blogging, increasing conversion rates and other marketing strategies and breaking them down in a way that anyone can easily understand and take immediate action on.
This is a man who has found a passion where he didn't originally see that he had one?
And like me, Marc also struggles with spelling the word definitely every time he types it.
So has he created the skill that has led to his successful online business, by simply working harder than most at practicing his art?
He has found the freedom to become more of himself
Well let’s bring onto the show to start joining up dots, as we discuss the words of Steve Jobs with the one and only super entrepreneur and businessman Marc Ensign

Todays show brings Cathi Hargaden, onto the Join Up Dots Podcast interview who is an expert in a subject that most of us have heard about, but few of us totally understand.
Cathi has built a lifestyle business around the ancient principle of Feng Shui.
Developed over 3,000 years ago in China, Feng Shui is a complex body of knowledge that reveals how to balance the energies of any given space to assure health and good fortune for people inhabiting it.
Cathi Hargaden can teach us such skills as How to improve our lives by clearing out our clutter and allowing space into our properties.
How to double our success by ensuring our internal and external compasses are aligned.
And if that doesn't make you prick up your ears, then how about How to attract the vibrational energy of money, wealth, health and happiness into your life using the principles of Feng Shui.
Now I know that many of my listeners perhaps maybe dismissive of such stuff, but this is going to be a fascinating conversation as to how Cathi Hargaden has built a business around a passion, which has taken Cathi Hargaden from her home in the UK to teaching these principles across the world.
And now with both Wealthy Spaces and Healthy Spaces gaining more and more exposure and clients, since beginning over 15 years ago, she has certainly found the passion that lights her up inside and of course pays the bills too.
So when did this ancient principle first come into her life, and did she like so many people at first query its validity?
And did Cathi see an instant business opportunity or did the realisation that she should could gain income delay itself?
Well let’s bring onto the show to start joining up dots, as we discuss the words of Steve Jobs with the one and only entrepreneur Cathi Hargaden.

Todays guest joining us on the Join Up Dots podcast, is Kellie Hill, who is a lovely lady who is radiating health and wellness, and looks like the world is great around her.
But that hasn't always been the case, as she is a survivor of both heart attacks and a stroke.
And honestly, I was shocked when I discovered that fact, as I don't know what I expect heart attack survivors to look like, but its not our guest.
But from that point, her life appears to have sped up with multiple appearances on television and becoming the international radio talk show host of Eat Well To Live Well With Kellie Hill.
You see, once she had her health issues, Kellie has become the muse of neurologists and hematologists across the world, who concluded that her health diets saved her life more than once.
And this is one of those fascinating dots on the join up dots timeline, as was she already on the path to now, or did she need these life shockers to really show her the way?
Well we find out all about her healthy diet philosophy during the show, because is that there is no one-size fits all diet, but there are changes everyone can make in order to improve their health,
Because of each one of is different, most diets will work for some people and not for others, so its important to understand your own body and its need in order to attain optimal health
So how did she find out the fuel that makes her go off like a rocket, and learn the foods that are the best for her?
And does she look back at the strokes, and heart attacks as a good thing now, or just something that she hopes she never has to go through again?
Well let's find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots, with the one and only Kellie Hill.

Todays guest entrepreneur joining us on the Steve Jobs inspired business show is a man who knows a thing or two about having a laugh.
And unusually believes that laughter is a great way to develop leadership in most environments.
But does this have to be an unusual approach in business, or should showing a sense of humour in the work place, be the perfect way to find freedom in our lives, reduce stress, inspire others, and of course to show that you are in control?
Well for over 15 years, our guest toured America as he excelled in one of the hardest entrepreneurial routes you can take, that of the stand-up comic. Honing his craft.
Where the ability to learn from complete silence, and take the nights when everything goes wrong, helps you find your natural self, and ultimately bring laughter to any audience.
And why did he do this?
Well he knew he had to overcome his fear of public speaking to build the kind of careers that he wanted, after meeting a gentleman at a toastmasters meeting he knew it was down to him to beat this fear.
He was told “The only way to get better at building the careers that you want is to do it.”
As he says, “Everybody in this world has a story to tell and they should share their stories. I believe we learn how to overcome adversity when we share our stories.”
And he is doing that to great effect, and bringing smiles and laughter to everyone he meets?
So can he remember the nights when every joke went down like a lead balloon?
And did he know at those times that he was learning a valuable lesson towards building his perfect lifestyle, or was it just “How long till I can get off this stage?”
Well let’s bring onto the show to start joining up dots, with the one and only entrepreneur Mr Ray Engan

Todays Bonus episode of Join Up Dots responds to an email from a listener, but of course answers something that we all struggle with. How do we stop our dreams being crushed. How do we Protect the Dreams?
Dear Join Up Dots team,
Thanks for the amazing resource you have created and the content that you are giving to us all.
My head has literally been spinning with ideas and possibilities as to the life I can have.
My problem is I feel alone when I talk about these things.
I don't have anyone that shares the same dreams, so the responses I have got has been underwhelming to say the least.
I have heard you talk about your virtual friends is this the way forward. Should I foget about real people who seem not to undertand
Alll the best

Todays guest entrepreneur joining us on Steve Jobs inspired motivation packed podcast Join Up Dots is a lady who has always been someone that looks at the world with different eyes.
When the rest of us, are accepting what we see and going along with the status quo, she is questioning.
Questioning how we can do things differently, leading to a better world for all of us.
When she was 15 years old, she realised that she was living in a world where people were making weapons to kill each other with, and the world thought that was ok.
And with one thought “There has to be another way of creating this world” she set off on the path she is on today.
And now as the hugely successful author of the book Do You QuantumThink?: New Thinking That Will Rock Your World she has become a media personality as she speaks across the world on the subject of changing our thinking, to a new way.
With her 21 principles that connect us to living our full potential, she is a lady on a mission to change us all.
So I suppose one of the key questions, is how does she find the motivation to overcome the old world thinking that so many people have when being confronted by anything new?
And does she see that as the older generations are slipping further away from the cutting edge of today, that her message is being received more easily than it has ever been before?

Entrepreneurs like todays guest joining us on the Steve Jobs inspired business podcast is Ace Chapman, an entrepreneur, businessman, and high achiever who has made millions buying and selling business's for himself, and of course helping others to do the same.
His lifestyle is one of success, as he literally wakes up everyday with a huge smile on his face and does the thing that he loves.
But it wasn't always that way.
And just twelve years ago when he was 22 years old, he was on a totally different path
As he says " It was 2002 but it seems like it was just yesterday. I was 22 and just the thought of what the next 40 years would look like terrified me. I had tried some business ideas here and there and nothing seemed to work. It seemed nearly impossible to get ahead. I had little savings, student loans, and credit card debt. I was so sick of being broke and not being able to afford to finer things in life or the freedom to follow my passion for travel and connecting with people. But I was terrified to try anything. A college dropout, I knew I would hit a glass ceiling in the corporate world. Yet I had neither the time or money to afford more education. I has resigned myself to thinking cynically about my future. Talking to my co workers nearing retirement I saw my future as retiring on a little more than social security. It was obvious speaking to them that despite all the hype around retirement plan they weren’t working in reality.
It sucked. It was a pathetic existence spending so much of my life doing something I didn’t enjoy."
And at his lowest point, he was forced to make a decision.
He was fired from his company, broke and clueless to his talents and passions.
So he did something.
And then something else and by trial and error discovered what it took to build his first million dollar business.
And now if you were to ask him what the secret of success is he will say "Keep it simple. Provide more value than you take...your income is really defined by your value to society!”
So is it mind-set that holds so many people down, or a fear of trying something new?
And does he feel that he started at the right time in his life, or could he have started even earlier on his entrepreneurial journey?
Well let's find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots, with the one and only home flipping entrepreneur Mr Ace Chapman

Todays guest is a lady who quite openly states that she has always done things unconventionally starting from not going to school as a child, to still holding the record of not having a “proper job” even once.
But don't think that this is a tale about a lady who simply doesn't want to work.
No this is a tale about a lady, who has been forced to live her life in a very specific way to due to health issues that have affected her since a small girl.
At the age of 16 she lost one of her lungs, and was diagnosed with Crohns Disease coupled with a form of rheumatoid arthritis and spondylitis.
Essentially, even if she wanted to hold down a full time job, then her body would not allow her to do so, which allowed her first steps on the path she is on today to start to appear before her
She asked herself "How many others are out there thinking there is no better way to live or that they can’t follow their passions due to illness or a physical condition?
As she says "It all made sense to me, the dots joined up on my unconventional upbringing that I could live in London, one of the most expensive cities in the world by leveraging my unconventional thinking.
She has now created a community where other such inspirational people could share their stories and bring together a new understanding of what it means to live with a chronic condition at Chronically Driven.
So how has she taken this idea and turned it into income?
And does she now see her illnesses as a hindrance or a blessing that has led her to where she wants to be?

Todays guest on the Steve Jobs inspired Join Up Dots is a fellow podcaster who has a great mission in life.
He is a man who is becoming an expert in helping couples find the spark in their once vibrant relationships.
He helps build bridges where there are chasms to cross.
He inspires conversation where there is simply silence.
And he encourages bedroom passions, where there are just snores and sleeping.
But if this sounds like a man who has lived a life of perfect relationships and harmonious connections leading towards the perfect career then think again.
As he says "Early in life, I learned about the heartache that comes when love doesn’t work.
Coming into this world, I was fatherless, and the youngest of three. Life in Medellin, Colombia wasn’t easy.
My Mother was 25 years old, addicted to cocaine, and didn’t have any interest in taking care of her three kids.
When I was five years old my Mother was murdered. I was homeless for three years until I was finally adopted.
My life was transformed! I had a Mother, Father, and was surrounded by a loving family in America.
Soon after though, my adopted parents divorced. I was left confused and feeling like I couldn’t rely on love.
I made up my mind that love doesn’t last and turned to spirituality for the connection I was seeking. For nearly a decade, I devoted my life to becoming a monk. My path into spirituality taught me a great deal—But no matter how much I learned there was something missing.
That all changed when I met my first love. With her I found what I was searching for. I found someone I could be completely authentic and open with and someone who could see all of me. Falling in love was one of the most amazing experiences. It was much more than any meditation or spiritual experience could offer.
Then she broke my heart and left."
So he has had some serious moments in his ife, which could have left him saying "Why me?....Whats the point in loving?"
But instead he has been left with "How can I help you?" which is allowing him to gain more and more success and of course time freedom

Todays guest inspirational entrepreneur joining me for an hour of discussion on Join Up Dots, is a lady with a fascinating path to where she is today.
Back in 2009 her country was in disarray.
Iceland had suffered a huge economic crash, and financially was on its knees.
So she was asked to play a leading career role, working with the nations leaders, who collectively worked together to reinvigorate the country following the crash.
The group tapped into the values and future vision of the island nation and transformed Iceland’s economy by branding their uniqueness, what they do the best, or their X-factor, as she calls it.
Seeing first hand the immediate benefit and long-term results of a whole nation working collectively to discover who they authentically are, the outcome of this unique assembly became one of the cornerstones of her successful business branding process.
She has transformed her own career success, and currently dedicates her work to supporting global leaders and their teams to brand their own X-Factor to unleash their fullest potential while discovering their own flow in business and life.
Now if that sounds a bit highbrow, then let's hear how she phrases it in her own unique way "Finding the thing that makes you unique is often right in front of your tits"
Having the motivation to look deep with yourself to find the thing that will make your career so enjoyable.
Which I love and totally understand, and when you my trusted listener understand this statement you will wonder how you had never seen the thing right in front of yourself too.
So does she look back and now wonder why it took a national disaster for her to reinvent herself and find her own x-factor?
And does life become more and more fun, when you do step bolding into your own areas of genius?
Well let's bring onto the show to start joining up dots, with the one and only super entrepreneur Runa Magnus.

When I asked todays entrepreneur to come on the show and share with us how she has created a career that gives her success and freedom everyday, she responded with "thank you so much for your delicious invitation, I love delicious conversations, wishing you a delicious day"
Yes this lady loves the word delicious, and it's not a surprise that she uses such a gushing word, as she is loving her life and what she gets to do everyday.
She has been having entrepreneurial adventures since 1980.
Initially, they were vicarious adventures while she worked directly with CEOs of small businesses.
As she says "I call those years my “entrepreneurial boot camp” experience."
I didn't really know what type of career it was that I wanted.
Then after earning her MBA in 1989 she went to work at a large national bank as a corporate lender for three years.
But can now see that this was not a culture she could ever thrive in … it’s a risk adverse environment, after all… but as she says "I felt it was important to add strong financial analysis and credibility to my resume, so I made the sacrifice. "
However in 1992 she to the leap of faith and left the banking industry and began her entrepreneurial career… and what a ride it’s been!
From a boot-strapped consulting business to an $8 million venture backed dot com business, to a food manufacturing business funded by angel money, to a highly interactive online business fueled by a charming personality and a strong sense of humor… it’s been a wild and exciting journey.
So where did she get the adventurous spirit which has allowed her to take risks that lead to high rewards?
And looking back and joining up the dots, does the sacrifice she made leading towards her big leap when working in the bank seem necessary, or was it a step away from her true path the job that she really was deserving to get?
Well lets find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots, with the one and only business expert Ande Lyons.

Todays bonus episode highlights a solution to a problem that so many entrepreneurs struggle with. What is the perfect time to GO! In this episode David Ralph answers a listeners email and gives a blueprint for success.
Fri, 15 May 2015
Today's guest entrepreneur is a man who is rocking and rolling in his life and doing something that we talk about time and time again on Join Up Dots.
He is a man working on the leap of faith, building up momentum and profile in his life, as he works towards his big goal.
Creating an inspiring lifestyle of money, success and of course time freedom.
And that is going to be the part that will interest me, as this guy has become a friend to me, and I have no idea as to what his big goal is ultimately going to be.
Starting his career as a Teacher for Thea Bowman Leadership Academy, he has a history of teaching and coaching, and is now the Assistant Principal in Gary Indiana.
But behind the scenes, he was finding time to build his own company OK! Kimonos, where he sells a wide range of merchandise linked to Martial Arts
But believe me if you think that you haven't got time in your life to do what you want to do then this guy will make you reassess your own efforts.
He is working full time, training, running GiReviews.net, writing for Jiu Jitsu Mag, running Ok! Kimonos, writing guest posts, and running his own wildly successful podcast "Entrepreneurs And Coffee podcast"
So how does he do all this?
How does he find the motivation to pack so much into his life and still have time for his wife and kids, and of course for himself?
And does he see all the different areas pulling together, or will he have to make the decision to focus in one thing or the other?
Well let's find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots, with the one and only top entrepreneur and career builder Brendan Hufford.

Todays guest solopreneur is a man who was introduced to me by the great Matthew Pollard who appeared on episode of 344 of Join Up Dots.
He said "David, you have to have this great bloke on your show he is the best" and aren't I glad I said "jump onboard"
As he has fascinating story that started when a Brazilian missionary handed him a tattered 1979 copy of "Quest for the Best."
And his life changed forever.
As he says "While my peers were the 90s' equivalent of "Twilight," I was devouring books on economics, biographies, success stories, business management, entrepreneurship, and anything else business-related. I couldn't get enough"
And did this inspire his love for everything entrepreneurial, or just help him find the thing that he could love enough to risk the old leap of faith?
Well we will find out during the show, but its true to say, that he did leap and left conventional employment to start an IT services company with a co-worker (still successfully in business today), and during the start-up phase, found he could support his family by taking on copywriting projects to bring in some extra cash
And I love this part of the story, as it links literally every episode of join up dots, as these two passions fell in love with each other, and after a quick getting to know each other stage, produced an amazing offspring.
Our guest gave birth to his fulltime career combining his two loves—business and writing—he decided to pursue a full-time career as a business writer and he hasn't looked back since.
So was he an avid reader when he was a kid, or did he need to find the moment when the written word was right for him?
And does he see the old mantra of "find your passion and you will never work again" as true, or it is more like the passion will find you?
Well let's find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots, with the one and only Mr Derek Lewis

Todays amazing guest entrepreneur joining us on Join Up Dots is a New Zealander that has started, built, bought and sold half a dozen businesses in a range of industries across two continents.
He has hustle muscle flooding though every vein, as he has powered himself to being classed as one of the most connected people in Asia, whilst enduring his fair share of painful crashes too!
He has built an inspiring career as the owner of Fitness-Buffet a company delivering employee wellness solutions in 11 countries, and he is also the CEO of Entrevo Asia, a company that runs 40 week Growth Accelerator programs allowing executives and business owners to become a ‘Key Person of Influence’ in their industry.
A company whose vision is a world full of entrepreneurial people solving meaningful problems.
But this is just part of the inspiration that links his story, as when you look at his background, there seems to be a strong decision maker, who is willing to take calculated risks to build the future that we wants.
He is willing to do the unusal if it steps him forward to were he wants to be, starting way back in 1999 when he co founded Netherlands based Telco Management consultancy and recruitment company, which to me is a fascinating moment in his life.
Wouldn't it have been easier to start building in his hometown and country of birth, or perhaps he did, and we have even more dots to join up in his life.
Well lets find out what makes this guy tick, as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots, with the one and only lifestyle solopreneur himself Callum Laing.

Todays guest solopreneur, is a lady who is demonstrating hustle in many different fields, and is someone who has a claim to fame that I have never shared on any episode of Join Up Dots.
She is a lady whose career has literally been formed to inspire the world to make music, with more songs written for and about her than anyone else in the history of time.
From the Smashing Pumpkins, Depeche Mode, Erasure, The Cure, Nirvana, Coldplay, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, U2, and even the main man himself David Bowie who has written more than one.
And its not surprising that so many people have found the inspiration by her, as she has a freedom of spirit and an enthusiasm to make our world, and the lives of all of us on it as good as it can be.
She is a huge advocate of living free, and preventing aging, but not by having nips and tucks done everywhere, but instead keeping your spirit youthful to celebrate
As she says " AGING is a CHOICE. Each time you buy into aging you are actually CHOOSING it. If you blow out 40 candles on your cake and think, “Ok now I am 40″ with a set of expectations of what that means, you CREATE it. When we blow out candles on OUR cake, we think, “YAY I AM 23 for the 17th year in a row!!!” It sure makes one pretty good at being 23"
But as a surfer, film maker, health advocate, entrepreneur and of course a musical muse of the worlds biggest artists then she is someone who is packing in a huge amount of value to everyday.
So we can literally go in any direction in todays show, and deliver the kind of success content that we simply love bringing to our listeners.
So did she always see her life going in such a direction, or was she like the rest of us on a totally different path when she first started?
And its obvious to her that the world are holding themselves back from their true potential in life?
Well lets find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots on the Steve Jobs inspired podcast with the one and only Veronica Grey.

In todays Bonus episode we answer an email for Karen Linders in Australia, who asked the following question
I am an avid listerner of the show, and love the way your onversations are deep, insightful but great fun too, and im trying to think big and then think bigger as you suggest.
The problem is I don't seem to be able to truly believe in myself to do this.
Do you have any suggestions

Todays guest on Join Up Dots has been using the power of the spoken word for over three decades
For over 30 years, corporate leaders, actors, sales teams, and professionals in all areas of the marketplace have relied on her training to assist them with reaching their goals of speaking more powerfully, selling with finesse, and leading with inspiration.
But this isn't a lady who has simply come through the corporate route, standing in front of bored directors in the boardrooms of the world.
No, this is a veteran performer of film, television and theatre, who has trod the boards, appeared in hit shows, and movies too.
But it seems to me that a key moment in her life wasn't whilst she was in the spotlight, as such but instead when being hired by a corporation over 25 years ago
The hiring guy looked at her resume and said to her “Leave out the words ‘acting techniques.’ We don’t act here,"
To which she replied, “Oh, I beg to differ. You act every day. All business people have a role to play and the key to success lies in their performance.”
And, by “acting” I don’t mean faking, pretending or imitating. I DO mean, delivering a message or script or any communication with authenticity, passion, energy and animation"
Wow, that was a ballsy response to someone wanting be hired.
So is that a clear indication of what you get from this lady, or was this another example of acting and delivering a message?

Todays guest on Join Up Dots, is an expert in self-esteem, empowering people to experience long-lasting real happiness from the inside out.
She does this by teaching them how to feel good about themselves just because, and to stop defining their value by what they have done or not done and what they have or don’t have.
Her mission and passion is to make a contribution to society by making a difference in the way people see themselves; especially those who have given up on life.
As the founder and owner of a outpatient substance abuse program, Focus One, she has treated thousands of troubled individuals from all walks of life for the past 25 or so years.
Many of these individuals were referred as the result of a drug- and/or alcohol-related offenses.
Others came to her voluntarily because their lives were falling apart.
They were depressed, angry, anxious, unhappy, discontent, their relationships were a mess, they were in financial trouble and/or they had an addiction to someone or something.
It was through working with these patients that she discovered a lack of self-esteem because society had taught them to be other-dependent.
They felt that they would find happiness in other things, not within themselves.
Which lead her to begin looking at her own life in my personal quest for happiness, she made some very interesting discoveries on the way.
So why do we all assume that outside influences are the way to to true happiness?
And can she see this issue getting worse and worse as we all find it so much easier to see the achievements of others across the world?
Well lets find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots, with the one and only Dr.Patricia Noll.

Hi there, you maybe wondering why today I have dropped my English accent and sound more like Elvis Presley on steroids, but I'm Dwain Scott the host of the Shifting Work podcast and todays episode is a little different.
In fact there is a fair chance that this will never occur again, but todays guest a year ago was sitting nervously waiting to start a new adventure.
He was ready to press launch and bring to you the show that is Join Up Dots with David Ralph.
He had never hosted his own show, didn't know one end of a microphone to another, and as for interviewing the mover and shakers of the world was a complete novice.
But the one thing that he did know was that he had a dream to build a platform that would inspire the world to leave their cubicles, forget about the daily commute, and go for their dreams.
And now over 365 episodes later, we thought it was time to share with you the journey that he has been on.
To show you how you can quite simply do anything you want, if you are willing to take risks, flex your hustle muscle and step into the unknown.
And with a history working in London and finance, and being a trainer and a coach within offices in the UK, becoming the host of an online show was certainly a step into the unknown.
So what was it about creating a show that so appealed to him over a year ago?
And has it been plain sailing, or tougher than he could have possibly known?
Well lets find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots with the one and only David Ralph.

It's with great delight that we bring onto the show today a man who had a similar background to myself.
He began his career in the City Of London as a broker, and after a period of time knew that his time had come, to go after what lights him up inside.
In fact it was a lot worse than that, as he actually became chronically depressed and knew that he had to do something about the way his life was going.
And wow didn't he do just that, as now he is a global adventurer, motivational speaker & philanthropist.
He gave up this image of corporate success for a life on the road, which came about after being inspired by the movie The Motorcycle Diaries.
The days of living and working behind his ‘slab of wood’ were well and truly over.
His new passion: Finding ways for your inner rebel (that voice that tells you, you are worth so much more than you think) to come out and play.
As he says "The inner rebel tells you that your life is yours. And anything you dream of is possible. Anything. And that the fuel for all this delicious potential is simple: Kindness and harnessing the power of human connection. And. Doing it all with a smile on your face and a spring in your step!"
So how did he take that first step when so many people would have thought that he had cracked it already?
And does he look back at his past life, and know that this was just one of his dots that he had to go through to get to where he is today?
Well lets find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots with the inspirational Leon Logothetis.

Todays guest entrepreneur showing how to build their own perfect careers, is a lady who when it comes to looking good, and feeling great she has it down big time.
She has her fingers on the pulse on what it takes to make ladies feel good about themselves.
Which, coming from a house full of ladies like I do, must be an almost impossible job.
Graduating from Washington University in St. Louis she earned her Master’s Degree from Columbia University, in 2009 and went straight in to the entrepreneurial route.
Yep, unless what I have researched is wrong, there was no way that our guest was going to be an employee sitting in a cubicle for nine hours, and she strode boldly into the world of freelance.
But the fascinating thing is that from March to June 2009, she started three ventures which are still going strong today, freelancing for the StyleCaster, TheLuxurySpot and of course being the CEO of TheBeautyBean.com
The latter being the place where her readers get an intimate and expansive look at beauty, health and wellness without the focus on weight loss, dieting and the number on the scale.
She currently lives in Los Angeles (although she’s still a New Yorker at heart!), and seems to have been born with more hustle muscle than the average.
Which is great to creating the kind of lifestyle that give her freedom to enjoy her life.
So does she see that the self-esteem issues that ladies have is something that is getting worse as time goes on?
And does she see those same issues in herself or has she beaten them into submission?
Well lets find out as we bring onto the show, to start joining up dots with the one and only beauty expert and entrepreneur Alexis Wolfer.

In her more than 30 years of experience as an entrepreneur and corporate leader, she has served as the CEO of both public and private companies and also in management positions at Fortune 500 companies.
She has been on the advisory boards of Illuminate Ventures, an early-stage venture capital firm based in Menlo Park, California; Pereg Ventures, a venture capital firm based in New York; Springboard Enterprises based in Washington, DC; and Women Innovate Mobile (WIM) accelerators based in New York.
But nowadays it is really as a speaker and author of business books such as How to Be a Power Connector: The 5+50+100 Rule for Turning Your Business Network into Profits , a book that provides instant, effective strategies for meeting the people you need to know and bonding with them fast to further your goals and theirs.
As she says, "I'm all about dots -most people don't have, cant connect the ones they've got or more importantly don't leverage for the good of all. Sad because nothing happens without people and all resources are connected to them. With seven billion folks on earth, $369 trillion in global private wealth, countless opportunities and information doubling in less than six months - there is no scarcity of resources to achieve any dream!"
So what is it about reaching out to others that is simply a gamechanger?
And why of course do so many people feel that they don't have value to provide in return, so will run scared of reaching out?

Todays guest is a lady who for many years has travelled the world reporting on the issues that affect women and girls across the globe.
Many of them being harrowing treatment, abuse, rape and unneeded suppression.
She is a Human rights activist, journalist and award-winning author and has stepped into zones of conflict all over the world.
From Bosnia and Somalia to the Middle East, Rwanda, Congo and Afghanistan, her eye witness reports have earned her awards including the Gold Award from the National Magazine Awards Foundation, and the Author's Award from the Foundation for the Advancement of Canadian Letters.
Born in 1943 in Montreal, Quebec as a high school physical education teacher, she was involved in the inception of what would later become the magazine Canadian Living.
Whilst in 1988, she became the editor-in-chief of Homemakers magazine, a position she held until 1999.
But she is best known for her work as a journalist, where her principal focus being on on the lives of women and girls in Afghanistan during the extremist rule of the Taliban from 1996 to 2001 and during the country’s present efforts to rebuild itself.
Her bestseller, Veiled Threat (2002), shows her strong belief in the power of individuals to work together to create change.
As she says" There has been no good news, until now. There’s a shift happening – women are moving toward a tipping point. “Everyone – from presidents to pollsters and economists to policy wonks – are predicting that women are the way forward”
So how did she find herself stepping boldly away from Canada, and into areas that if we are to believe the news should be the last places a lady would want to go?
And does she see a time when she will slow down on the global focus, and become more local in her efforts?
Well lets find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots, with the one and only Sally Armstrong.

Sometimes you can't see the path that you should be on, even though you are on the right path.
And that seems to be the case with today's guest entrepreneur joining up their success on Join Up Dots.
This is a man who started working in an environment just as a job, and then found that he loved the very thing that he was surrounding himself.
He found his thing in the world of sales, and now calls himself a "Sales Evangelist" and gets his message of the best sales techniques and personal stories of success out to the world on his very own show "The Sales Evangelist Podcast"
He wants to bring the best tips and advice from the most experienced sellers to the struggling and overwhelmed sales executives, that fail to see that the perfect closure of a sale, isn't a forced sale, but one where the customers wont let you go without signing on the dotted line.
But this story is one of those that I find so fascinating on join up dots, and bridges the gap between the listeners and the successful entrepreneurs and movers and shakers.
As he is still on a daily basis hustling like mad to make the future that he deserves.
He still works fulltime for Advance Processing and Imaging in Florida, and when he isn't in the Florida sun with his lovely wife will be work on the slide of faith, leading to the big leap.
So does he find it a struggle to balance his life as a sales coach, podcast host, and an award winning speaker with his everday commitments?
And what has he found as the hardest part of starting a new venture...the idea, or the action?
Well lets find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots with the one and only Mr Donald Kelly

Today's guest is a lady that I heard on a show, and loved the passion for life, and the leap of faith that she took so dramatically.
Several years ago, she was diagnosed with clinical depression and suffering from drug addictions, eating disorders and corporate burnout, she hit rock bottom.
And in that position of rock bottom, in that darkness she found the light.
She realized she had the power to bring herself to happiness…and that is exactly what she did.
Yep leap of faith time came beckoning, and she left her high-powered job in advertising to follow her heart and engage in the work she does today.
Now this isn't a story, when as soon as she landed from the leap she hit the ground running and had it all planned out.
She started her journey, and began documenting her odyssey on the website she had built "playwiththeworld.com."
And now her dream to be a writer, happy, inspired and and of course an inspiration to many across the world has come true, and she is the bestselling author of Find Your Happy, an Inspirational Guide to Loving Life to Its Fullest, and a six-time contributing author to Chicken Soup for The Soul.
Her work has been recognized in media outlets across the world such as Good Morning America, Good Day New York, Inside Edition, HuffPost Live, Health Magazine and Australian Vogue and she is an online columnist for Huffington Post, MindBodyGreen, Healing Lifestyles & Spas and The Daily Love.
Wow, everything she does is to help us connect with our true self and without apology to live your authentic purpose.
She teaches people how to courageously follow their heart.
So can she remember the night before she went into her advertising job and told them all.."I'm off to follow my heart"?
And does she see now the world with different, knowing eyes, and cant quite understand why the rest are struggling to see things the same way?

Todays guest was born and raised in Long Island, New York, and became a graduate of Yale University in 2004 where she gained a B.A, with distinction in Latin American Studies.
And according to her profile she then began working straight afterwards as an intern for Chimpanzee Productions, where she assisted in the making of the feature-length documentary "The Twelve Disciples of Nelson Mandela."
Later after working for Viacom for four years producing educational on-air and web videos for Nickelodeon, she moved on to film school and went after additional education in the area that she had been working.
She decided that she needed more tuition in film production, when so many people would be saying that's job done...time to be and adult and earn the bucks, this time she studied M.F.A, Film & Media Production.
And this time it seems to have been the lost block to the career that she truly wanted, and could see clearly in front of her.
Both sets of knowledge gained at Yale and Texas came together, and she has since directed and produced numerous short documentary and narrative films focusing on racial identity and belonging.
Her documentary film, Still Black, At Yale, screened at over twenty international film festivals and educational conferences including the Pan African Film Festival and the San Francisco Black Film Festival
Whilst even Forbes recognized her innovative film-based wellness efforts calling her work the “Smartest, Sexiest Workout Videos Ever.”
And believe me I have watched them, and had to have a cold shower afterwards.
So how did she find the thing that she truly wanted in her life, luck, hard work, or a bit of both?

Todays guest is someone who is marching on with his life, with something that many of us would consider a huge hindrance.
In fact a total game stopper.
He is a totally blind business owner, blogger, sometimes podcaster, and newly self published author.
Born into a family of carnival owners in Texas, USA, he lost his sight at age 12.
But having a natural gusto for life this didn't hold him back, and he graduated college, before working in the family business alongside his brothers until his father tragically succumbed to lung cancer.
Faced with his own mortality, he made some life-altering changes, undergoing gastric surgery to lost over 250 pounds.
He started his own business, buying and selling amusement rides, and learned how to blog using software for visually-impaired people.
Overcoming many obstacles, he has made a name for himself online and now shares his experiences on The Blind Blogger.
And with the companionship of his crazy Dalmation-mix, Penny, he now spends his days singing, reading, blogging, writing, creating videos, and coaching, and of course inspiring everyone he comes in contact with.
So does he remember when he first realized that he was slowly losing his sight as a young man?
And does he find now that his life has found the path that feels right because of it, and not despite of of it?
Well lets find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots, with the one and only Maxwell Ivey

Today's guest is a man who started really making momentum in his life in the simplest of ways.
He heard a quote that we have heard so many times in life, and more than once on Join Up Dots and this time he was ready for the message.
At the beginning of 2014, he heard Jim Rohns quote, “you are the average of the 5 people you spend the most time with” and found that this quote would transform his life!
Since then, he has focused on surrounding himself with people who are where he wanted to be in 10-15 years, and what a difference it has made!
And in just twelve months he has since seen his income slashed by 40% and being surrounded by the wrong people, to being directly advised by the CEO's of major companies.
And these are guys that are rocking and rolling and really doing amazing stuff, such as the CEO of the sports agency the movie Jerry Maguire was based, the founder of the Make-A-Wish Foundation to name just two.
But the great thing about this is that this isn't a guy who has all the time in the world, as he doing all of us whilst holding down a steady job.
So how has he done all of this and still managed to hold down his daily job?
Well lets find out as we bring onto the show, to start joining up dots with the one and only Mr Geoff Woods.

Todays guest on Join Up Dots is going to give us a different perspective to a story which we have already told back on a previous episode of Join Up Dots.
His girlfriend and business partner Julie Gohring, came on the show on episode 330, and told us how together with todays guest she has created a life splashing around happily on the beaches of Costa Rica.
But it isn’t all about having great fun and the life that he wants.
Yes, he is passionate about using fitness and health to enrich peoples lives.
As he says “I’ve been an athlete my entire life which has given me a unique set of tools to educate and motivate others to live healthier, fitter and more joyous lives.
I love training on the beach and getting after it in the gym. Good nutrition (most of the time) solid recovery, and a little mindfulness practice round out my core beliefs.
Surfing lights me up inside and motivates me to eat well, train hard, and stay well rested.
I believe we all can find that activity that keeps us active and puts a smile on our face. And i’m here to help you discover it for yourself.”
But this isn’t a tale of someone just playing to their strengths and it all comes together effortlessly.
This is a story of someone making big decisions, and tackling his own mind chatter head on, as he transitioned from San Francisco and paradise, and a life that looks too good to be true.
So how did he free himself from the naysayers, and doom mongers that will have thought “You can’t have a life on the beach…..that is what vacations are for, not work?”
And does he see the beach as the ultimate place for building a business based on your passions, just for the fact that if you can do it there you will believe you can do it anywhere?
Well let’s find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots, with the one and only Mr Nick Holt

Born in the city of Fayetteville, North Carolina, our guest today is a singer, songwriter, mother and wife.
And a musician, who is looking to inspire the world with the power of her voice.
And when you hear her voice, you can tell that she is someone who has experienced life.
She has had a fascinating journey of personal struggles and challenges which could have easily derailed her and put her on a totally different path to where she is today.
Though still evolving as an artist, her unique gift of music has opened many doors for her.
She has worked with a number of industry veterans such as Troy Patterson, Emanuel Seal (Mariah Carey, Usher) and the Clemons Brothers (Dru Hill, Mary J. Blige, Out of Eden).
All of these roads have led to a place of peace in her life and music, and a clear focus to where her life is going.
And as she says " My mission and ultimate goal is to establish a foundation that will inspire and build young women with low self esteem and past traumatic experiences, to reach for destiny and to fulfill their purpose”.
So was she always a lady who loved nothing more than belting out the big gospel numbers as a kid?
Or has her talent been as much of a surprise to her than anyone else?
Well lets find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots, with the one and only Tay Clemons.

Today guest on Join Up Dots is an author who has written several books looking at the way that we operate in the realms of personal development.
Winning many raving fans, who lap up his easy conversational style, he breaks down the kind of issues that hold us back, such as self esteem, mindset, and other such stuff.
But the interesting thing to me, is it doesn’t look like he was someone who knew at the beginning of his career that he was going to be an author of note.
Take him back in time and it looks as if his early working life, was one of trying to find his thing.
As he quite literally whizzed through job after job, with many only lasting for a few months at a time.
Yep he worked for banks, customer service departments, and even a taxi cab company as he worked at finding the first big dot.
He worked at finding the dot that started leading to where he is today.
And that seemed to begin with three letters NLP
He became a student of the mind and for the next 15 years found his audience, his value, and his wealth, as he in his own words “I used over 15 years experience in using personal change psychology to help people make radical changes in their perceptions, thinking styles, emotions and beliefs. My goals are to help clients have personal breakthroughs in their everyday effectiveness, and especially to help people who have a ‘vision’ for making themselves and the community-world around them a better place.”
So is he in a much better place now, due to those many jobs he had in the beginning or because of what he has done since?
And where can he see his life going, bigger and bigger dreams, or cementing the position that he has found?
Well lets find out, as we start joining up dots, with the one and only Mr Joshua Cartwright.

Just recently it was a delight to be asked to be a guest on a really fun show to do called "Conversations with a Genius"
Yep, I know don't ask, but suffice to say that they didn't check me out well enough and I managed to crawl under the wire and get on the show.
And I had such a great time, I thought lets reciprocate by bringing the host onto join up some dots with me.
But let's tell you about him, as he is a man that has had hustle muscle running through him at such an early age, and you can see that a lot of this was as a direct result of growing up as poor white child in the south Phoenix ghetto.
Being raised by an amazing single mom with no money and a whole lot of hope.
And these formative years can either go two ways.
One you can accept your lot, and stay in that situation, or two fight back.
And our guest did just that an embarked on a series of jobs, as he fought his way back to where he is today
As he says "For the last 17 years I have started, built and sold businesses. I have had a ton of fun, learned a lifetime of business genius, and even enjoyed some pretty cool financial rewards. I have also had more than my fair share of cursing, shaking my fist at the heavens, and sitting in a ball in the corner rocking and crying. I have invested thousands of hours (and dollars) devouring books, courses, podcast, articles, blogs, and the like on how to be a successful business owner."
Well it now looks like it is all coming together for him, and why not, if you put in the effort and take consistent action everyday.
So when he was a janitor, sleeping in cars everyday, did he truly believe that he could get to where his is today?
And does he see now that his Mother could have done things differently, or was it just lack of awareness and time that held her back?
Well lets find out as we bring onto the show, to start joining up dots with the one and only Mike Campion.

Todays guest on Join Up Dots has a story that so many ladies, and I suppose men can resonate with.
For many years she has battled with the issue that many people struggle with each time they look into the mirror.
Her body did not look like how she wanted it to look, and no matter how many diets, exercise sessions and days starving herself she went through, it was never good enough.
Upon leaving High School she realised that she wanted to lose some weight, in fact 30 pounds and set about doing that for the next two years.
But growing up she was never taught the importance of eating healthily or exercising.
So she was utterly lost on where to start.
But what happens when you realise that the battle is not the way to go?
What happens when a person comes into your life that can lose weight by having fun and living?
Well this happened with our guest and as she says" He was “Live In The Moment King” and his life philosophy was get out, have fun and live like there’s no tomorrow. This was uncharted waters for me and super scary, to be honest. I was definitely your typical “Type A.” Checklist, to-dos and well-thought-out plans were the foundation of my life (if I could’ve planned my entire life, I probably would’ve). But I was so sick and tired of living with the perpetual abusive thoughts that I was willing to set my fear aside and start *really* living, no matter how scary it felt."
And now the transformation is amazing as we will discuss on todays show.
So is it about being in a state of fear and challenging yourself, that really gets the juices flowing and help bring about weight loss?
Or is it just that by focusing in on other things you realise the best things occur naturally, and not by forcing the issue?
Well lets find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots with the one and only Nichole Kellerman Wurth.

Todays guest taps into something on a daily basis that we also talk about on a daily basis.
The connection between being an adult and the child we once were.
You see, as we discuss on Join Up Dots there was once a time in our life, when we free and able to dream big.
We could sleep well at night, and wake up rested, ready for another day of big dreams, fantasy lives, and well being a kid.
And our guest came to the same realisation although from a slightly different route.
You see our guest left college and along with his wife entered the “real world” and quickly noticed a few things.
Like the fact that a shocking number of grown-ups are inflicted with Adultitis.
They looked around and thought, “Hey, kids don’t ever seem to be very stressed out – what do they know that we don’t?”
As they say " The “Adulthood” we encourage people to escape from is the one they create for themselves when they assume childhood is nothing more than a stage of life, a hermetically-sealed portion of their past.
It is the Adulthood with all the stupid rules, the one that demands we always do the safe and prudent thing, that we earn play through hard work, and that we must always, without exception, take ourselves way too seriously.
Yeah, that’s the Adulthood that sucks.
This desire for escape is not new. But too often our attempts are limited to cheap thrills, strong drinks, or mindless entertainment.
We believe there’s a better way."
Well lets find out what that better way is, because I feel they have already got believer in me.
So its with delight that we get to bring onto the show to start joining up dots with the one and only Mr Jason Kotecki

Todays guest is a man who for over a decade chased the Hollywood Dream. Hustling like mad as a writer to get that breakthrough that would make everything possible in his life
However he hit a crisis point on New Year’s Eve of The Millennium when he became terrified that 5+ years of driving a taxi to survive would be irreversible career suicide.
He quit writing, dove into an intense transformational period of self-help and personal development work, and focussed on making money for the next 8 years, becoming fat and happy.
As the economy collapsed in 2008, Clint was at a men’s self-help meeting when the shaman pointed at Clint across the yellow and orange crackling flames of the camp-fire and said, “You don’t know it yet, but you’re already dead.”
Well that is one of those comments that you can either take two ways.
One...."What the hell is this man talking about, its quite obvious that I'm not dead!"
Or two.........what our guest today did.
He took it as inspiration to change his life like never before and in 2009, he made sure that he was going to live as if it was going to be his last year on earth
He lost 40-lbs, built a factory which allowed his business to thrive during The Great Recession and beyond, wrote his first bestseller and revived his crumbling marriage.
But rest assured this is not a story about a man who simply got lucky.
This is a story about a man who took courgagoues decisions, and consistent action which led to a remarkable life.
So does he see the turn round as simply a change in mindset, or is it much more than that?
And does he look back and think, if only I started earlier, or did he need to go through the rough times, to get to the true waiting path?

There comes a time with doing a show like Join Up Dots, when you meet someone who starts off as purely a guest and then they become a personal friend, and that is certainly the case with todays guest.
Back on episode 93 of Join Up Dots, he spoke with passion as to his journey to the success that he has had in life.
From living on noodles everyday, to achieving his first million, from turning his fathers business into a success, to finding himself wondering what success means to him.
It was a great conversation that showed that anyone can start from nothing and work towards success, as long as you are conscious of the actions that you need to take.
And that word conscious has become the key word to his whole branding.
He believes that it is up to us to make decisions, make plans, and focus on where we want to end up.
And not simply to give it passing thoughts when we aren't doing anything.
But to be truly conscious of everything we need to do to achieve our dream life's.
And now with the relaunch of his best selling book, Conscious Millionare: Grow Your Business By Making A Difference he is bringing this message to the masses once again.
And taking huge action to ensure his aims come true, claiming his full power.
As he says "The exact moment you make a conscious decision to stop believing that life is happening to you and begin taking conscious control over your destiny, you start reclaiming your
power. This is what it means to become conscious: it is assuming full responsibility for what you achieve and the fulfillment you have along your journey."
So we have so much to discuss, as we help you all to achieve your full power.
So its with great delight that I get to bring onto the show, once more, the one and only Mr JV Crum III

Todays guest on Join Up Dots is a lady that I was told three or four times "Have you had her on the show now"
And looking back through the archives I realised with shame that I hadn't, so it with delight that she is now.
As she is a lady that can shed light on a problem that we all suffer with this (or at least those of us that don't know that there is a different way)
As she says "Are you someone who is burned out from working hard for many years yet afraid to step back out of fear of losing all you've gained?
Are your work obligations keeping you from having deeply meaningful relationships with your family and friends?
Do you feel stuck in a situation that takes everything you've got yet know there has to be more to life...an ultimate state of joy, satisfaction, and fulfilment. Maybe you've found yourself fantasizing about the possibilities but still nothing changes.
I want you to know you don't have to stay in this stressful state of mind and that relief is possible."
So how did she come to this realisation that there was another way?
Well as she shares "I spent 22+ years working in the world of finance, pouring myself into earning a high salary, collecting great bonuses and moving up the ladder.
This worked for a while and I reached great success, even becoming a millionaire by 37. However, after facing a major life crisis followed by several tragedies, the luster started to wane and the material success wasn't enough to fill the growing void inside...which left me wondering if I could ever have both inner fulfilment and outer wealth."
So does she feel that you have to go through these tough times, to truly find the lightness in your life?
Is this the way that life operates and we learn more from the stresses and hardships?
Well let's find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots, with the one and only Leisa Peterson.

Todays guest on Join Up Dots is a man who believes each person is potentially an expert in something. So he mentors and trains professionals, small business owners and anyone who wants to build their expert platform, on how to more effectively build and market their services and expertise to the marketplace.
His vision is to create a community connecting life and business experts to the marketplace.
As he says " A perfect world is finding relationships that can create true win/win. And that is what I look for, a truly reciprocal relationship where both sides benefit. Sometimes you like someone and would love to find a way to work with them, but there just isn’t enough common ground to make it work."
Well with a track record of working and being more than work colleagues with such well known names as Jim Rhon, Brian Tracy, Zig Ziglar, Les Brown to name just a few, he is obviously a man who knows how to attract and most importantly support the people of influence.
And what I loved about the information that I read about him was this simple statement "If you can be valuable, especially to valuable people, you will attract great things."
In 1993 he founded and became President of Jim Rohn International and in 1999 he founded and became President of YourSuccessStore.com.
He has promoted hundreds of seminar events over the past twenty plus years, and many, many self development DVDs, books and merchandise that is grabbed eagerly each time he finds time to release a new one.
So was his path always going to be linked to where he is today?
Or does he look back and join up his dots, with as much surprise and delight as the rest of us?
Well lets find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots, with the one and only Mr Kyle Wilson.

Todays guest joins a select band of guests who have appeared on the show more than once.
She joined up her dots in her life, way back on episode 125, where she shared how she had found her thing in life and worked towards being a player-coach, entrepreneur, author, speaker, and mentor to professionals around the world, helping them grow their businesses and live amazing lives.
She empowers others to dream big and go for what they truly want.
At that time we spoke about releasing her latest book Vision to Reality: How Short Term Massive Action Equals Long Term Maximum Results where she taught her clients the way to an empowering future, by taking frequent and consistent action, as she has done not least moving eleven times to eleven different states in the USA through her life.
Now, she has a new book out and its an interesting concept where she breaks down the rules of Business Dating.
By looking closely at how we operate within our processional and personal lives, and has drawn enlightening parallels between personal and professional dating.
She makes the case for why and how you should invest your time into building meaningful and long-lasting relationships with a select group of dynamic professionals.
Fostering these win-win relationships, which can yield gains greater than anything you could imagine, and it will be faster and easier than you think.
So let's not waste anymore time, and bring onto the show to join up more dots, and of course discuss relationship building with the one and only Honoree Corder.

Todays guest on Join Up Dots is a man who has been a small business owner for the last 18 years, and has learnt the hard way that to allow a business to thrive,.
He believes that this means as much allowing the owner to thrive than anything else.
Leaving Sienna Heights College with a Bachelor's Degrees in, Business Administration and Management, our guest set about creating one of the most successful martial arts schools in the State of Washington.
Miller's Martial Arts Academy has become a key part of the neighbourhood for nearly twenty years, and is not just about teaching his pupils to break bricks with their heads (to be honest Im not even sure that this is what they do), but to teach children of all ages appropriate life skills which boost their self confidence.
It teaches them responsibility, persistence, commitment and all the other things that will help the transition to adult hood and a successful life.
And now with his new platform De-Mythify he is out to help the adults of the world, particularly the small business owners who have created income in their lives, but end up disliking the very thing that they have built.
As he says "I have spoken to lots of burnt out business owners over the last nearly 20 years. I do not think you wake up not wanting to be a business owner. While, certainly, there could be a single event that sours you to the passion of being an business owner, that kind of change of heart only happens over time. It’s what I call the “death by a million paper cuts”. An owner has so many “plates spinning”– get this task going, now go do that task, hey we are out of toilet paper, John called off again, we lost our best customer, customer z is complaining again. All these little things add up so that the cumulative effect is that you wake up hating the thing that you truly loved doing just a few years ago."
He seems a man who not only still loves what he is doing, but is now finding extra speed and energy because of that passion.
He has found his thing (amongst being a rare horse breeder) and a real estate investor, and wants others to find theirs too.
So how has he managed to stay energised, and keep all those plates spinning day after day, and come back for even more plates?
And is there the right way to start a business, before even the first cheque hits the doormat?
Well lets find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots with the one and only Mr Korbett Miller

Todays guest has come onto the show to share his story, as he works towards the life that he truly wants.
Perhaps, he is already at that point already, and he can't believe tha this life can get any better either.
Starting his career in the education system, he has from his first working days been a person that looks to build health and wellness into his life.
He focused on coaching triathlon programmes as a Personal Trainer, Triathlon Coach, Youth and Junior Triathlon Development for Tri-Fi Health and Wellness and Chelsea Peirs, particularly looking at ways to tackle the problem of childhood obesity.
But these activities were just the foundation to where he is now, with his online platform the Traveling Cup, and of course a podcast thrown into the mix too.
In the summer of 2013, a former student met him for coffee.
And after a bit of catching up, he leaned in and confessed something. Fresh out of college, he needed our guests help.
He said, "I just graduated and want to make sure that the next steps I take allow me to have tremendous impact in the world. To help make the world a better place. What tips do you have? I feel a little lost. College didn't really prepare me for this."
So how did he feel when he heard his statement?
Did the angels start singing and a light shine down upon his head, showing him the next stage of his life, or did he just think "Well I think I can help this guy, but I don't know about anyone else?"
Well let's find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots, with the one and only Mr Mark W Guay

Todays guest is a man who is really going after it in a big way.
With five multimillion-dollar business success stories to his name in industries as vastly different as telecommunication, construction, and nationally accredited education, Matthew has been characterized as a true differentiation, niche marketing, and sales systemization powerhouse.
Just like everyone else, he had to overcome many hardships throughout his life, some perhaps harder than others.
Due to a disability, he had a reading speed of a sixth grader at the age of 18, resulting in introversion and an extreme lack of confidence.
In 2007, he fell victim to a glassing to the face, which took 26 stitches, painful plastic surgery, and more than five years to heal.
While others may have let these misfortunes hold them back, he has used them to learn and turned them into advantages that he now shares with others.
His favorite saying is, “You decide every moment of every day who you are and what you believe in, you get a second chance every second”.
And now even though he is only in his early 30's he has a life that has covered many of the dots we see on Join Up Dots.
The good times, the bad times, the successes and failures which have all lead him to where he is today.
So does he look back ever on his life and reflect at the decisions that he has made, that placed him in situations that were out of his control, such as the glassing in 2007?
And does he see where he is, as just the start. Does he see the willingness to overcome these things, as just the loading of the rocket power for his ultimate blast off?
Well lets find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots with the one and only Mr Matthew Pollard.

I love it when you start researching a guest to have them on Join Up Dots, and you see a huge amount of facts on their about page, not least a big square "It all begins with mind-set"
Well todays guest has a history that so many of us will resonate with, as we start on our careers, looking for the ultimate success that we believe is our god given right.
But unfortunately more often than not the big man in the sky, doesn't help us out, and instead we have to go through the hard times before making that decision that it's down to us and nobody else.
Well, our guy today graduated college with a similar tale to so many people coming out of the education system.
He was $80,000 in debt (mostly student loans), had an empty bank account (~$100 at most times), a middle-class mind-set, and lots of ambition, but also stress, fear, lack of confidence, and a lot of uncertainty about what to do with his life.
Well let's then tell you that whilst working in the corporate world, even with that uncertain start to his working life, he managed to pay off his debt in under 3 years, retire’ at the age of 27, travelled around the world (25 countries and counting!), have well into the 6-figures in 3 different accounts, created his own investing algorithm, and started his first side business which led to a gross income of more than $100,000 every year (between salary, bonuses and investments), and here is the kicker....
Most importantly, he found personal freedom, confidence, peace of mind, and ultimately, happiness.
As he says "I don’t say any of this to brag (actually, my biggest fear in the world is to come off as a bragger). I say this to show you what you can achieve, and that I’ve learned some things that work very well."
So how has he managed to find the way to the kind of life that so many people want, but can't truly believe should be theirs to have?
And does he look back at his starting point and ever think....if I could only go back in time with the knowledge I have now...."Wow....what a ride it would be?"
Well lets find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots, with the one and only Mr Austin Netzley.

Todays guest is known as one of the top direct response marketing consultants in the startup and online entrepreneurship communities.
He’s famous for generating for his clients six and seven figure revenue breakthroughs, and doubling their time off, all while they live, work and play anywhere in the world.
And isn’t that we all want. The ability to blend work and vacations, so one becomes the other and vice versa.
As a coach, advisor and mentor to over 400 founders (plus several hundred Foolish Adventure students), he has developed systems for helping entrepreneurs discover their strengths, build their authority and skyrocket their revenue.
In 2004, he moved away from Portland, Oregon and finally broke free of in-person consulting, and since that time, Tim has made use of mobile technologies to allow him to live, work and play anywhere, too.
Just recently he spent a month traveling around Bali while running his high-end mastermind (global), coached 3 entrepreneurs (2 in US, 1 in Australia) and finished up a consulting project for a client in China.
Through his posts, podcasts and coaching, he will help us all do the same — gain the freedoms of Time, Income and Mobility by transforming your business.
He has a passion for living, enjoying himself, inspiring others and saying goodbye to the self limiting thinking that traps so many of us.
So how did he grasp the ultimate productity mind-set that works so amazingly well to achieve the big goals and the big life experiences too?
And does he look at the world in general and think “Put on new glasses people…you just can’t see what time you are wasting!”
Well lets find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots, with the one and only Mr Tim Conley

Todays guest on Join Up Dots is a lady who is inspiring the world to tackle issues that could affect all of us in our lives.
Hopefully it doesn’t, but if it does then she has shown that it shouldn’t be the end of our lives, but simply just another stage of what makes up our lives.
Diagnosed with Mantle Cell Lymphoma in 2012 the author resorted to a blog to keep in touch with friends, and unwittingly ended up writing about the good, the bad and the ugly side of cancer, which attracted many followers.
Is there a good?
Very possibly. Bad and ugly, definitely.
There is also an extremely funny side – wry observations that brought humour into an otherwise bleak landscape which included chemotherapy and a stem cell transplant.
And I think that says so much of how life is generally, and what makes Join Up Dots such a powerful concept.
Are the bad times, the good times, and the good times the bad times?
Who truly knows.
But what we do know is that we will learn more from the moments of our lives that challenge us, than the ones where everything goes our way.
So the moment when she was told the news of her illness, was this a complete shocker or had she realised that something was right?
And has she been amazed by the support that blogging her way through this illness has brought into her life?
Well let’s find out as we bring onto the show, to start joining up dots with the one and only Margaret Cahill

Todays guest is a man who has been helping clients from varied industries get their businesses to the top of search engines for quite awhile.
With an eye for design, strategy, and incredible expertise, together with his team they will create a marketing campaign that is perfect for your business.
But this is a strange one, or it seems from the outside, but in perfect Join Up Dots fashion I'm sure we will be able to make sense of it by the end of the show.
Born and raised in San Diego, at a young age he received a magic kit as a present, and after quickly learning every trick he could, he started charging neighbourhood kids to see his magic shows.
Throughout high school he would routinely perform at private parties and corporate events on the weekend then go to school during the week.
He realized that people will pay top dollar for quality entertainment, and so two magic companies as a way to offer his magic services to the public were born.
But to be honest even before we have brought the guy onto the show, you can see that to become either an entrepreneur or a magician means that you have to get used to failure.
It takes years to be able to master either of the professions.
It's that stickability that helps you get to the top, and most importantly keeps you there?
So has he always been able and willing to flex his old hustle muscle and get out and about to make things happen?
And would he ever have the desire to end up the new David Copperfield and have a three year residency in Vegas?
Well let's find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots with the one and only Mr Josh London.

Todays guest is someone who has been shooting for the stars since beginning his professional life.
You see he started his career as a pilot for the Republic of Singapore Air Force, and from 1980 until 2006, would run around shouting in best Top Gun fashion "I feel the need, the need for speed!"
Well actually I'll be honest that is just my own little fantasy, and he may never had said that, but it is true that for twenty six years he was a helicopter pilot and flight Instructor.
And within that time he must have seen thousands, or at least hundreds of hugely ambitious individuals pass in front of him, eager to prove themselves to their colleagues, family and of course themselves.
Looking to take their performance to the highest levels they possibly can.
And I wonder whether this environment was the place that nurtured his desire to help people achieve personal excellence, he started a new company REV to do just that – motivate and guide people to their peak performance.
He realized that his gift and purpose in life is to help people on their way to the dream lives.
The lives that they deserve.
And that is what he does from his two bases, in Shanghai and Singapore, and it seems he loves every second of doing it too?
So I suppose the key questions are why did he leave the military after being in it for so long?
And does he see what he is doing now as his real role in life, or is this just to fill a gap that was left by the high octane testosterone filled life in the Air Force?
Well let's find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots, with the one and only Mr Jeff Tann

Throughout his successful career as an engineer for Boeing, NASA and the US Army, our guest entrepreneur today spent forty years of his own time researching the philosophies of ancient wisdom, and many other schools of thought to answer the fundamental questions we should all ask ourselves sometimes in our lives.
Why are we here?
What is our purpose?
How might we live it better
As he says, “I’ve been a seeker of truth for as long as I can remember. I recall as a teenager sitting in church looking at all the pomp and ceremony and thinking “I don’t know what truth is, but this isn't it!”
So began a quest to find the answers to these questions and of course to understand himself as well as he can too leading to great success.
Taking advantage of his extensive training, he voraciously studied all the major religions and their origins.
He read the ancient texts like the Books of the Dead, and The Kyballion.
He studied the eastern and western philosophers from Pythagoras to Plato from Lao to Emerson.
As a trained engineer he studied all the sciences including quantum mechanics, relativity, cosmology, anthropology, and archeology.
He even studied reincarnation, mystics, UFO’s. “I wanted to look at reality from every perspective I could think of,” he offers.
His book, The Endless Journey, is the culmination of his personal quest.
It is a straight forward non-religious book, which is supported by many medical and scientific studies, offering a very understandable explanation of our world and the spiritual world in which we reside after death.
It explains our nature and provides uplifting guidance on how to make the most out of our lives.
Especially when we say ‘yes’ to the experience as spiritual beings.
This last statement is a huge part of life, and one that we can skip over quite quickly time and time again…..saying “yes” to the opportunities that surround us everyday.
So of course the big question too all this research is has he answered the questions about himself, or after 40 years is he still as confused as the rest of us?
And as a scientist how did he manage to research and not dismiss some of the more out there concepts that appear in his book?
Well lets find out as we bring onto the show, to start joining up dots with the one and only Mr David Gaggin.

Todays guest is an award-winning author, adventurer and sustainability campaigner specializing in human-powered expeditions.
Now if you don't you what this means, just remember the last time you thought you would pop to the shops, and you think "I'll take the car, it will be so much easier"
Well our guest today is recognised by Guinness World Records as the first person to circumnavigate the Earth without using motors or sails.
Walking, cycling, and inline skating five continents, and kayaking, swimming, rowing, and pedalling a boat across the rivers, seas, and oceans.
This took thirteen years to complete, the 46,505-mile journey and was hailed “the last great first for circumnavigation” by the London Sunday Times.
But this is just a tiny part of what this guy is all about.
No life is more than just getting his name in the Guinness Book Of Records, as he has also visited more than 900 schools in 37 countries to date, involving thousands of students in a variety of programmes in conjunction with UNESCO’s Associated Schools Program Network.
He shares his tales of adventure and hardship to promote world citizenship, zero carbon emission travel, and awareness of individual lifestyle choices on the health of the planet.
This will be an amazing story of taking chances, inspiring the world, hardship, but savouring those life experiences that you can only get by putting yourself out there.
So when he was growing up in Catterick, Yorkshire, in Northern England was he inspired by the world and loved nothing more than flicking through the pages of an Atlas?
Can you just go into countries wherever you want or do you have to find the border crossings?
And does he get told by everyone that he meets that "Jason, I would love to be doing what you do" and think "Well why aren't you then?"
Well let's find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots, with the one and only Mr Jason Lewis.

Todays guest, willing to spends some time with us Joining up dots, first began his working life as a sales professional in the technology industry after graduating from Miami University (OH) with a degree in Marketing and Entrepreneurship.
And as he says in his own words "It didn’t take long for me to notice and experience first hand the friction between generations in the workplace."
The guys that were happy to come to work everyday and do their stuff, because quite simply that is what they had always done.
And then the younger group. The next generation who thought and acted differently due to their belief that life should be different to that of their parents.
In fact it's not so much as a belief, but is a firm expectation that things are going to move on, and they will be at the forefront of that movement.
So to better understand this workplace issue, our guest began researching, collaborating with industry experts, and interviewing 100s of Millennials to better understand their behavior, strengths, employer expectations, and career desires.
Which lead to him to write the book, “The GenEdge: Leveraging Millennials With A Next Generation Mindset,” which empowers leaders to think differently about the emerging generation in order to capitalize on their size and unique skills.
Now he shares his insights from the stage where he has spoken alongside fellow thought leaders from iconic brands like MTV, Facebook, and Uber for the last 7+ years.
He also shares his insights as a contributor for many different platforms, not least his own podcast.
Is there anyone who hasn't got one of these?
So why was he so attuned to the friction that occurs within todays workplace, as isn't it just a sample of what life is like anyway nowadays?
And does he see this friction as a great thing that will speed us on to greater and greater endeavours, or just keep the brakes squealing away as we try to move forward?
Well let's find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots, with the one and only Mr Ryan Jenkins

Todays guest has a wonderful tale of how she got to her point of success today.
Starting probably as far away as she could from the motivational, success fuelled powerhouse she is today, who inspires ladies across the world to stop surviving and start thriving in life and business.
She started her own personal journey in the Military, where she did nearly ten years working for Uncle Sam with the 309th Field Medical Company.
And we see this time and time again, that although a million miles from the corporate route, it actually sets amazing foundations and organizational skills that can be used to maximum effect when becoming a civilian again.
And this certainly seems the case for todays guest, as from this point onwards you can see the dots joining up big-time, as she built up her confidence and talents by working in multiple roles within the sales, training, and leadership areas, and even performing roles on and off Broadway.
She is the CEO of LS Consulting and an International Speaker, and in her spare time the international host of "Empowering Women - with Lauran Star "
She believes that we all have the skills and talents inside us to literally create the life of our dreams.
We just have to start tapping into our personal power and blast our way to the gold.
We need to find the time that we actually have in abundance, but are using the wrong way.
So does she look at her time in the military as the perfect grounding to where she is now?
Or would she have liked to have the extra ten years, now she has really found her thing and is blasting forward on a daily basis?
Well lets find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots, with the one and only Lauran Star

I am delighted to have todays guest on the show, as this man really sold himself to me, with an amazingly detailed email summarising his life asking to come on the show.
And believe me, if I had known about him beforehand, he wouldn't have needed to contact me, he would have been first on my list.
He has an amazing tale, which is pure Join Up Dots all the way.
So lets share with you a few of the things that he told me, before we bring him onto the show.
I spent 20 years doing work I hated before deciding I couldn't go on.
I decided I HAD to learn my Life's Purpose and meditated on the answer to that question for a year and was rewarded one night with a dream that inspired me to become a teacher.
My life eventually fell apart / Dark Night of the Soul ensued. I lost my home, my teaching job, my marriage, and my pride. I decided to take my own life but a sudden flash of light gave me the hope I needed to just keep going. I started healing my life from the inside out. I attended a men's group, therapy, 12 Step work, etc to work through my issues.
Well if that doesn't lead us into the most amazing show, then I don't know what will.
So how did he go from this point, and dragged himself to the point where he could make the life changing leap of faith?
And does he now look back and see the things that he was doing wrong, and see clearly how he has replaced them with the things he is now doing right.
Well lets find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots with the one and only Mr Geoff Akins

Today's guest entrepreneur on Join Up Dots, is a teacher, a mom, student of life, a speaker, bestselling author, TV host, former radio host, executive coach, and mentor.
But before you think that this is a lady who mentors you by helping you find the “Inner Self” that is just waiting for you to tap into, then think again.
She isn’t one those ladies that help find your inner potential and whoosh like a rocket ship, you will shoot your way to your true future.
The kind of future that you deserve.
Our guest instead has found that you can live your Ultimate Success, by studying the consistencies or repetitions in history, the reasons behind “what happened”.
What are the patterns that occur time and time again that can send us on the slippery slope to despair and failure, and what are the ones that will lead us onto success.
With her proven 5-step program, she helps all of us identify our consistencies and which of those consistencies require our attention as they may be those patterns that prevent you from having all the success you can have.
As she says “After all, if we keep doing the same thing, how can we expect different outcomes?”
Now this seems to me to be an amazingly common sense approach to me, so why do we not a focus in on the power of patterns in our own lives?
And can she see a time in her life, when this wasn’t something that she was aware off too?
Well lets find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots, with the one and only Dr Natalie Forest

It is very lucky that we have todays guest on the show, as quite simply its rare that we can get her away from the beach.
Yep, she loves nothing more than frolicking around in the surf and the sand, whilst earning an income at the same time.
I know what you are thinking "That can't be possible!! Days at the beach are for vacations and weekends, not for the working day"
But she certainly has turned that mind-set on its head, as she now lives in Tamarindo in Costa Rica, and teaches clients alongside her boyfriend Nick, how to feel fit and healthy.
She believes that your health and fitness is fundamental to living a full and happy life.
Not only can it change your body and allow you to experience more fun in the physical world, but also it creates a positive attitude that carries over into other parts of your life.
But this is one of those stories where you can see the dots joining up from her early age, as her Dad really installed a belief that a well-lived life was something to be nurtured and never taken for granted.
And from her base in San Francisco she was literally in touching distance of her partner and business partner Nick, and never got a chance to touch....or should I say meet.
So is this a life that looks totally glorious from the outside but is as hard work as going to a cubicle everyday?
And does she feel now that humans have to think bigger and bigger to reap the rewards that are out there for all of us?
Well lets find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots, with the one and only Julie Gohring

Todays guest has lived in the world of freelancing for quite a few years, since starting on what we like to call the Slide of Faith
Yep, todays guest didn't take the old leap of faith, but instead did lots of after work hours.
He came home everyday and instead of laying on the sofa watching "Breaking Bad" he provided freelance work for clients that he slowly built up.
And small steps, lead to big leaps, and after a while he had enough clients to be able to quit his job and freelance fulltime.
Now this was important dot on his join up dots timeline, but maybe not quite as big as a dawing realisation that came to him a little bit later on.
He realized that he was losing out on a lot of opportunities by staying small.
He needed to think bigger, to reap bigger rewards.
So he grew his company and over time opened up an office, expanded to a bigger office downtown, and quickly had eleven full-time salaried employees on the payroll, with clients all over the world, and some very recognizable brands coming to him for his expertise.
But life often will have different plans for us and this was certainly the case with todays guest.
As family and health reasons made him step away from my brick & mortar agency, and he now makes his living providing great software and products to freelancers and consultants from his upstairs office, with his wife and two girls just a room away.
He loves what he does, and loves helping others find the success that they are seeking within their own personal lives.
And now with his company We Are Titans doing better and better, life looks very good indeed.
So what does he get from freelancing and the entrepreneurial route that he didn't get by being an employee in a corporate gig?
And does he believe that all of us have a knowledge or skill that we can translate into an income stream if we decide?
Well lets find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots, with the one and only Mr Brennan Dunn.

Todays guest was one of the first people I ever heard interviewed on a show way back in the early days Of The Solopreneur Hour with Michael O’Neal.
So its an absolute delight to get him finally to start joining up his dots with us here today.
And one thing for sure is there are a lot of dots to join up, not least due to him being the author of six books, a creator of several businesses and thankfully being a cancer survivor, which of course will knock most people of their feet.
But how do you go about fighting a disease like that if you are already fighting to build a business, and literally cant afford the time off work to deal with the problem.
How do you manage to channel your energies in so many different areas, not least helping yourself to get well?
Well one thing for sure, this is a guy who when it comes to focusing on something seems to be able to do this better than most.
He knows the key elements that build and build and build until success comes knocking
And now with his sixth book just about to be published “Decide – The Success Triggers” he is once again going all out to build a community of loyal fans, that in the worlds of his own branding “Stick Like Glue” and lap every word he speaks.
In summary he is an entrepreneur, author, speaker, coach to other entrepreneurs, and the host of the weekly podcast, Stick Like Glue Radio.
So how did he get going, when at the beginning there are so many possible routes to take?
And does he see his life as one that was always going to happen, or one that he can quite firmly say he created himself?
Well lets find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots with the one and only Mr Jim Palmer.

Todays guest joining us ready to be interviewed on the motivation packed Join Up Dots is a remarkable lady who has been introduced to the show by the brilliant Cathy O'Dowd who appeared on the show way back on episode 88.
Now this episode is going to get us all thinking about what is possible in life.
The kind of lifestyle we could possess if we only stop thinking of what could happen, and instead decided what will happen
And what we are capable of achieving in business, as the first thing that appeared when I checked her website out were these great words " Life is a journey to find out what you are capable of, yet it is one that people often shy away from"
She is an explorer and lover of the big challenges in life.
But life didn't start in such a grand fashion, as like most of us she started her career as far away from freedom as was possible in a corporate gig, and worked for British Gas.
Although it is true to say that even within an environment like this, she was out to prove a few things and became one the youngest employees ever to reach a Senior Management Role within the organisation.
But it was when made the decision to spend 3 moths in Kenya on her first expedition that her life truly changed forever
It was then she could start to see the first footsteps on the path that she has traveled ever since, and developed her belief that she was capable of more than she imagined possible..
In 2013, she celebrated twenty five years since she made her that first expedition to Kenya,
And since then she became an inspiration to many as the first British woman to ski to the Magnetic North Pole, which led onto expeditions to Antarctica, the Geographical North Pole and skiing with an international team across the Greenland Ice Cap.
These expeditions taught her the realities of leadership, managing change and maintaining motivation, which she now helps business leaders put into practice today through corporate coaching and keynote presentations.
So why did she decide to do that first three months in Kenya, and did she have to quit her job to do it, or did she have lovely bosses that allowed such a huge amount of annual leave?
And as we find time and time again on Join Up Dots, is it the true hardships that we learn from most, or do they just point us to the direction we should be moving?
Well let's find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots, with the one and only inspiration and entrepreneur Sue Stockdale.

Today's guest has been involved in the online world since before Google was even thought off....yes, hard to believe, but way back in 1994 she was operating as an Internet Sales Advisor.
Teaching early pioneers how to make money from eBooks, products and webinars.
As an early adopter of online marketing, she is considered to be one of the nation's most passionate speakers in the subject, being at the forefront of its explosion to where we are today.
She is known for cutting through the fluff and helping people leave their sob stories behind, so they can stop focusing on the past and start looking towards the future.
She speaks and teaches about what she believes are the core elements of a successful life: accountability, integrity, honesty, and living with passion and hope.
Now don't for a minute think that this is a story that goes only one way....upwards.
No, this is a story that in classic Join Up Dots style has the light and the dark, the good times and the bad, made from choices in her life that were somewhat erratic to say the best.
In her teens and early twenties she made decisions that took her from a comfortable middle-class upbringing to a life of homelessness and being unemployable.
But she rose above seemingly insurmountable odds to become an award winning business owner, bestselling author, Internet sales and marketing trainer, and award winning keynote speaker.
So why did a middle-class girl decide that she had to take the kind of decisions that some might be classed as risky, when most would take the comfortable route?
And how did she delve into the Internet and be so ahead of the curve and everything that has engulfed us since?
Well let's find out as we bring onto the show, to start joining up dots, with the one and only Kathleen Gage.

Today's guest entrepreneur joining us on the Join Up Dots podcast interview is a lady who believes totally in the mission that she started back in, well actually it seems like something that has been in her since a small girl.
She is driven by the belief that everyone has something significant to contribute and when people (male or female) come together and support one another; “We are truly Better Together.”
She has total freedom of choice to go about creating the career success that she wants in her life, by being committed to helping individuals discover their talent and connect to the right circle of people to live out their purpose.
And that really is a key point to building success in ones life.
Surround yourself with the right people who can complement your own strengths, and make your best even better.
Setting her career out on firm foundations she left Loyola Marymount University wth a BA in Business/Political Science and started working for Accountants Overload as an account executive.
She then moved onto Robert Half International and did ten years, before becoming an Area Manager and Trainer for New Century Mortgage.
And what is most impressive is due to her outlook, and positive disposition she appears to have built on the connections that she gained at these companies, and instead of simply walking away from them, built upon them.
The no experience wasted theory, working hand in hand with no personal relationship should be wasted either.
Now she has many plates spinning at one time, with commentator, author, public speaker, and President of several global networks, as well as being a mother and wife of her beloved husband Eric all on her schedule.
So how has she done all this and still look like she is in her early twenties?
And does she see networking, and building connections as the major piece of the puzzle that people miss out on for fear of not having anything to offer?
Well let's find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots, with the one and only entrepreneur Michelle Patterson.

Todays guest on Join Up Dots is a lady who I got introduced to by the wonderful Neen James that you would have heard back on episode 258 of Join Up Dots
She said David..."you have to get this hot chick on your show...she is amazing!"
Well I'm not going to turn down an introduction like that, and I can see why she feels that she is so amazing when you read in her own words.
"Who am I? I am busy, just like you. I want to live long and live STRONG, and I don’t want to obsess about it. I don’t want to rely on the expiring resource that is willpower, I want a lifestyle that works. I want my red wine, my dark chocolate, and I still want to bounce a quarter off my abs.
I don't want to "look good for my age," I want to get BETTER every day, every year. I want to track my progress and help you with yours. I am not a fitness professional, nor a health practitioner. I am a full-time business owner, a part-time triathlete, a woman with a family and a lot of responsibility, just like you. I do not have all of the answers, AND I WILL NEVER BE FINISHED, and that is the fun."
But this isn't a story about a lady who loves springing around, and balancing upside down on her head on surfboards (yep, im sure we will discuss this image later), but one of a hardworking business lady who has constantly upskilled herself and developed since starting her working life like me as a corporate trainer.
Funnily enough our lives also intertwined as she also worked as a consultant for a UK-based firm supporting the Royal Bank of Scotland/Natwest's customer growth objectives, to whom I worked for both companies in my past too.
She is the co-founder of The Trivista Group, where she supports multi-national organizations in building value through new business model development, innovative customer and supplier initiatives, and other advancements, whilst also spending as much time as she can in the outdoors training for Marathons and Ironman competitions
As well as being the host of the wellness based podcast and platform On Air With Ella you can see that she is right and she is super busy.
So does she have a way of finding more time in the day than anyone else?
And does she see her current path as exactly where she should be, or is it still part of the longer journey of life?
Well lets find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots, with the one and only Elizabeth Lucas-Averett

Todays guest on Join Up Dots is a beautiful lady who wants the world to realise that we need to break the good girl rules, and to become authentic to ourselves.
In short stop playing the roles that people expect you to play, and instead be who you are and what you were put on this world to be.
Back in 1982, she entered and the Miss USA competition by doing just that.
At the end of the competition she was asked by the host Bob Barker "“So what do you do in Cabot, Arkansas, on a Saturday night?”
And instead of getting the answer "I spend time looking after injured animals, and teaching the homeless algebra" she answered with "“In the summer, we cruise up and down Main Street. Then we go to the Tastee Freeze, sit on the back of my friend’s pickup truck, he plays the banjo, and the guys drink a little beer and dip a little Skoal. It’s a real good time.”
And guess what arise 1982's Miss USA
She is the author of several books, including “The Enlightened Mom: A mother’s guide for bringing peace, love and light to your family’s life,” WINNER ~ 2011 Best Spiritual Book of the Year at both New York and San Francisco Book Festivals, and has the mission is to help you let go of society’s rules that tell you how to ACHIEVE love, happiness and success, and, instead, honor and love the way you were created.
So does she remember planning her answer to Mr Bob Barker before hand, or was it something that she just had on the tip of her tongue and blurted it out?
And obviously with the glamour that comes with winning a prestigious competition such as Miss USA, did she enjoy the trappings and the aforementioned glamour, or was it simply living a dreamlife that she was pleased to leave behind.
Well lets find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots, with the one and only Terri Britt.

Todays guest on Join Up Dots is a man with huge faith in his religion and also himself.
He is an a family man, with pure hustle muscle running through him, and a desire to take on many different roles in his life.
Growing up in Texas, he has, since being a small boy, been a paper boy, a grocery bagger, delivery driver, cable TV disconnect-er to name just a few of the roles he has undertaken, but through all of them you can see a thread that connects them all.
At his core it seems to me that he has an interest in people and serving others.
It is that ability to connect with people, of all demographics that has lead to him to the life that he is living today.
And that is where I get a bit stuck, as I cant quite see where he is today.
He is an author of both fiction and non-fiction, he is a podcaster, he is a pastor, and he is an entrepreneur.
Well lets just say that he is very busy man, with a drive to never have anyone say at his funeral “He had such potential…”
So the key questions that I feel are only right to ask him are:
What would he describe himself if he was met by a pretty lady in a bar (its ok his wife Mindi, won't hear this bit!)
And does he see the rocket power that we need to go for the life of dreams, as enthusiasm, talent or just an idea?
Well lets find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots, with the one and only Mr Carey Green.

I love doing this job, as you get to speak to people like todays guests.
And for so many people who are out there looking for the straight road to success this is a guest who has firmly been on the winding curve, some might say the squiggly route to success for decades.
Starting her career way back in 1980 our guest was firmly on the path linked to Health and Safety in the workplace, or school.
She trained and presented courses on a wide range of safety issues and it seemed this was her thing for several years.
But it was when she stepped into the world of sales and marketing that she really started to find a path where the light of success began turning in her direction.
And it seems obvious now you see what she is doing in her life, and loving what she was doing too.
As she says "My heart and passion is marketing and sales".
She is an entrepreneur, trainer and author of PayDay2Profits which is a guide for converting contacts to cash from corporations to individuals,.
Managing your network for maximum impact on your bank balance
But dig deeper and you can see that the only reason that she has become so successful is as much to do with the things that she no longer does, than the things that she loves.
She needed to go through the curves, to find the foundations that made her ready to go up a gear.
So how much of what she does now in her life can she see connecting to her younger self?
And does she feel that she was only going to be a success in one field, or does confidence breed a belief that success can be transferred wherever you want to go?
Well lets find out as we bring onto the show, to start joining up dots with the one and only Mary Vidarte.

Todays guest is an English author, who believes totally that "Small Habit Changes Lead To Massive Results Over Time."
But he didn't start his career by putting pen to paper, and delivering book after book to the shelves of Amazon and other popular book shops.
No instead he spent many years studying Chinese martial arts, was a professional firefighter, entrepreneur, and a UK based Certified Personal Trainer and Sports & Exercise Nutrition Coach, gaining this nutritional qualifications from the esteemed Precision Nutrition.
But you might think that means that he is a self development nut, looking for the ultimate version of himself.
But no think again.
Because as we see time and time again, that when someone focuses in on improving themselves it will more often that not lead to them looking to share their knowledge with the world.
And he is no different, as he has found a passion and a commitment for educating people on the benefits of living a healthy lifestyle.
He gets huge amounts of joy and satisfaction from educating people on the benefits of living a healthy, vibrant, meaningful, and playful life.
So did he always want to be the finest physical specimen that he could make himself?
And what is the biggest mistake that people make in trying to get their own momentum going.
Well lets find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots, with the one and only Mr Stephen Reed

Well it's not often that you read on a persons LinkedIn profile such bit of essential business building information such as "I'm interested in muscle cars, classic rock (Pink Floyd, The Eagles), vinyl records, the ocean, sunshine, Apple products and concerts. I’m known as ♫ The LinkedIn Rockstar ♫, but I don’t work for LinkedIn."
And that, as we see time and time again on Join Up Dots is the profile of someone that is having fun, being authentic and rocking it bigtime.
Starting his career as an IT professional in Phoenix Arizona is seems to me that he was either a man on a mission or someone who got bored with roles quite easily.
As he moved every few years from one position to another, seemingly looking for his thing, but of course gaining experience as he went.
But it was when he moved into the career of Event planning and Networking that it all came together.
He had found his thing, and now with his own radio show, a passion for Key Note speaking and motivational presentations and of course sharing LinkedIn best practices he is loving everyday.
He is being true to himself, playing to his strengths and earning a living whilst doing it!
So what was it about LinkedIn that really got him excited enough to build a whole business around it?
And why does he feel that we all seem to go through the same search at the beginnings of our careers?
Well let's find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots with the one and only Mr Mike O'Neil, the LinkedIn Rockstar.

Todays guest on Join Up Dots is an amazing lady with such a huge heart, and the drive to tackle the kind of challenges that would make me quite simply climb back into bed.
Shortly she is going to start rowing herself around the British Isles on the Great British Viking Quest, which is a 3000 mile, single-handed circumnavigation of Great Britain in a purpose built ocean rowing boat, retracing the oar strokes of Viking seafarers, warriors, and conquerors.
The expedition brings ocean literacy, environmental, and STEM (Science, Technology, engineering, and Maths) education alive for students worldwide in the 21st century.
Funds raised will provide education to disadvantaged young people worldwide, helping every child 'go for gold' and to be successful in whatever they do in life.
As she says "I'm passionate about the world, scuba diving, human beings, and the experiences that life brings us. I love my job, and I feel very privileged to do what I am doing.
So how has a lady that spent two years walking peoples dogs around the English Countryside, ended up following in the watery path of the United Kingdoms Norwegian invaders?
And does she feel that is just the start to more and more increasingly challenges that she can see on the horizon?

Todays guest is one of those that I feel we will need to have on the show more than once.
The first time, in true Join Up Dots fashion we need to delve deeply into what makes the man tick and discover how he went from being an employee to the creator of several very successful online businesses.
Starting his working life in Construction, and then moving into architecture it seems to me that at his core is a man who loves building stuff.
I can imagine him now as a small child with a box of Lego, or pens and paper, laying on the floor as he planned some new invention or creature out of his imagination.
So after leaving the "corporate world" in 2009, he started Gateway CFO Solutions primarily working as an outsourced CFO for small businesses, leveraging the networks he had built online and off.
As he says "By 2011, some of my clients started noticing the things I was doing on LinkedIn to grow my business and asked me if I could help them do the same. One of them hired me to do it for them, and that's when LinkedSelling was born. Since then, our company has seen exponential growth and we've started LinkedUniversity.com, Webinarli, and Onward Magazine."
So as I say, Im sure there are so many of you that are thinking "ok , how can I do the same...and I'll be honest I had the very same thought"
So without further ado, lets bring onto the show, to start joining up dots with the one and only, Mr Josh Turner.

Todays guest is a man who when it comes to starting a business, and taking it to huge success is really in the zone.
He knows that when there is a risk to take, to give himself a chance of achieving his dreams, he will find that risky thing and tackle it head on.
As he says in his own words "One of the things that has been huge in my life is "starting over," or "moving to the next stage." For me it's always been much more drastic than most people (moving to a new country, starting a new company with no contacts, etc) -- but it help to always keep in mind the following:
"What a caterpillar calls the end of the world, the master calls a butterfly"
And with that simple philosophy, he has from his base in Japan become the Founder and CEO of Delfi-Net and Summit Evergreen and created the consultancy business with an appealing tagline "I Will Teach You To Be Rich"
So what is it about the start over principal that fills him with delight, when it fills so many with fear?
And does he have a track record of complete success, or like all of us, did it take him awhile to get going and find his thing?
Well let's find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots, the one and only Keith Perhac.

Todays guest is the go to expert if you have a desire to place your words onto paper and become a published author
He is an author, journalist and publisher, and his book 'Turning your knowledge into income' shares his philosophy that we all spend a lifetime making payments into our 'bank of knowledge' but end up with a dormant account because we don't make a withdrawal.
He believes that, right now, there is somebody, somewhere that would pay good money to know what you know.
All you need to do is to package up your knowledge in a form that they can buy it.
For people who want to raise their profile in their marketplace or who want to position themselves as an expert in their field, there is nothing like a properly published book to do that.
Fifteen years founded Filament Publishing Ltd fifteen years ago with the mission to help authors, not just to write and publish their book, but also to build a successful business around it.
But there is so much more to this man than what you heard so far, so without further ado its with great delight that we bring onto the show to start joining up dots, with the one and only Christopher Day.
Book publishing, book publishing Book publishing, book publishing Book publishing, book publishing

Todays guest on Join Up Dots is a man who seems to have cracked it big-time, and knows exactly what he was put on this planet to do.
And his mission is to make us the healthiest version of what we can be and live an amazing life everyday
But unlike so many of our guests who have a childhood that was less than perfect, his life started in a very different way.
As he says in his own words “I spent the first half of my childhood in a quiet suburban neighbourhood with all of the love and attention that a child could ask for.
I spent the second half of my childhood growing up in some of the most dangerous parts of the inner city, surrounded by gangs, drugs, alcohol, and violence on a daily basis.
I was able to gain so much from both environments, and I’m truly grateful for the life I’ve been given. The situations I was in helped me cultivate perspective, resourcefulness, and (most importantly) the power of choice.
However, it was in college that my entire world really changed. Not because of the education I was receiving, but because of the devastating illness that I was diagnosed with at the age of 20. Seemingly overnight I was in excruciating pain, I lost a great deal of function in my leg, and I could barely get from room to room in my house, let alone get around on campus anymore.
Essentially, my spine was deteriorating far faster than it was supposed to. And according to my doctor at the time, I had the spine of an 80-year old person, even though I was just a young college kid.”
And that was just the start of what would become life mission. Starting with getting himself healthy, he learnt so much that he could then share with the world.
And now being the founder of Advanced Integrative Health Alliance, a successful company that provides Wellness Services for both individuals and organizations worldwide, podcast host, and a dynamic keynote speaker life seems good…in fact very good.
So does he see people struggle in life as they haven’t had the good and the bad, so aren’t aware of what they can deal with?
And would he like to go back in time and change anything that has occurred whilst on this earth?
Well lets find out as we bring onto the show, to start joining up dots with the one and only Mr Shawn Stevenson

Todays guest entrepreneur joining us on the Join Up Dots is someone who I'll be honest I didn't realise his backstory when I first knew that he was going to be a guest on the show.
I had seen his name as someone who believes that he can instil the motivation into any of us to radically change all of our lives, so I had an impression of him simply being another life coach.
But how about when I tell you that although he is rocking and rolling and doing great work in the world of changing mind-set, and increasing positivity in his client lives, he is also an American screenwriter, screenplay consultant, script doctor, author and amazingly, at least it was to me, as stuntman too.
And it seems that the last role was one of his "Big Dots" that truly was the starting point to him becoming who he is today, as after a life-changing "brush with death" while making a movie, he left the stunt business and considered becoming a monk, then a minister, until instead he hid himself away in his apartment without TV or news and meditated for several years.
He emerged to become a licensed integrative therapist, best-selling author, and he actually adopted a monk, no not a monkey but an actual monk which is of course another story.
So what was his passion when he was a small child, and was it ore closely linked to who he is now, or that of who he was?
And where does he see this movement of people looking for self-belief going, as it seems bigger than it has ever been?
Well Lets find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots with the one and only motivation expert Mr Derek Rydall.

Todays guest has kindly given up their time to come on and inspire the world with their story and passions for tackling the big things in life.
And his life has seemed a constant state of having the best and worst that life can throw at you, but wanting to have even more come his way on top of that too.
He grew up in Queens New York, which had been made famous in so many Hollywood’s films that focus in on the criminal activities of the infamous Mafia Don, John Gotti.
His life was surrounded by scenes from the movie Goodfellas, and so it wasn’t a surprise that his mother felt that it would be a good time to move him and his sister upstate, away from such influences.
Which was not the best of time as our young budding entrepreneur was just starting to earn some money by selling fireworks.
Even as a young lad it was clear he was always going to be someone that would get out and flex the hustle muscle, as he was so inspired by his father entrepreneurial ventures, that he quickly grew his money making mind-set to go out and get his own cash.
However on the other side he was also being influenced heavily by mothers drive for a world of healthily living, healthy eating and building up the muscles and fitness to undertake extreme endurance and create the ultimate healthy lifestyle.
And those two parental influences really seemed to set the foundation to what our guest has since gone onto achieve.
Now he has founded the incredible movement known as the Spartan Race, where across the world over a million people have signed up and tackled the hardest of activities such as an eight mile sprint and the hardest of obstacle races.
So as with all guests on Join Up Dots does he look back and think that the path was always going to get him here, even when undertaking detours onto Wall Street and the Bed and Breakfast business?
And can he understand the appeal that make so many people want to test themselves to such extreme levels, whilst the rest of the world are happy giving the excuses of why they haven’t got the time for anything?
Well let's find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots, with the one and only Joe De Sena.

Todays guest on Join Up Dots is a man with a fascinating and somewhat intriguing branding of "The Suited Monk"
Now if you are thinking "I can't remember the last time I saw a monk in a suit?" then let me explain more.
How many times have you realised that you are living a life that is expected of you.
The kind of life that was always on the cards due to your surroundings, parents, friends and a myriad of other outside influences.
Well our guest today was considered to be successful in the corporate world at a young age by colleagues, friends and family.
However, his personal life was anything but successful.
He was deeply unhappy in his job, he was struggling to find a sense of purpose and meaning, and wanted more than anything to find happiness in his work and life environment.
Modern society exerts a constant, subtle pressure to conform to the expectations of others, and to seek a version of success that is acceptable to the people around us but that does not necessarily meet our own most heartfelt needs and desires.
Even if we manage to reach certain goals, the happiness they bring us rarely lasts long.
Because they aren't truly what we want.
How depressing is that...but so real to all of us too.
So he did something about getting rid of this feeling, and got off the path that he was on and now spends most of his time speaking and teaching on the subject of authenticity in life.
Finding the suited monk in all of us, where we can join our intuition, happiness, love, purpose, and life force (which is your inner Monk) with the external world of success and achievement (represented by the Suit you wear).
Once you do that he believes that you will be able to close the gap and tap into the vast abundance that exists within you, both in your professional life and personal relationships.
Wow, that sounds good doesn't it.
So, how did he come up with the Monk aspect of this concept?
And what did his family say when she said "Guys, I need to go out and do my own thing!"
Well let's find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots with the one and only Raf Adams.

Todays guest quite simply needs no introduction, but hey what kind of host would I be if I didn’t build him up for the big entrance?
So its Jack Canfield.
Well lets start with saying its rare that you will see a bookshelf or a library that doesn’t have one of his publications sitting amongst their ranks.
He is the author of the astonishingly successful series of books, that are the “Chicken Soup for the Soul” series, that has been sold the world over, and counts sales as somewhere beyond 123 million copies worldwide.
And the fact that Oprah can hardly state three words without speaking about her love for this book, then you know he has created something special.
But his life hasn’t always been one of success, and with three marriages under his belt and a less than spectacular start to his professional life, he knows both sides of what makes a fully realised life.
He has worked for a living as a psychotherapist, an educational consultant, and a trainer to name a few, but it was when he met Mr Mark Victor Hansen co-author of the Chicken Soup Series that things started to move in the direction that he visualised for himself.
And through those life experiences, or up and downs, successes and failures, he learnt the Success Principles, that he found were the key to create the life that you want.
And now ten years later from it first being released, he is re-publishing it, with greater insights as to what can make an amazing life, he is a man on a vision.
So does he see the up and downs are actually the key points to what gives a life success, are they the foundations to maintain the momentum gained?
And does he get told by every waiter in the world “Ah Mr Canfield, I expect you want to have the Chicken Soup tonight, ho ho ho!”
Well let’s find out as its with delight, that we bring onto the show to start joining up dots with the one and only Mr Jack Canfield.

Todays guest'solopreneur joining us on the join up dots top rated podcast, is a lady who like many of us had a path to where she is today, which was full of the kind of dots that you can't see at the time, but become crystal clear much later on in life.
She is the Creative designer at the design company Milanistudios in Houston Texas, where she spends her days helping small business with the kind of creative ventures that we all struggle with Video Services, Website Development and Multimedia Design.
But this isn't a story about an entrepreneurial leap of faith, but a story of waking up one day to take on a normal day, that would turn out to be extraordinary.
Back in 2010 her life was literally thrown into the air, when a freak accident happened to her, which of course happens to thousands of people everyday, but we never really feel that it will happen to us.
One day she was crossing the street, and a car came from nowhere and hit her, and that one incident changed her life and helped her re-discover her lifes purpose after losing track of it in her early 20's.
And now as sha says " I have picked up 100% and full steam ahead for the rest of my life. I created an initiative called Vivadivine. It’s geared toward conscious living, defining a purpose driven life and much more. I am also pursuing my goal to become a life coach."
But this goes much deeper than this, as the phrase VivaDivine had been one that she had been living with for over 26 years, and started in the most opposite of directions that you can imagine.
Yes, a close friend Granger Sanders coined the words, and now not a day will go by when she doesn't think "Man, those dots in my life so joined up"
So how did it come about that this alter ego was born, and stayed with her for so many years?
And would she look back on that dreadful day when her body took a pounding from the car and think "Thank god for that" or "God, I wish that had never happened?

Todays guest in an expert on branding a business to reflect personally your own identity.
She is of total belief that the personality of a business should be linked intrinsically with that of the owner.
If you are a serious and professional type then your branding you should emphasise that.
If you are a crazy, fun loving person, then hey throw caution to the wind.
As she says ” It’s time to Step in to YOUR power. I stood in your shoes. Anxious, afraid, paralyzed and unable to figure out what I wanted to do with my life. I just knew the things I was doing weren’t it. After a life-altering experience with the birth of our daughter, when I stopped breathing on the operating table of a routine c-section, I knew it was time to make a change. It had awakened in me a feeling like nothing I had experienced before and with my daughter’s birth, I was reborn. I was ready.”
It’s a common theme, that so many times in peoples lives its those earth shattering, scary moments that really wake you up and helps you look for a new future.
And that was the case with todays guest and as she says again “We only get one shot in this go-round. So I took the leap, I left my 10-year career and the safe nest of my alma mater and decided to launch my own business. Looking back, it was the greatest decision I could have ever made for my family and for my LIFE.”
So how did she know what direction she should be going in when she decided to take the leap of faith and go it alone?
And does she find the subject of branding to be something that is almost universally made more complicated than it actually should be?
Well lets find out, as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots, with the one and only Amber Lilyestrom.

It's with great delight that I welcome on todays show a lady who is the a author of a very cool book called, What Would a Wise Woman Do: Questions to Ask Along the Way.
But don't think for a moment that this is a show that will only apply to the ladies of the world, as this is all about living an amazing life, and working out the right questions to make this happen.
You see that is the subtle difference.
Most people go looking for the answers, but skip the most important part....the questions.
From the wisdom she learned at her mother’s side to the insight she gained baking pies with her Grandmother, our guest has developed an innate ability to ask the questions that propel business leaders and entrepreneurs to incredible achievements.
And this is where it gets really good.
It's not about working from a higher level of consciousness.
Or having the inside track that has cost thousands of dollars to get.
Instead our guest works from a simple philosophy – “Treat people better than they expect to be treated”, and it is from this belief that she was able to carve her niche and stand out in the highly competitive IT field, building Guardian Angel Computer Services from a sole employee business into a leading provider of Managed Technical Services.
And we can all do that can't we?
Teat people well, help people get everything they want in life, enjoy ourselves doing it and see the amazing life start forming around us!
But of course the million dollars question is why do people have a hard time buying into such a simple premise that leads towards success?
And of course having a wise woman on the show, what are the key questions that we should be asking ourselves on a daily basis to help us along the way?
Well let's find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots, with the one and only Laura Steward.

Todays guest started his first business when he was 15, and found himself like so many people broke, stressed and discouraged by the age of 22.
He had tried to be successful and he it didn't work, so he gave up and decided that a life of success wasn't for him.
Well, let me tell you that the truth was far from that statement.
In fact by the age of 23, just one year later he had turned that feeling of failure into the first shoots of success as he made his first 6 figure income.
3 1/2 years later his earnings were over 1 million, he had found the formula that worked for him, and so took the same formula and applied it in another industry.
Despite the challenge of lacking training or experience, he became the fastest manager to reach $1 million in annual sales in his company's 60 + year history, but left his
6 figure income because he felt his magnitude of mission growing.
He has since trained close to 5,000 entrepreneurs and sales professionals and is now labelled the leading authority for Entrepreneurs, and stars in his own tv show called "The Entrepreneur Grind" on the Whatever it takes network.
He has founded The Game Changers Academy, runs one of the top podcast on iTunes titled, "The Young Entrepreneur Lifestyle,” and is the author of the 27-Time International Best Seller “6 Months to 6 Figures.”
He strongly believes the more people you help to succeed, the more successful you become.
So what was it about the entrepreneurial lifestyle that so appealed to him at such an early age?
And does he see those first seven years as the catalyst to his future success or just a series of mistakes not to repeat?
Well lets find out as we bring onto the show and start joining up dots with the one and only Mr Peter Voogd.

Todays guest on Join Up Dots is a lovely lady, who was introduced to me by another lovely lady Joan Sotkin who appeared on episode 242.
She said to me "David you have to get my friend on the show, she has hustle, passion, and enthusiasm coming out of every pore"
And so that is what I have done, and she has a brilliant backstory that makes her perfect for a show like this, as in her own words she starts with
"Guess I’d say that I am the quintessential “Accidental Entrepreneur.”
I didn’t come to the party via business school or any well-crafted plan. Nope. I listened to Guidance and jumped in the middle of the deep end!
My first career came about with a Master’s Degree and 25 years of counseling experience. That actually gave me a fabulous foundation to understand the inner working of the mind, motivation, behavior, and those crazy unconscious parts that hold us back.
But it did NOTHING to prepare me to run a business or make a bunch of money! Not at all.
That has come through grit and grace! Being committed to do whatever it takes to learn and grow. Finding mentors who will shine lights on the places I can’t see. Being in focused action, and a fierce and firm decision to follow this path and never, ever give up on my dream."
And that my faithful listeners is a blueprint to success, and one that will be worth you grabbing a pen and paper and jotting down the nuggets of gold I just know we will deliver on this show.
So how did she find the courage to jump in at the deep end, when so many people are scared of even dipping the toes into the water?
And looking back on it, are there things that she would have differently that can make our transition from unhappy employees to life loving folk?
Well lets find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots with the one and only Therese Skelly.

Todays guest on Join Up Dots could have been taken straight from that classic movie "Dead Poets Society" as her mantra in life and her company name is "Seize This Day"
"Carpe Diem" is the way forward if you want to have a kick ass life, both personally and professionally.
And our guest has demonstrated that everyday as after a successful 20 years in sales and business development she took the experience that she has gained and took the leap of faith.
In early 2006, she launched her coaching practice where she helps individuals and small business to see the opportunities all around them, and bound over the obstacles that they may see as game stoppers.
She provides common sense approach to the sales process, and ultimately builds confidence into everyone that she meets
She is a public speaker, coach, radio host, author and go getter, and seems to me loves her life, and the value she is providing to the world.
So what was the point in her life when she knew that she had enough experience to leave the comfort of a steady salary, and go it alone.
And does she see more and more of the employees of the world getting itchy feet to go out and do there own thing, or is it still a case that people will cling to employment no matter how unhappy it is making them.
Well lets find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots with the one and only, Diane Helbig.

Todays guest is a man who I knew that I had to have him on Join Up Dots, when I see the quote "Life isn't searching for perfection — Life IS perfection in itself!" attributed to himself.
Its a really interesting point to make.
Is it about making life as a good as it can be, or is the action taking, faith, belief, whatever you call it that you use to get to that point, that is the real gift that we should savour?
Starting his working career in corporate land, he carved out a successful path for himself in Sales and Marketing and IT co-founding several companies that went onto be worth millions.
Life was good.
He was at the top of his game and literally had everything he could want.
But what happens when that success loses itse shine?
What happens when the life that you have worked so hard to create starts to look like you have created the wrong one?
Well our guest discovered that in order to live a fulfilled life he needed to pursue his soul’s purpose.
By taking charge of his destiny and following his dreams he finally found peace and felt complete.
And today he inspires individuals to live their essence and assists them in re-calibrating their lives, which he does though many different mediums.
So what was the moment when he knew that it was time to change direction, and how did he go about it?
And was he surrounded by people saying "Man, what are you doing?
You already have it all?"

Todays guest is one of the people that has set his stall out to look good feel good and help the world look good too.
I hope he doesn't mind me saying this but he is around seventy years old and has the most amazing body I have seen a man of his age having.
He knows what works for him to keep him at peak performance, and most importantly he knows what is the perfect fuel to put in himself to fire on all cylinders.
His purpose is to teach people how to be the healthiest person ON the planet and not the wealthiest person IN the grave, and does this by using nine easy steps that focus on nutrition, which are centered around his basic philosophy: “If you want to be tough, you’ve got to eat good stuff!”
He’s the founder of the Center for Nutrition & Life Management, Inc., based in Daytona Beach Florida, and is dubbed ‘The Mango Man’ because of his passion for eating fresh vegetables and seasonal fruits, like mangoes.
As he says, “We can learn to choose foods wisely so that nutrition can help the body build and repair itself more effectively.”
He’s convinced that we are all healthy automatically by design and sick only by default.
So living in the worlds centre of fast food, and processed sustenance, how does he manage to dodge the Burger Kings, and KFC's when they are all around him and live a life true to himself?
And are there quick ways that we can get to the core of what we should be eating, without going through a series of trials and errors?
Well lets find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots with the one and only Dr Wayne "The Mango Man" Pickering.

Not too many people can say life was nice and easy for them growing up.
But our guest on Join Up Dots will tell you his life wasn't extremely hard as a young adult, but it definitely wasn't easy either.
Surrounding himself with groups of friends that showed him that life was what you made it, he got involved with quick and easy money and a life of crime at a young age.
His desire to wear brand clothing sparked petty thievery such as popping lockers to steal valuables of fellow classmates to begin with, which gradually evolved to armed robberies.
It was when he ordered his affiliates to intrude a store for the second time that was under police surveillance that things came to a head and he was sentenced to serve 10 Years in Lee Arrendale State Prison for armed robbery.
Now the interesting thing about this tale was our guest wasn't a child who was uninterested, bored and didn't have an interest for schooling.
He loved being on the debate team, and like many children had a huge passion for playing basketball and shooting the hoops.
This is a tale of a young adult surrounding himself with the wrong people and making the wrong choices in life
Now he has risen from the ashes of his past mistakes and run's several businesses in the local Georgia community: FunTime Moonwalk Rentals, A&B Ice Cream Trucks, and Tender Care Home Healthcare Service.
He also published a book on his testimony- Shawty: Dainhen Butler and appeared on the well received documentary The Alto Adjustment", which is the harrowing but inspirational documentary of his life.
So what was life like in prison, and is it likely to inspire the prisoners to change direction, or harden them for a life of more crime?
And does he feel that he is a stronger person because of his history or just a different person because of it?
Well lets find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots with the one and only Dainhen Butler.

Todays guest joining us on the top rated Join Up Dots podcast, is a man who not only has an amazing demonstration of facial hair, but also has an amazing passion for life, adventure, grabbing success and enjoying himself.
He calls himself an adventurer, entrepreneur, solopreneur and a storyteller and is being truly authentic to what he was put on this earth to be.
But his life hasn't always been one that sounds like every boys dream.
Traveling through foreign lands.
Chatting with unusual strangers.
And living a life on his own terms.
In his own words he says "As a small child I wanted to be an explorer – to discover new, far away lands. But as I grew up, these dreams began to fade and were replaced with bank accounts, mortgages and dull conversations. Then a series of tragic events changed the course of my life. A few months later, I was riding across Mongolia in an ambulance. I had, in a small way, attained my childhood dream. From that inflection point, my life has been on a different path."
He poses the question that is perfect for a show like this that has a tagline like "Connecting our pasts to build our futures"
"What would it be like if, even for an instant, you could step into the shoes of your childhood dream? What if it is possible – and we’ve just convinced ourselves that it isn’t “feasible” as we’ve grown older?"
What would it be like indeed?
So what is it about humans that seem to need a series of tragic events to start looking closely for the true course of their lives?
And does he see the first part of his life as one of wasted opportunity, or just an apprenticeship for where he is now?
Well lets find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots, with the one and only Mr Chris Plough.

Todays guest on Join Up Dots is a lovely lady who has a wonderful mission in her life.
She wants to bring hope, passion and enthusuisam to those kids who feel that life is a place of darkness and where they have nothing in front of them but a certain and bleak future.
Through her first book Letters to God: Diary of an Unsilenced Generation, she raises awareness of the plight of hurting teens, the struggles they face, and how to promote hope in their young, often broken, lives.
And what makes this publication more powerful is that these are not all words that she has written herself, but Letters to God is a compilation of handwritten notes gathered at youth events around the nation.
These are true life tales of hurt and despair, which highlight the honest real life struggles that the youth of the world face.
But its not just the darkness that these book has brought to the world, as within every chapter our guest brings her experience of tackling these issues head on, with great insight which has been widely praised across America.
A resource for friends, parents, family and the sufferers themselves.
So what was it that made our guest focus her attention and passions on a problem which is so wide spread and difficult to tackle?
And does she feel that her movement is just the start of something that ultimately will be bigger than herself and the others that follow her.

When I started the show, I never considered that I would be having conversations on certain subjects, but todays episode is one of those that has arisen a few times.
It is something that most of us have spent time doing when we were young, but stop doing, because it seems uncool to do it as adults.
But todays guest has taken that logic and turned it on its head, as she is bringing skipping back into the adult world.
Yep, that type of skipping that you might have done as a kid.
Our guest created iSkip in the spring of 1999 when she became so inspired after skipping for the first time as an adult that she decided to invite the rest of the world to join her.
She began organizing regular group skipping events in San Francisco, and in January 2000 quit her corporate job to pursue her dream full time.
She poured her heart and soul into her vision, recruited head skippers in as many as 60 cities, and attempted to start a writing and speaking career.
Unfortunately, that didn’t go so well.
She ultimately skipped herself into financial ruin, and would spend the next several years going through what she calls the “post acute skipping hangover” phase of her journey. But as soon as she’d think her skipping path had come to an end, a newly inspired Skipper offering a unique contribution to the skipping world would skip onto the scene.
So what was it about skipping that wouldn’t let her go, even when she hit the dark point of perceived failure?
And does she see it more a boost for your mental happiness, or for your physical health.

Todays guest is Jo Na Williams, a lady who has been involved in the music industry since the age of five when she started belting out the tunes in musical ensembles around where she lived, and I guess grabbing hold of that hair brush in her bedroom like all small girls do.
And music seems to have always been the thing that lights her up inside, and was always going to be a key thing to her career.
And why not when her Mother was in the music industry, and worked in Detroit during the halcion days of Motown.
So being surrounded by such creative folk showing their passions and talent everyday was likely to start her vision for joining them and becoming a star too.
So she started pursuing a career as a vocalist professionally, and at the age of 17 began singing backing vocals in studios, and supporting local bands and life looked like it was only going to be heading one way.
She felt like she was on her way to being a star.
As she says “I happily stayed late nights in the studio, wrote lyrics and recorded vocals waiting for my moment to be discovered. It never happened. I was never credited or compensated and that was when I realized, I’d been exploited.”
And its moments like that when you feel that the world is against you, that really shows you the way that your future will be and should be.
It’s the dark dots on the Join Up Dots timeline that become the stepping stones to where you need to be.
This is where the greatest startup stories begin, when you have no other choice than to move forward with conviction.
She is now an attorney/brand and business development expert for musicians and artists.
Through her company, Artist Empowerment Group, she will do everything she can to empower you to build an authentic, unstoppable brand, a movement of raving fans and the components of being a successful entrepreneur so you can finally live your dream on YOUR terms.
She cares about musicians and artists deeply as hey, shes been there and done it and experience combined with heart makes one powerful proposition.
So what was it about the music industry that was so intoxicating for her as a young lady?
And does she see it now as the best form of apprenticeship to where she is today?
Well lets find out as we bring onto the show to start joining upd ots with the one and only Jo-Na Williams

Todays guest on Join Up Dots is a lovely lady who from her core, believes that we can all have a lovely life.
She loves nothing more than teaching the world the tools to find our life bliss.
Yes, come on listeners if you have only got one thing from listening to Join Up Dots everyday then it should be this.
If you are slogging your way through life, feeling exhausted, and wondering why life is so hard, then you are travelling along the wrong path.
You need to work out why you can't get out of bed each day, with a "Yay, its a new day" shout.
She is just about to bring to the world a new project called "14 Day Radical Self Love Challenge" and has also just launched her Uplift Membership Group.
But this isn't a story of someone who is a naturally bouncy person, and was always on an inspirational helping others kind of gig.
As she has gone from a severely anxious and depressed woman for most of her 35 years to an empowered, inspiring woman doing amazing things, conquering her fears and teaching others how to do the same!
So what was it in her past that led to her feeling so anxious about the future, and what she was doing in her life?
And are there simple steps that the listeners can take forward
